The Final Fantasy series will always have a special place in my heart. The one big dissappointment FFAnthology had for me was that FFIV (or ff2), my personal favorite (it being the first RPG I ever beat) was not included. I have heard rumors that it was in the Japanese version, and if so, then it was a very shallow trick to not include it. I mean, FFV is fun, and I like the music CD, but Why not FFIV? Why? *sniff*If nostalgia is the key, then why include a game we haven't seen before and toss up a classic like FFIV?
Gameplay wise, the controls are a little unwieldy at first, like in pretty much the entire series, but you get used to it. FFVI is still the same, which is either good or bad depending. FFV is fun, and I love the FMV cinemas. All in all, it's a good collection, but it isn't complete. With FFIV, It would have been a true anthology.
a fun game inded

If you do not own this package, why not? This has Final Fantasy VI which is not only the best Final Fantasy, but the best video game in my opinion! If you are a new-gen RPGer, put the graphics aside and play this! You'll be hooked. This game has it all! Characters, gameplay, music, story! This is an epic compared to any other Final Fantasy. This stands as the only video game that can make me cry (when a certain someone jumps off of a cliff). While just FFVI alone is worth the price, this also comes with FFV. While not one of the best Final Fantasies, it's still very entertaining and has the cool job system that FF Tactics later borrowed.
I highly recommend this over FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX.
Gotta get it

I haven't gotten this game yet, I'm waiting for a non-used copy to come into stock at any place (Lotsa luck...). I would like to say, though, that Final Fantasy is, in my opinion, the best series of games ever released, and anyone who dwells on the graphics of a game can not fully appreciate the beautifully developing story lines or character attitudes that are present in these types of games, and those people shouldn't buy these in the first place (Leave more copies for those like me who might enjoy the game!!). Also (In a response to a previous post), it would be, I think, a bad idea to integrate new cinematic graphics into such an old classic (No offense to the guy who wrote that post). On a final note, anyone new to this series (Where have you been??), ignore such frivolous remarks as those seen posted by 11 year olds. :) Happy gaming.
Two great games

Final Fantasy Anthology features Final Fantasy (FF) V and VI. These games were originally for the Super Nintendo, however they were adapted for Playstation 1.
Final Fantasy V is a game with 4 characters and uses what many RPG players may know as the "job class" system. In other words, the character can be a knight, monk, or ninja, specializing in skills unique to each class. The magic is bought in stores, which I don't necessarily like, but the game itself is solid.
Final Fantasy VI is a game where the job classes are somewhat "built in," and the game features at least 12 playable characters. The jobs are built in, because each character has unique "job commands." Locke has a "steal" command, Terra can do magic early in the game where it is not readily available. The plot is really good in this FF game, and it is easily in my personal top 5 of video games I've ever played.
This is a great collection and I encourage any vintage RPG lover to try it out.

Beware! These two games are not for the trifle, the stupid, the immature or the "trend" gamer. They do not include state of the art graphics, countless cheapy made accessories, online multiplayer options or "Poptarts" promotions. What's left then?... most of you surely are asking. Well, these two game DO however include: truely compelling storylines, innovative gameplay, in-depth character development, and beautiful musical scores. They are timeless masterpieces that helped make the SNES easily the best console ever, and are now being re-discovered on the playstation. TRUE gamers, be you old-skool or newly fledged, I give you Final Fantasy Anthology.
i remember a time, not so long ago...

when the name final fantasy on a game box meant something. final fantasy 3(6) represents the best square has ever put out. don't get me wrong, i enjoyed ff1, ff7 and 9 too. i cant speak for ffx2, or 11, as i haven't played them. square, if you are thinking about how to make your next ff, create something as good as ff3(or even just close) and your fans will love you for it. i am glad ff has come to the gamecube, but lets be serious, crystal chronicles is weak...very weak. online capability is ok too, but the strongest point of a good rpg should always be single player. i know that you can make a good game square/enix, you have it in you, so please do us a favor and no more ff10's or crystal chronicles. sorry about the spiel, i highly recommend this anthology, ps2er's(or ps1) shouldnt be without it.
Profound disappointment for both

It was with joy and alacrity that I got this double disc set. I loved FF6, and spent countless hours exploring every corner of it. Playing through this version was just to see what was changed, and I was dismayed to see that very little was different. It certainly seemed harder, and while some of the bugs in the programming (particularly the Sketch glitches) were improved and corrected, I did not find anything to further impress me. In fact, the CG scenes at the beginning and end felt tacked on - like they didn't belong. They also failed to make sense to me. The little things - the galleries and stuff - seemed totally unnecessary and useless.
As for FF5, I almost immediately disliked this one. The score is often uninspired (and at times, downright irritating - take the music of Kerwin Town for instance), the plot weak, the characters totally without a personality (except Faris), the dialogue corny, the twists not that shocking. What's more, it doesn't look one bit better than FF4. The random battles are, at times, too many and too challenging. The side quests are without purpose, as are many of the villains, and the plot doesn't seem to hang together well. The opening CG scene has nothing to do with the game, and the ending one is a disappointment, and more than a disappointment. Taken altogether, I was very much disappointed with the set. I feel like I paid for tickets to a great opera and all I got was Tennessee Ernie Ford.
If you've never played either one, you will likely have a good time playing these two. Taken individually, they are good games. I love FF6 - always have - but FF5 ticked me off. If you're not expecting anything spectacular, you won't be disappointed. Guess I *was* expecting it!
Loading Times and Boringness Galore

Final Fantasy VI is a very good game, however its story is boring at times and charecters remain very underdeveloped throughout the story. The magic system is good, however the loading times produced by the PlayStation are deadly. If you really want to play this game - play it as it was meant to be on Super Nintendo.
Final Fantasy V wasnt released in the United States because it was too "weird" and "complex" for american gamers according to SquareSoft producers. Well, i'd have to concur with them in that the Job system is good if you plan on spending more time configuring your chars than playing. The story is pretty entertaining, but the graphics are getting pretty dated.
Final Fantasy V and VI. Nuff said.

Final Fantasy Anthology is a winner. This game is not for the weak or lazy. These two games require great amounts of time to complete; about 60 hours each. Final Fantasy V is the most difficult of the series. Its difficulty was the reason for it not being released in the US. FFV is for the true die-hard RPG fan. Its limited graphics and weak translation are easily overlooked by its great gameplay and addictive tendencies. Final Fantasy VI is slightly easier, but extremely great. It has a great story, better graphics, and better gameplay. It even has art galleries and enemy listings in the game. The music CD included has all the memorable FFV and VI tunes, but it is only SNES quality, therefore easy to ignore. Nothing special there. I only recommend this set to an RPG fan. Other players, who enjoy fighting games or shooters, will not enjoy this. It requires many hours, lots of patience, and will. All in all, GET IT.
