This game rocks. it has good graphics and it is very scarry. It is a must buy for only twenty dollars. So go buy this game if you don't have it.

An interesting change to classic survival horror.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X is the best version of RE to date. In creating this game, Capcom kept the original formula of RE and threw in a couple twists. Instead of using still shots for every location, the entire game is now rendered in polygons. This allows the camera to follow the action, similar to Dino Crisis (Capcom), and eliminating most of the dubbed "Bad Camera Angles". This also allows players to catch explore more of the area. The down side to this camera in motion approach is that you often times will miss the shimmering object clues programmers give to allow you to find important items. This can cause for some added frustration, but once you adapt to this new view, I am confident you will prefer it.

The play mechanics remain for the most part unchanged from the previous installments of the series. Up still walks forward, down still back steps, any avid video gamer should be familiar with this control scheme. The ability to spin 180 degrees to face an onslaught from the rear has been changed from a simple button press, to tapping back and the run button. This alteration can be cumbersome to use at first, but you soon become accustomed to its uses. Another welcome change is the multi-targeting ability on some weapons. For example, when Claire has the twin machine guns, she can target multiple enemies. This is great for pacifying crowds. My favorite adjustment to play was increased usefulness of the knife. Previously, the knife was used for little more than a last ditch effort, but in RECVX, it becomes a primary choice of weapons for zombies. Precise swipes with the knife can inflict serious damage as well as decapitate zombies.

The story is somewhat of a wild goose chase. In the beginning, Claire Redfield (featured in RE2) is trying to locate her brother Chris Redfield (featured in the first RE). Claire is captured by Umbrella Corp. They lock her in a prison on a remote island. The problem is, a helicopter crashes, releasing the T-Virus infected monsters. Claire now has to fight her way off the island. Meanwhile, Chris is in Europe, acting as a member of STARS (STARS is like the SWAT, only better). When Chris finds out that Claire is trapped on the island, he rushes to the rescue. Meanwhile, Steve (a new character to the series) helps Claire escape the island. As the game progresses, Claire keeps going where Chris was, then Chris is right on Claire's heels. It is just a wild goose chase. The difference between this and the original Dreamcast incarnation is the addition of a 10 minute FMV telling about Albert Wesker's (introduced in RE) escape from the Raccoon City Mansion. The video does not add to the overall story, but is a fringe benefit for owning the PS2 version of RECVX.

The graphical aspects of RECVX for PS2 seemed like a downgrade from the Dreamcast version. Though most of the game holds a dimly lit, eerie feel, in well lit areas, the PS2's anti-aliasing limitations become more apparent. This gives a grainier look to the nicely polished exterior. Enemies have not changed a bit in diversification. If it is a male zombie, it will have a consistent look throughout the game. Hunters look extraordinary this time around. The attention to detail on their lizard like skin is exceptional compared to previous RE titles.

I wasn't too impressed with the sound effects and background music. The SFX seem to be touched up versions of the previous games, sounding dated against the PS2's power. Capcom's choice of BGM doesn't really add to the feel of the game either. Instead, I usually turn the music off. There's more visual suspense than audio in RECVX. Even the zombies have one cry. It is the same groan used since RE1. I hope for their sake, they put more diversity into the enemies.

Overall, I did enjoy this game. It is not the graphics or sound that appeal, but the story and feel presented. I rated this game an 8 on the Game Rankings scale. I found RECVX to be amusing, but it falls into the same frustration loop that other games do if you don't have a guide. Either way, this is a good game to own for your PS2. If you don't have a PS2, I recommend owning the original for Dreamcast.

This game was truly terrifying when i first picked it up. But unfortunatly, like all resident evils, the fright didnt last due to
1)bad lighting effects
2)Corny looking zombies at close range
3)inability to work the items or to find the right one
I mean come on. You have have found broze emblem, so what? You have found Strange alloy, and? it took me forever to put it all together. and the worst part is, im still havent beaten this sad little game. (sigh) dont waste ur money on this.

This is a great overall game. Great cutscenes, voice acting, sound is right on, gameplay is good, but not as good as the new silent hill 3 because in RE, you can't walk sideways. The story is awsome and puts you in a new place half way into the game. This camera is screwed up just as in all survival horror games. Superb graphics for it's time and takes about nine hours and thats good for $20. BUY IT!& YOU'LL LOVE IT!

I have been a fan of resident evil games for quite some time, so when I purchased my play station this is one of the first games I bought. The graphics and voice-overs dont bother me, what bothers me is the you are constantly running out of ammo, health and patience. This is the 3rd time that I have had to restart the game over to see if I could save more ammo to kill that monsters in the airplane which by the way is practically invincible. This game is extremely difficult and limited amo and health does not help matters. My recomendation is to rent the game first and don't expect it to be like the other resident evil games.

