This game is HORRIBLE!!!

I have played many video games in my lifetime and this has got to be one of the WORST! The only thing I liked about this game is the "Bullet Time", but once you do it 3 times it gets old. The graphics are terrible, everyone's head are boxy. It reminds me of the Blockheads from The Gumby Show. The "cut scenes" are stupid. Its like reading a comc book. It shows what they say above their heads, and has still pictures. The controlls are even worst than the graphics. You have to use both the left and right analog stick to control the character. I bought this game and took it back the same afternoon for a full refund. Other people here have written good comments about this game, but I think this not a good buy at all. If you want some action with nice weapons...play Devil May Cry.

This game had so much potential to be great. The whole "bullet-time" idea is really cool, but when used in the game it gets very tedious and annoying. When I rented May Payne I expected the Matrix in video game form. Thats not what you get. The story is decent but the style in which its told is extremely poor: its like a comic book. I just couldnt take it. Also the controls are terrible. To move you need to use the two control sticks on the Dual Shock. One is used for Max's movement while the other is used to look around. The combination of the two resulted in some not so good controls. The control pad should have been used to move Max: it would have made the game much more enjoyable. In addition Max is way to vunerable. One shot could finish him off. Some agrue that this makes the game more realistic. Realism is something I'm not expecting in a game where you can slow down time. Lastly the game requires no aiming at times. I found that I was just shooting and hitting an enemy. It takes no skill. So, all in all, stay away from this game. Especially if you've played GTA3 or Metal Gear Solid 2 which blow Max Payne away.

Why did they make it for the PS2?

Why buy this on the PS2. It looks horrible on the PS2. It looks so much better on the PC or wait for it to come out on the XBOX. The game itself rules and deserves game of the year honors, but whatever you do don't buy on the POS2.

A LAME GAME

First and foremost, I'd like to say that the script for this game is terrible! As I watched every cutscene and listened to Max Payne's poetic description of his encounters, I wanted to stab myself in the ears! The writers of this game went a little overboard.

The game starts off great. I especially liked the slow motion option, which allows you to take out several enemies at a time without receiving too much damage. The weapons and their sound effects are great as well. And it basically stops there!

The storyline is ridiculous and confusing. Max's wife and baby are murdered in cold blood, so "he's got nothing to lose". We start off by hunting down an Italian mob leader who may be responsible for the murders. Turns out he worships the devil? Somewhere down the line, the blame is put on some woman who is president of a corporation that is secretly developing drugs.

By the fourth chapter of the game, I realized that I was playing one of the worst games ever created by man! I immediately ejected the DVD from my PS2 and threw it back into its case. I ended up selling it on ebay! HEED MY WARNINGS, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME!

Great Visuals, Distracting and Irritating Play Control

This game is gorgeous, and the perspective is unique and fantastic. Unfortunately, some controls do not translate as well from computer mouse (or gamepad) to PS2 as they could.

I had such high hopes for this game, but I am just not able to use both analog joysticks, the L1/2 and R1/2 buttons, and the button pad at the same time. Call me uncoordinated (despite the fact that I have been playing video games since before there were home video game systems!), but I don't want to give myself carpal tunnel syndrome from playing a game!

I would also like to state that "bullet-time" was a neat style of visual effect in the Matrix. It is not something I want to see in shooting games in the future, as it just adds a level of implausibility to an otherwise realistic game.

Do not buy this game!

This game was horrible. I bought it after hearing good things about it but it is the worst game for PS2. The only ok thing about this game is the bullet time which is not all that great. I bought this game and immediatly took it back. The graphics are the worst. I haven't seen a game on PS2 with worse graphics. If you want a game like Max Payne wait for Dead to Rights which will really be cool.

I DON'T SEE HOW ANY1 COULD GET ANY ENJOYMENT WITH THIS GAME. I MEEN SURE THE GAME IS OK BUT REALLY THEIR R FRIGIN COMIC STRIPS EVERY 5 SECONDS. PEOPLE'S HEADS FLY THROUGH THE WALL AND WAT THE HELL'S WITH THE MATRIX STUFF. ALMOST EVERYTIME U KILL SOME1 IT GOES TO A LITTLE SCENE WEN THEY DIE ALL DRAMATIC. IN MY OPINON THIS ISN'T WORTH ANYTHING.[...].

this game isnt that good because all the controls are messed up you have to use the joy sticks and it gets real boring after a while so whoever doesnt have it dont get it get something like grandtheftauto 3 or state of emergency when it comes out

this game is really bad I mean everything about it. they took so long to make this and for what.its just a waste off time and your money I gave it 1star because the guns are the best thing about this crap game
