A friend has a modified import PS2, the game is already for sale. SO i bought it even though who knows when I will get my PS2. Anyway, the game is simply amazing, in graphics and play.
From what I've seen most of the new PS2 games' graphics don't look much better than dreamcast but Smuggler's Run does. Cool game modes even though I don't have them all mastered yet. THe police are vicious!!
Cool game, can't wait to get my PS2.
Great concept, but a bit bland and shallow.

It's a truly great concept for a game: Take a dune buggy or SUV, and drive frantically around the backwaters of the American southwest, hauling briefcases full of cargo from place to place, frantically trying to stay just ahead of the law. (Suuuuure, Rockstar, you can tell us that those briefcases have 'secrets' or 'engine parts'. Suuuuure.) If you've ever played Crazy Taxi, think of Smuggler's Run as "what the Crazy Taxi drivers do to make the _real_ money."
The trouble is, it just doesn't wind up being as _fun_ as Crazy Taxi. In Crazy Taxi, there are always a multitude of options in front of you; passengers line the streets everywhere, taking you to all sorts of destinations. In Smuggler's Run, you're led through a series of linear missions--pick up each briefcase _here_ and drop it off _there_. You're driving through broad expanses of terrain, but you don't really have time to explore them; you're just racing from Point A to Point B trying to beat the time limits. And the countryside you're racing through is somewhat bland; most of the textures lack the sort of detail you'd expect from a PS2 game.
Don't get me wrong; there's quite a lot of fun to be had here. Running from the law is always fun (in a game, anyway, where you can just hit a button to restart after you get arrested). And in the later missions, the constant pressure of the pursuing police cars will force you into all kinds of wild maneuvers and wrecks. (But even in these levels, the intensity just doesn't match that of racing down a crowded street in Crazy Taxi.) The occasional team mission (where you and a few CPU-controlled allies compete against a group of enemy cars) add at least some variety to the mix.
To summarize, Smuggler's Run makes a very solid first impression, but I have serious doubts about its long-term replay value (especially given the relatively small number of missions). It's certainly worth a look; but if you have a Dreamcast as well, Crazy Taxi is a much more entertaining trip through the same genre.

This game is a great game! It is full of exciting tracks that seem to go on for ever and insane graphics that make this game very realistic but at the same time a great virtual game. If you are looking for a game that has you on the run from the law or just plain offroading it than this is the game for you. Trust me this game will blow your mind. For all of you who are thinking of buying PS 2 get this game for it and you will not be dissapointed.

For those who love the Driver series for PSone, they will definitely love Smugglers Run. The game provides great graphics and in many cases you can get the game for .... There are many different missions in which you are given, and the game can keep you entertained for hours as you try to pass every test that is put in front of you. As a new PS2 owner, it helps me get even more excited about the system when I know that there are quality games out there to attain, and this is definitely one of them. Don't let this game pass you by. Smugglers Run is a winner!!

I rented this game and it toke me a whole weekend to get to misson 32, and let me tell you once you get around misson 18 and up they get 110% harder. The cops increase in number as your deadline time decreases. Once you get to the desert missions your not only chased by boarder patrol officers but Army and CIA also, and they will do anything to stop you from completing your mission. There are pretty much 3 different types of missions pick up and drop off the goods, checkpoint races(very hard), and team battles(you have up to 3 buddys to help you).
The joyriding is cool but gets boring fast. This is a great game to rent but just isn't worth the 50 bucks it costs to buy.

Smugglers Run is a very fun game. It includes three vass terains (Winter, Forest, and Desert). This Game has countless hour of gameplay in it. You can even hit Deer, Wolves, Bears,Cats, People, Boarder Patrol, Hikers. The reason that I didn't give this Game A 5, is that it doesn't unlock the full potential of the Playstation 2. If you want to see the full potential of your PS2 then buy either Maden 2001, or SSX both have ungodly great Grafix. Overall this is a great game and should be a part of everyones collection.
Least favorite of the four I own.

This game definitely gets boring after a while. Yes, the graphics are pretty good, but a game has to be good all around in order to be enjoyable, and this game just doesn't have it. It would have been a little better if the other vehicles didn't always come from exactly the same places and at the same times each time you start a level over, because it gets to be pretty predictable. Another thing that you get kind of sick of when playing this game is the fact that the woman who's talking you through your mission always says the exact same things, again at the same times. You'd think they could have recorded more sound bytes for her and programmed them to play randomly. I think the makers of this game tried to make her sound like she's from the ghetto, but it sounds more like she's a librarian or something. Lastly, the commands that the customs officers yell at you from their vehicles are really dumb, like, "You are driving extremely dangerously. Stop your car now."
In a nutshell, I own four games for the PS2, and I play Smuggler's Run the least, by far. The premise for the game is really good, but Rockstar totally failed to make it a cool game.

This game is just like crazy taxi except you don't have to stop to pick anybody up. The arrow is the same, you just have to drive and pick things up and drop them off. No stopping, find the triangle of lights and drive through it. One problem, you got cops to worry about, they can ram you like there is no tomorrow. You can run over deer, run into RV's and watch the driver fly through the window, and many more. It's fun and challenging.
This game is always fun to play.

The games graphics are truly amazing! There are no glitches in it what so ever. The game has non stop action, and you don't stop for nothing. :-) You can drive as far as the eye can see, and when I say that, I mean it. If you look way off in the distance and see a hill, you are able to drive up it! Theres miles of terrain to drive on. The enviorments are: Dessert, Forest, and Winter Theres all kinds of vehicles too like SUV's to Dune Buggy's. If you want ONE driving game, this is it. I'd also would strongly recomend Midnight Club Street Racing for the Playstation2.
Can't beat this game!

I rented a PS2 from blockbuster and chose this game along with DOA2 and this game blew me away! The realism in the graphics is incredible and the angles of the graphics are great! The polygons of the terrain are almost perfectly aligned so you really do drive on the ground!
The game features multiplayer missions and a large single-player campaign and - best of all - a no-time-limit freeride to roam the three huge maps. For the three weeks that I had this game I never once got stuck or frozen to a hex polygon because the maps are *really* well written.
Great product, great fun!
