best of the series - maybe

I will always hold TR1 a special place in my heart as it engrossed me more than any game ever had. TR4, the last revelation, however, has everything the first one had and more, the only reason I still can't bring myself to say it is the best is because of the fact that since the first one, I will never be as amazed as I was that very first tomb raider night in 1997 with my roommate, saying more than once, "What the ... was that..." as we heard a lioness growl, or, "Come quick, you'll never believe what we missed!"

Great [game!!!]

This is a 5 star game if you have the walk-through directions. Without the directions this is a 1 star game. The puzzles would be impossible without instruction and you probably wouldn't make it past the fourth or fifth level. The game is very long, took me almost 30 hours to finish it! Some of the middle levels seem a little repetative, but you can't say you don't get your money's worth. Graphics are really cool for a PS1 game.

The best one in the series!

This is definitley something worth spending your money on! All of the other games (except Tomb Raider 2) make the series look very bad. The first one seems pretty lousy, the third one is quite stupid and impossible to beat, and Angel of Darkness stinks beyond belief! The second one is fairly good, but The Last Revelation is really great! I recieved this game for my birthday and loved it right away. You reallly have to think about the possiblities of what to do and the puzzles are pretty brain bending. I would not recomend this game to kids under 9 years old. This is because there are mummies and skeletons in several boards. (Which is actually pretty fun once you learn the secret to killing them. Bwa ha ha ha!) If you're looking for a good game to spend your money on buy this game!

While I'm typing away I may as well tell everyone the big secret on how to kill any type of the living dead. What you do is use the all weapons cheat by hanging on a ledge, facing north and on a small medical pack hold down L1, L2, R1, R2 and the up on the D-pad at the same time, let go and then press triangle to exit out of the inventory screen. Then go back in and equip a crossbow with explosive ammo. Now the fun begins! Just shoot a mummy or a skeleton with one arrow and watch them expode. You can watch their heads roll across the screen and various other body parts. Also, you should know that if the mummy is just lying on the floor (some do and usually after you push a lever or take an artifact they come alive) or a skeleton you can fire anyhow at them and they'll still be history. I especially liked this game because the name tomb raider actually makes sense. In the other ones you just travel across the globe and usually in the final battle you vist a tomb, kill the huge bad guy and then swipe your artifact. But overall you never step foot in a tomb.

Buy it NOW!

I just bought this game yesterday, stayed up very late playing (which was a sometimes very scary experience) and have been playing it almost all day today (i love christmas vacation). It is definitely the best of the Tomb Raiders. The detail on the levels are amazing, and the FMVs are cool too.

All the TR`s are good games

I own all of the Tombraider releases. Because they`re great. Some people say that they are sick of the searching through the same tombs and pushing, pulling, jumping and climbing. Well what do you want to do, Nothing? And what do you expect, she`s a tombraider. I love this game because you can enjoy it for hours, it`s impossible to finish it in an hour or two like most games. If you are a Tombraider fan you`ll like this game. And if you`re not, you should be.

I have played all the games and I agree TR III was not all that great but Last Rev. left a bit to be desired even though overall it was good. It seemed things were changed just for the heck of it like key commands you needed another finger for. I seemed to forget what I was looking for and that didnt happen with the others. Also maybe its just my eyes but the prizes were too hard to see which proved to be disasterous in spots, and I didnt like shooting vases and nothing in them. That seemed senseless. I did enjoy the art work and the overall game, story line and puzzles (even though stating there would be no movable block cost me dearly) and think Tombraider is still the best game for a mild amount of violence and a maximum of adventure. Heck you cant have everything! I hope this wont be the last, but next time they might pay more attention to what made the game great in the beginning. Simplicity, ease of controls and certainly not that straight line weapons and combine thing. Yuk! Also what's with that ending?

This game can be a great title to have around at times. This game can be straight out boring sometimes. Here are its strengths: Great sound, graphics, movies, occasional fun gameplay, and enemies.Weaknesses: Sometimes it can be just to frustrating and there are bugs from minor silly ones, to ones that delete your save file.Pros:Get ready for a challenge like no other and have blasting away at those pesky little enemies thinkin' they're all that and more.Cons:A tad bit annoying, making you just want to use it for your dog's frisbee...believe me...I know.

This is certainly not the last! LARA RULES!

Okay, people often mistaken this little number as an addition to the previous titles but what they lack to consider and utterly know is that this part of the series is actually a prequel. I played all the series and have found that this feminine-Indiana Jones, gun-toting action/puzzle solving equation is the coolest formula I have ever seen hit the gaming scene. I agree that sometimes these games can be rather long but I believe Eidos was searching to open a door for those new gamers to get acquainted with the Lara of the first installment. I really feel that the only game that really sticks out of the whole series is Tomb Raider 3, and yet it is extra cool when you can play through all four titles and see the progression of the technological advances it has gone through. All in all... I live to earn ALL TITLES... LARA CROFT RULES!!

The same old boring jump-push-pull-find game. Great fun, but the action isn't that exciting. There are too many trap possibilities, where starting over is the only option. The jeep and motorcycle sections are cool, and the shooting is great fun, as well as the cinematic sequences. But all in all it's mostly hours of running and jumping and climbing in very similar looking tombs.

Tomb Raider. I've played TR2,TR3 and i was looking foward to TR4:TLR. Know something? This ain't a bad game but it isn't a great game either.

Nice FMV, lots of jumping and shooting. Maybe it's really fun but i still think that i could do without the long long levels that sometimes stretches too damn long that it seems that i would give up first.

Lots of backtracking. Graphics and sound- pretty good but not spectacular or amazing. The story is kind of good at the start but becomes ridiculous as the plot thickens.

The last boss, an egyptian pyscho-freak is pretty dumb too, the TR3 last boss was better, much more exciting.

Lara dies in the end or maybe not- they have milk this money-cow. Anyway, i'd suggest you rent this game first. And while i feel that the negative reviews of this game are a little uncalled for-i have to say that it does get boring and it does fall short of greatness.

But sadly, it's the only PS franchise i truly admire.
