Okay, so this game is kind of a "cult classic", but I am one of the vast numbers of gamers who can't resist the Matrix-like special effects. It just adds a really sweet touch to an otherwise "been there, done that" kind of game. However, it isn't without it's flaws: even with auto-aim functions enabled, our hero just can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn. That is pretty true-to-life, so I'm not complaining, but the enemies seem to be able to hit you without much of a problem.
That doesn't make the difficulty on this game unbearable, though. Rather, it's kind of one of those discs you want to plug in when you want to let off some steam. After all, doesn't mowing down a bunch of thugs out for your blood make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? (Of course, I would never condone that kind of behavior in real life. That's what these video games are for!) Summing up- this one's definitely not for the kiddies.

This is one of the best shooters there are. It has a awsome story line. The graphics are good but not the best. Actually max's hand is always in the position if he was holding a gun even when he isn't. The weapons are awsome. It is hard to choose whitch weapon i would like to use next. There are two flaws in the game. One is that the game has no multiplayer. The other is the game isn't that long but is very fun. I have beaten this game 3 times and i'm still enjoying it. The blood and gore is also very realistic. I like that for shooters because it makes the game more realistic and fun. The Matrix mode in the game is probably one of the bigest reasons why i like it. You can dive in mid air while in slow mode in any direction and waste the enemy. I recomend buying this game even though the story is short and there is no multiplayer it is still a great game.
Bullet-time? Yes Plaese!

This game is just the game you need if you like the Matrix.
Max Payne is an under-cover cop but turns into a part-time killer when his wife and child get killed by a New York mafia.
Max Payne gets lead into a drug opperation and encounters some pretty nasty people along the road of revenge. Uzis, pistols, machine-guns, nail-guns, snipers and alot more are the weapons that can be found.
Dodging in MP comes in handy with the bullet-time feature of the game.
The game may be short but the game play is excellent and I really reccomend this game.
The only let-down of the gamne is the comicy (is that a word? It is now!!) cut-scenes.
NOW GET THAT GAME!!!

Rockstar, best known for the hit game Grand Theft Auto 3, makes a lot of violent games. Max Payne is more of the same type of stuff...crooked cops, sawed-off shotguns, solid graphics, huge levels, etc. Overall the game is pretty good, but there are some faults that should have been corrected.
The voice acting is absolutely horrible--talk about scary...how did this ever make it into the final version of the game? Kinda wrecks the whole thing if you ask me. The action is good, lots of blood, but next time leave out the slow-mo.

When i bought his game, i thought that it would be kind of good. The whole bullet time mode hooked the [$$$] from me. ITS BETTER THAN EVER DISPLAYED OR ADVERTISED! You just havta play it to believe the awesomness that sorrounds shooting up mobsters in slow mo with 25 pounds of lead flying everywhere! The plot is, well, it can be defined as a plot. 3 years ago, a group of junkies murder your wife and child (VERY DISTURBING!!!!) on a high with a previously unknown Valkyr. Well, now you on a revenge course. Max goes undercover with the DEA and starts a rampage. Now, your best friend and boss is murdered in cold blood by the deadly drug's dealers. Max has nothing to lose, and goes berserk. TIME FOR A ...KICKING!!!

Let me start by saying that I rented this title rather than paying [the money] to buy it and I believe I made the right choice. Max payne is a very frustrating game that gives gamers a headache. Average graphics, average gameplay and horrible control. Game play becomes a very challenging task since one analog stick is for moving and the other is for aiming. Put it this way, for the hours that I spent playing this title I could never grasp the controls perfectly. Overall I recommend renting first to see if you like it.

Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold, and snowy New York night. Max was a undercover cop for the NYPD, but now he has been framed for murder. He's a fugitive hunted by the mob and the police. And is fighting a battle he can't hope to win but you do.
Max Payne is from the same people that brought us Grand Theft Auto III and the quality that was apparent in that game is here as well. The game only has one mode, story mode. The story is outstanding and has more plot twists than any other video game I have ever played.
In Max Payne, you fight through several mob families to find out why his wife and baby girl were murdered and how to show the NYPD that he is innocent. Max goes to the very bottom of the barrel of crime and you have to lead him through it all. The bullet-time gameplay feature is very fun to do and makes the game look like the Sci-Fi movie "The Matrix".
By the time you get to the second level of the game, you realize that Max Payne is an action/shooting game that is, in many ways supperior ro other action games. It is very hard but at the same time very fun. Its like a John Woo thriller, straight of Hong Kong, only you get to play it. Max Payne is a great video game experience whether you buy it on Playstaion 2, X box, or PC. So order it and prepare for pain.......
super cool
