More challenging than one would think

I was a little surprised by the earlier negative review based on how easy this game was. The thing I found best about it was that the difficulty is completely variable. Each world/level has many optional tasks that you can choose to perform or to skip. I can see that you could hurry through by doing just the minimum for each level but where's the fun in that? It is a marvellous antedote for the rest of the tacky, poorly conceived games that I have rented for my 7 year old daughter and is the ONLY one I have had any interest in playing myself. This one is definately on the Christmas list
Perfection! (again!)

The original Spyro was a masterpiece, and I count it as the sole reason that (at 28 years old) I still play video games. The beautifully rendered worlds, the humorous animations, and the attention to details really create a sense of being in a vast, magical world. I didn't think they could possibly improve on the original. But they did.
Spyro 2 manages to maintain everything that made the original a classic, and goes on to add much, much more to do. You play hockey, you defend villagers from giant ravenous lizards, you play hide-and-seek with a giant, you fight enormous monsters in lava-filled arenas, you play billiards with turtles (you have to see it to understand!), you dogfight versus sheep in flying saucers, and these are just a few of the side quests - I think there are 64 in all. Then there are loads of secret "skill points" throughout the worlds (and a really cute reward for finding all of them.) Overall, Spyro 2 is a beautiful addition to a flawless original game. The sequel adds even more humor, and manages to do it in a way that appeals to adults and children at the same time for different reasons (in much the same way as the old Warner Bros. cartoons.)
If anyone needs further proof of this game's appeal to a broad age spectrum, you should know that my mother absolutely loves it. She had never played a video game before the original Spyro, but when she tried it she was hooked. She bought Spyro 2 the day it came out, and has called me at all hours of the day and night asking for hints. She just got to 93% completion yesterday, and now she's trying to find all the secret skill points. I'm just glad that she now shares my point of view: video games aren't all mindless, repetitive drivel. Some of them have real class.
A great family game

I purchased Spyro last year and all the kids in my family loved it. The adults played it almost as much because of easy game play, good characters and simply, alot of fun. Spyro 2 is at least as good as Spyro. The new moves, challanges and characters are great fun. The game was a big hit over Thanksgiving weekend and kept kids of all ages amused and entertained for hours. There is nothing in the game that is offensive and it is ofter quite funny.

I really enjoyed the first Spryo because of the fun and imaginative gameplay that involved fanciful levels and a loveable cast of characters. The first time I played Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, I was amazed at how much the graphics had improved. If you loved the scenery in Spyro, you'll love the beautiful levels in Spyro 2. In this game, you have several new challenges and abilities. In Spyro 2, you get to swim underwater, which really adds something to the gameplay. Another addition is the orb, which Spyro can get for completing challenges. Although the challenges are sometimes tedious, this is also an interesting addition because it allows you to test your abilities. Spyro 2 expands on the fun and creativity of the first Spyro, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves fun, fantastical gameplay and especially to those who enjoyed the first Spyro.

Spyro 2 is great except for one thing: it's too short. Spyro 1 kept my son and me entertained for weeks! Spyro 2 will be completed (via rental) before I even get a chance to buy him a copy for Christmas!
The new moves are cool. Hope they continue with the excellent graphics and come out with aother Spyro in the near future.

No Dragons, Just Orbs

I was expecting another round of Dragon rescues, but was pleasantly surprised. Some of the orbs are really hard to find, and Hunter can be difficult to beat. Overall it's fun and the graphics are just as great as the first Spyro. Ripto and his goons are toungher than Gnasty Gnorc ever thought about being! In Autumn Plains, look for cracks in the walls (that's the only hint you're getting)! The only thing that kept me from rating it 5 stars is the ending ... what a bummer.