Capcom's Greatest

I have played all of the resident evil series to date. Well not all, but most. I have played, Directors Cut, Remake of 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica X for PS2 (well duh) and 0. So Im pretty sure I know what I am talking about. If you are a true resident evil fan this will be sure to fufill your zombie shooting, puzzle solving needs. And even if youre not used to the Resident Evil hype, this is a great starter. First off I would like to mention that most of the bad reviews are for the Dreamcast version. I have seen pictures of the Dreamcast version and I must admit the graphics arent nearly as good as they are on PS2...they really arent, so some of you who have only played it on DC, give it a try on PS2, you'll be surprised of the big difference. The storyline is absoultly GREAT. I loved it..I wont say anything about the ending but it brought me to tears.(heh, maybe Im just emotional...but anyways) It has a great love story tied into it if youre into that sort of thing as well. Unlike zero which made me sort of dissapointed, games just arent good without a great love story twisted in right?! Well...anyways. The graphics on the PS2 version are not bad in the least, especially considering when the PS2 version was released. I can tell you when I first played the game it scared the pants off of me. And I loved it so much I played it oh...about (really) 18 times more since then. As I said before, the storyline is just awsome, and I cant stress that enough. I think it has the best storyline in the whole series. It really surprised me. It starts off with Claire Redfield, once again in search for her brother, Chris. On her way she meets Steve Burnside, an optomistic fellow with a heart of gold. The enemy in this game is also a new twist. Alexia and Alfred Ashford are just downright creepy. Alfred is a crossdressing weirdo with obsession of his dear sister Alexia. And Alexis is just...wow...creepy. Not to mention Capcom decided to bring Wesker back into the storyline in Code Veronica, and I can add that Weskers scenes are just plain cool. Wesker is also in search of Chris Redfield to plot his revenge. Speaking of Chris, did I mention you also get to play as him? Thats right, Chris Redfield is back with a vengence! Booyah! New monsters are also introduced and native to the game. Although I wont mention any for surprises must be awaited when you (hopefully) purchase your copy of the game. The graphics are nothing compared to Gamecube Resident evil's, but put the playstation 1 and DC versions of Resident Evil to shame. So I wouldnt worry to much about the graphics unless you consider buying the dreamcast version. Anyhoo. My final words on the game are...If youre a hardcore fan or a n00b to the series, Resident Evil Code Veronica X is just great. It is by far my favorite in the series, if not my favorite game of all time!

Sincerly,
Rosalyn Clark

But instead i bought it, i some how had to have this game , yes it's an old game and the story is little tired but some of the puzzles made me actually think duuuuhhhh,i love challanges even if doged silent hill, i will say this !!!!!!!! i found balance in this game , as for the bosses i like the fact that you had to run from some or simply throw some off a plane ect...........
resident evil has limited movement so the battles are lacking in that respect, it would have been torture to run around and kill all the bosses, so it was creative to change that aspect of the game , the camera angles can fustrate you at times but!! we have grow to accept these set backs a trade mark from capcom all in all this game is not so bad, actually it's easy it took me 7 hours to complete..............
or i get all my game late i am not as fortunate an USA gamer it cost me $500.00tt for a game where i live......... so when i buy!!! it must worth it!!!!! so people your reviews means a lot to me laterzzzzzzz.......................

Despite being an almost identical port of the DC version, RE:CV is still undoubtedly the must have game for PS2, and the best RE game ever. But be careful, although the game includes extra scenes throughout the game, the extra DVD Weskers Report is only available if you pre-order the game from Capcom or any authorized dealer. So if you wait to get it after it is released you won't get the DVD.

As for the game itself, it's all been said before. But to for a quick summary, it's GREAT!

Keep Improving Please

A good story line and beautiful computer generated sequences can go a long way to making a game a winner, but horrible controls and bad camera angles can also go a long way towards making it a loser. Resident Evil Code: Veronica X balances out somewhere in the middle, and Capcom needs to cleanup the problems before it continues to go on to make another one in this series. There's not much new from the previous games besides a storyline.

On its good notes, the game does have a strong storyline with impressive cut scenes. It does a superb job of creating a creepy environment for you to play in. I usually play games late at night in the dark, but I honestly had to keep the lights on while playing this one to help tone down the spookiness of it. Entering rooms and hearing the moan of zombies that can't be scene ate away at my sanity.

Unfortunately, this is one of the few games I didn't play through to the end. I rented it for a week, and have no intent to buy it or rent it again. The action was very slow paced throughout the game, and needed to be because of the horrible controls. Up walks forward and right and left turn. That's fine if the camera is behind your character, but when the camera angle switches you need to do some quick mental gymnastics to figure out which way left or right is.

Shooting zombies is fun, but there's no intelligent or tricky combat. You'd have to rotate all the way around (there's a hotkey for it), push forward and pray there are no obstacles or camera angle switches. The controls are just too hard to handle when attempting to do anything fast paced. The static camera angles are very bad. The moan of zombies lets you know they're in the room, but you often cannot see them because of the poorly positioned camera. You either have to fire at off-screen enemies or wander closer hoping the camera will switch.

Don't forget to respect the glass. While guns can make zombies meet their end, they can't break windows or mirrors. You have a limited number of bullets and should guard them carefully. This is especially annoying with rooms where enemies will magically come back to unlife when you walk out and back in because you have to waste more bullets re-killing them.

If you're a fan of the series or enjoy slower paced games with strong stories and good graphics this game is for you. If you're an action junky, this game doesn't deliver and you should take a look at Onimusha or Devil May Cry.

The Resident Evil genre is in full swing here!!

Not much has changed as far as the controls go here, but there is new turns in game sequences that Dreamcast players didn't experience when it was orginally released for them. If you like horror, and being scared out of your wits - try playing this with the lights off and get a new respect for fear.
