I loved the original Gran turismo, as a racing fan I thought the idea of being a private driver, buying and upgrading your chosen vehicle was a wonderful idea. So after playing the original through completely, persevering through the faults I found a great deal of enjoyment.
The car selection has been widened a lot. Instead of having 10 companies too choose from there is now way over 30! The car count individually has also rose way above standard up to beyond 400 vehicles! Whether your chosen weapon of speed is a Honda NSX or a Lister Storm. Another surprise emergence was the fact that a spin off Porsche company came in to fill that long-term gap for a true sexy sports car.
Race count and tournament count have soared! The original had about 20-25 where as this has at least triple that amount! Another area that was vastly increased was the license test, up from 24 to 60! However I'm still unsure whether this a good thing or a bad thing...
However when I played my copy of GT2 I was amazed at how little had been done to upgrade the game engine in the actual races from last time. While the upgrading of actual cars had been improved, and the addition of numerous tracks, which include the terribly overrated Laguna Seca. There was still lots of things that dragged it down. First of which was the physics, when two cars crash head on at 100 Mph plus, you expect them to fly off the track, smash into barriers and at least have a lengthy penalty for both drivers. But here the rule is different, you fly off into barriers but apart from on very rare occasions the computer simply moves marginally off line losing about 2 seconds of time. Real driving I don't think so!
Also there seemed to be numerous bugs, that included the inability to save times for laps and races. Worse though was the fact that on my version at least there was a mode missing! Not a good thing, if like me you want to complete 100%.
Faults aside the game does still have the indescribable ability to drag you back, even though you curse the faults! This is what in my view makes GT2 an experience that although flawed is still worth checking out. There is much greater excuse if you love cars or racing games.
Definitely worth playing, but seems a little bit of a letdown unfortunately. A real shame, let's just hope that GT2000 on Playstation 2 is far better...

I liked this game a lot. It was very good. But so was GT1. You have more cars and tracks on GT2 but I don't think it's better than GT1. On a lot of sequels that i've seen they try too hard to make the sequel better and they screw up. GT2 is a great game but I wouldn't waste my money on GT2 if I already have GT1.

That is the only phrase you need to know about this game. After you play this game you will never look at the cars around you in traffic again. Think about it you can be behind the wheel of that Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla you own and compete against comparable cars. So, be forewarned this game is not for those who have a tendency to get addicted to things easily or take a leave of absence from school or work and play on.
Reality and fun.

I have a small collection of Playstation games, yet this is one of the best simulation games for sale. There are multiple things you are able to do, from rally racing and endurance racing to washing your vehicle. If you like real simulations, then this is the game for you! If you like driving games along the lines of "Rush" and "twisted metal", then you may not thoroughly enjoy this game. Whether your into muscle cars or imports, you can have fun with this game.

I got this game when I got my PSone back in July and I simply love it. If you love cars and just pure racing, this ones for you. With over 400 cars and actual real-life tracks, this game is as close to the real thing as you can get. This game focuses on the pressure to win. No jumps or shortcuts. Just pure racing, the way it should be. Keep in mind, this is not public street racing like SF Rush but thats the way real Gran turismo racing is. I like how you can upgrade your cars to be Crazy fast machines!! The driving is very realistic, and you really learn how to use oversteer and understeer to your advantage. The bottom line is...this game is the one everyone needs.

I am a hard to impress race game fan. I was dissappointed with all NFS games except the newest Porsche game. I had hoped that GT would satisfy my isatiable desire for a realistic, never-ending race game. It did that and oh so much more! GT2 has so many options and offers so much expansion that you could play it every day of your life for hours and never run out of new cars to buy or hop-ups to make your car faster and better handling. Even if you are not a race fan buy this game, you'll thank yourself. I just bought a PS2 and am counting the days until March 20, the said release date for GT3.

GT2 is one of the all-time classics in any genre. The variety of cars is staggering and the physics model is top-notch. Even with the advent of four new gaming systems since GT2 hit the scene, the graphics hold up pretty well. It's a must for the collection of any gamer that even remotely enjoys cars and driving.
