Why buy this on the PS2. It looks horrible on the PS2. It looks so much better on the PC or wait for it to come out on the XBOX. The game itself rules and deserves game of the year honors, but whatever you do don't buy on the POS2.
This game is awesome

This game will be awesome. If you've seen The Matrix this game has graphic just like that. I can't wait till ps2 Max Payne comes out. Its will for sure be quicker than computers and the control pad is better than a mouse and a keyboard. All I know is this game is sweet and it on many sites this game has topped HalfLife and other sweet game for anyone who likes this game I would consider Silent Hill 2 and Spy Hunter...
Best shooter ever, but for Ps2?

I have the Ps2 and love it, graphics are great and games are fun. Max Payne, however, is the greates shooter ever and is amazing in every way. The graphics require more than the Ps2 so they will have to downsize the graphics. I wouldn't buy it for the Xbox either. The graphics are a little bit better but not much. Ps2 and Xbox wouldn't be worth the money. Buy it for PC, then you can fully enjoy it!
Maximum FUN!

While the game is definetly violent and raunchy, the gameplay is awesome and addictive. Picture Tomb Raider with more action, tons of enemys and incredible graphics. Combine that with the "bullet time" mode which slows down time and gives Max incredible reflexs and is also extremely pleasing to the eye, and you've got a great game. The control, a combination of mouse and keyboard, is awkward at first, but becomes second nature after the first half hour. I also suggest taking the auto aim feature off so you will have to actually aim to hit an enemy. The bullet time mode is so much fun and adds so much to the game, it makes you feel like you are in the matrix. However, like the matrix, the story is a little lacking. While it is interesting and intelligent at first, it gets predictable after a while. But again like the matrix, the action is so incredible, it doesn't matter so much if the story doesn't hold up after seeing it 5 times. This game is definetly worth buying but be warned; you WILL become addicted. It's nearly impossible not to.

My opinion is that this is the best video game of 2001! Max Payne combines incredible graphics as well as a superb plot. Plus the fantastic reality and the first ever "Bullet Time". In which you can actually see the bullets as they are leaving your weapon. It also has great sound effects and music. Overall I beleive Max Payne should be rated the Best game of the year!

I have played many video games in my lifetime and this has got to be one of the WORST! The only thing I liked about this game is the "Bullet Time", but once you do it 3 times it gets old. The graphics are terrible, everyone's head are boxy. It reminds me of the Blockheads from The Gumby Show. The "cut scenes" are stupid. Its like reading a comc book. It shows what they say above their heads, and has still pictures. The controlls are even worst than the graphics. You have to use both the left and right analog stick to control the character. I bought this game and took it back the same afternoon for a full refund. Other people here have written good comments about this game, but I think this not a good buy at all. If you want some action with nice weapons...play Devil May Cry.

This game was horrible. I bought it after hearing good things about it but it is the worst game for PS2. The only ok thing about this game is the bullet time which is not all that great. I bought this game and immediatly took it back. The graphics are the worst. I haven't seen a game on PS2 with worse graphics. If you want a game like Max Payne wait for Dead to Rights which will really be cool.
only one flaw in this gem

Max Payne had to truly be the best single-player first person shooter game I have ever played since Half-Life. The game engine cranks out some serious frames per second on my mid range system (p3-500, geforce2 gts, 256meg o ram, 19" monitor) and that is high performance with a lot of the eye candy turned on running at 1280x1024 rez.
The story is easy to get into though a little kitsch and reminiscent of The Punisher story from Marvel Comics. The game has an interesting way of doing cutscenes. they are in the form of a graphic novel form with Max narrating. This is just a little touch which gets you into the game. The absolute best feature of this game has to be BULLET TIME. Whereby you can leap into a room and slow things down Matrix-style and hear your heart thump and bullets fly and you leave the room the only one standing. Whew!
THIS IS ONE GREAT GAME
and on a down note, I would have rated the game a 10, or 5 stars if only it had a multiplayer option. :( Never fear, there are single player mods coming out which will further enhance the replayability factor of the game.
