This was the first game I got for the Playstation, back in the Christmas of 2000. The first time I played it, I was hooked. The graphics are simply amazing in this game. Everything is so interactive, and it all almost looks real. I like all of the characters. You got Spyro the Dragon, Sparx the Dragonfly, Elora the faun, Hunter the Cheetah, the Professor (I think he's a bear...), Zoe the Fairy, Moneybags (I think he's a bear to), Ripto, Gulp, Crush, and lots lots more. All the worlds are fun to play, but not all of them are that easy. The controls are very easy to get used to, so you won't have to be doing any confusing combos. Everything is just kept simple. I personally thought that the storyline was very good, but that's just my opinion. What you have to do, is go through the big world Avalar, collecting Talismans and orbs, collect Gems (trust me, that's what takes a really long time), defeating Riptocs, Bosses (Crush and Gulp) along the way. It all ends with your final battle against Ripto (and trust me, I found this boss fight REALLY hard). After that, you get to unlock a secret level! But that's only if you've collected enough orbs or gems, whichever. I hope I didn't spoil the whole game for you. Anyways, if you're a fan of the Spyro series, I suggest buying this game. Even if you're not, you might get some enjoyment out of it.
It's even better than the first one!

I got the first Spyro game for a christmas present along with a playstation and some other games. I have played alot of video games and i found that Spyro was the best. It's not to hard and its not too easy. I loved it. I couldn't wait till the sequel came out. When I saw it in a gamer magazine i told myself that i had to get it. I finally got it! It's just like the first one exept it's got different gameplay, new moves, and its alot more fun! I recommend this game for all ages. I have one thing to say:It's the best game I've ever played!
Warning: This game will spoil you!

If you buy this game, be prepared for the fact that 95% of the other PSX games out there won't look good enough or play well enough to bother with anymore! Unbelievable, gorgeous 3D graphics, great writing, great design, cool music. You can play this one over and over, and you'll definitely want to.
The first Spyro was a really good game, but this one leaves it behind -- especially the underwater action, which is the easiest and coolest on the market. This one also features tons of cool side-games, including awesome aerial races.
This game is appropriate for any age player -- it relies on lots of non-violent action, problem-solving skills, and of course quick reflexes! But you don't have to be a experienced player to enjoy the game, although getting to 100% _will_ take you a while. But you'll almost certainly enjoy the trip!
Best platform game for the PS1?

Spyro 2 is an excellent game. It has everything that makes platform games fun: bright, colorful characters, excellent graphics, excellent gameplay, good variety of gameplay and sheer fun factor. While playing Spyro 2, I realized that I was playing one of the most enjoyable platform games that I'd put inside a console system. Sure, the game is really cutesy looking with all kind of kiddie cartoon graphics, but don't be fooled. Spyro 2 is enjoyable enough to keep even fans of Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy entertained. Also, it doesn't simply cater to the male dominated game audience. It's an enjoyable game for both guys and girls.
I was engrossed in the game for months. It's not a difficult game at all, but it took me a while to beat as I'm not quite a game expert. Each of the game's levels (in three different worlds) is challenging in its own way. There are many tasks to perform and puzzles to solve. You can speed through the game quickly, or you can take your time and try to collect all the orbs in the game (I think there are 64 total). Getting to the end isn't very difficult at all, but completing the game 100% is a bit more challenging. This adds a substansial replay factor to the game. You can go back and play the levels over and over attempting to collect everyting. It took me a long time to get all the gems and orbs in the game. The game isn't particularly long, but it sure is fun.
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage is definitely worth buying for anyone who likes platform games or just really, really fun games. Since it's now available as a Greatest Hits title, it's more affordable than ever. If you have a Playstation, or a Playstation 2, get this game!
They took the best of the first one and went running!

From the moment you step into the world after the opening cinematic, you know you've got a different animal with Spyro 2. Where the original felt closed-off in personality (but still an excellent game), Spyro 2 rewards the player with meeting after meeting after meeting between Spyro and in-game characters (this time with well done and sometimes amusingly quirky spoken word! [a high mark since so many games these days rely on screen-text and have no vocal presence] many of whom you must interact with to take on certain quests and whatnot. The look is exactly the same, but with improvements far more than visual eye candy (there is some of that, try his SUPER FLAME for kicks). Climbing, head-bashing, swimming (herein lies one of the most impressive traits: The 3d feel is not lost as one might expect it would be when swimming....It's almost like a 3rd person view flying the ship in Descent.....excellent)... And near and dear to my heart, there are many more opportunities than in the original to take full flight and just go crazy with Spyro!
Moreover, the addition of multitudinous side quests with far more dynamic than the original's "collect every last gem" ethic, this game exceeds expectations on all levels. You CAN beat it with a moderate effort, but getting the full 100%, that's another story. Excellent for those who want a good, clean (and sometimes goofily) fun game that can appeal to any age.
No Venture's Quest but enjoyable none the less...

I grew up with games like PAC Man and Venture's Quest where the graphics were nothing more than box figures with different coloration. Spyro 2 is a great distraction from daily routines and has enough goofy humor to hold the attention of a 30-year-old. Not to mention the hours of fun we've had watching some less coordinated people attempt to jump, glide and land on precise locations. Well worth the cost for the amateur standing players. Those with more hours under their belt may find the game rather pedestrian. The video sequences are a little long at time but can be bypassed for those with less patience. Overall, I enjoy it and so have several guests. As a matter of fact now there are several memory cards for each of the visitors that have started to play and continue on each visit. Enjoy.

People, I am a dragon lover, and maybe that's why I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game! I am not done with the game yet, but far enough into it to know a lot of stuff about it. Spyro 2 has awesome graphics, although there are sharp edges on some things (but who cares). In the game you collect gems, which you need in order to gain certain special abilities. You also need orbs, which are obtained by finding them or gaining them in a puzzle. There are many characters that you talk to and they help you. This is not a game where the levels go 1 2 3. You choose the order you want to go in (at least in that world; you need to gain a certain amount of things or beat a level to go on to new worlds)! This game has a plot, and it is fun to watch. In the last Spyrro game, which I thought was O.K. (although this game is MUCH better), you had to collect EVERY SINGLE GEM to win (which means you have to defeat every bad guy in the game, too). In Spyro 2, you have to beat characters to win, which as not as frustrating and annoying. There is no violence in this game (well, except for blowing fire at enemies and charging them). You can easily gain lives if you need them by getting butterflies for your friend Sparx, who takes your damage that enemies do 3 times (this does not mean the game is too easy or too hard). Sparx follows you around all the time, unless he is hit 3 times. Every time you get a butterfly, he gets stronger. If you like games with adventure, creativity, FUN, and/or tricky puzzles, then this is the game for you. Oh, and one more thing: BUY THIS GAME! IT IS WORTH EVERY CENT!