I've only been a Playstation owner for a little over a year. The first game we bought was Spyro the Dragon, back in late 1998. What a perfect example of what the Playstation is capable of. I still play Spyro 1, even after beating it a few times.
Now comes along Spyro 2, and they actually DID manage to top the original. The graphics are absolutely breathtaking, the new puzzles are (and I hate to use such a hackneyed phrase as this, but it fits) fiendishly clever. And Stewart Copeland has outdone himself, creating a score that blends seamlessly into the game, creating a totally enthralling *experience*.
Game play itself is pretty much the same, with a few new moves to learn, but the same precise control. There's more interaction with characters in the game, and a storyline that's more involved than the previous outing. And the mini-games within the whole game will keep you coming back to have a little fun long after you've finished the game (which is quite involved, between the actual story line, the 100% complete, AND the skill points! This one will keep you busy for a while!).
All in all, I'm completely psyched. I can't wait for either: a) Spyro 3, or: b) Super-Happy-Fun-Spyro on the Playstation 2! (yeah! )
Disappointing Sequel to the Original

Spyro was the best game we have bought for the Playstation and we were looking forward to this sequel. We we greatly disappointed.
Spyro 2 introduces new moves, worlds and characters but sacrificies the adventure. The worlds are to small and busy. There are also way to many animated "movie clips." They really break the action. Also the animation is cheap looking if contrasted with the original.
The original Spyro kept the parents as well as the 4 year old captured for weeks until we completed it. The sequel will bore you if you are much older than 4.
But the 4 year old loves it! If you want something for everyone in the family, get the original.
The best Platfrom game ever, no matter what every body say !

Spyro The Dragon was one of the most wonderful platform game ever, That game introduce to you a small cute Dragon called Spyro, he can glide, charge, or flame the enemies, but now in this new and great game, Spyro has grown up, he can swim, head bash, climb, play hockey, and lots of new abilities.
In the first game, Gnasty Gnorc has turned all the dragons to status, and Spyro have to release them, collect all the eggs and treasure, and kill some gnorcs through 6 greats worlds, but now, the only dragon that Spyro has to worry about is his self.
After finishing Gnasty Gnorc, Spyro return to the dragons world, and during a raining day, Spyro decided to go to Dragon Shores so he entered the portal that lead to the shores, meanwhile, in the world of Avalar, the professor was researching a huge worlds portal when Hunter opened the portal to a strange world, a strange lizard named Ripto jumped out of the portal with 2 crazy monsters called Gulp and Crash, Ripto has know (well, smell it) that this world doesn't contain dragons so he announced his self a leader for Avalar, so the professor, Hunter and Elora head to Glimmer to bring a dragon to end Ripto's craziness, the professor has opened the portal at the same time when Spyro jumped into the portal of Dragon Shores, so the chosen dragon was the poor Spyro, he has to collect talismans, orbs and treasure from each world, and he has to solve some puzzles and help peoples through some very exciting minigames, and finally, defeat Ripto.
This game is really massive, it is very huge and challenging, even if it contain only 3 world, but it contain lots of levels and minigames which will keep you in front of your PlayStation days and night, and you'll know why the company called it self Insomniac Games.
The graphics are really great, some water special effects, rainbow colors, funny characters, and huge wonderful world. Where ever you look, you'll find every thing visible, nothing is hidden behind fogs, just like the first game. You can go to the top of the castle in Autumn plains and look to see a very far platform that you'll have to reach using your glide and hover ability which give you an extra boost to land on the cliffs, it is really great.
The sounds are great too, Stewart Copeland, the ex-member of police, has again played the music for the game, and the sounds are really funny and suitable for the game.
You want my advice, get this game, if you are saving your money for another game, then you'll have to forget about that game, and have Spyro 2 instead of it, don't be fooled by its look and never think it is only for kids! believe me, I have played lots of games but this one is different, it has a magical attracting power, you won't regret it.
Better than the original, and genuinely fun for all ages.

As much as I loved the original Spyro -- the sequel blows it away.
Everything that I liked best about the original -- the interactivity, the detailed and sophisticated environments and fun stuff like blowing things away with cannons -- is back and cranked up several notches.
Everything that made the original game sometimes seem repetitive -- doing nothing but collecting gems and dragons, the tiny worlds, only being able to use a few moves in any given environment -- is dumped.
And while this game really is perfect for kids -- the worst thing in it is some cartoon violence of dinosaurs swallowing cavemen and spitting out an enormous bone -- it's a hoot for adults, with lots of subtle humor and a game that's challenging enough without having anything as frustrating as Tree Tops from the original game.
An instant classic.
