This game, along with other PSX classics like Ridge Racer 4 and Tekken 3, probably soaked up to half my free time in my freshman year in college. This is a classic game and deserves all the recognition it gets. There aren't many other games where you can drive thru regular traffic and T-bone a cop car just for sh**'s & giggles. Plus, the music is funky and true to the era the game takes place in, and so are the movie cuts and the cars...speaking of that, anybody whining about the poor handling of the cars apparently doesn't understand physics : Hello people! a near 2 ton 71' 454 Chevelle is going to hug a corner like a 97' Honda Civic! It's called weight distribution, look it up. Cars of the 70's era were like that, it's called authenticity and i'm glad the programmers did that.
The graphics aren't the greatest, but just wait till Driver 3 comes out. One complaint is you can't run over people like Grand Theft Auto, but oh well. There is great attention to detail in other places, such as the locations, as far as I know, most of the streets in San Francisco are true to real life. Other great details include your car losing its hubcaps if drive to aggressively (ala the movie Bullitt). All in all, this game has classic written all over it, and is probably one the best games for old-school Playstation fans.
not as good as GTA

As I said above Driver is not as good as Grand Theft Auto. Graphics are really jaggey, though, but better than GTA's 2-D graphics. There are only 4 cities to drive in but they are alot of fun. The reason I said that it is not as good as GTA is because you can't steal other cars, and you can't shoot people. But, don't think that Driver is not a good game, it is. It has a great 3 person shooter and the gameplay is just plain FUN.

If you are just reciveing just Playstation or Playstation2 buy this game. It is the best car game you'll ever be able to buy. With an undercover mission you can get many cities throughout the USA. You start out with Miami and San Fransisco. Then as you beat more Undercover missions you'll soon get Los Angles and New York. The Missions get harder. But the hardest are at the end. You have a possible option to cheat and on the last phases you can't pass them without cheats.
So buy this game for your own good.
This Game is the best

I'm eleven years old and have played Driver for a few weeks. I think it's awesome. Personally, I think the Mature rating is stupid. The only thing that's really bad about this game is that you run away from the cops and there's one scene where there's blood. No big deal.
This games graphics aren't the best but they're still cool. The game play is tight. It's not too hard but it's still challenging.
In the undercover spot, you do missions for thieves, robbers and gangsters. (Don't get the wrong idea, though - it's not bad at all).
You can also go to driving games where you chase someone and try to ram them and lose their damage. You can also go to take-a-ride and you can drive around the city, getting chased by cops until your damage bar runs out.
This is a must-get game - the BEST.
A limited yet intriguing game.......

Taking the first right in San Francisco, I barrel down the street, winging the two successive and massive jumps. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the expierence, the game has its limits. Primeraly, the largest limatation is the inability to replace my old, and usually wrecked, car. To be succinct, Driver is really to limited for maximum enjoyment; albeit, the idea of driving wrecklessly and commiting a myriad of other violent offences is very contemptable to me, the game is really incomplete without more objectives.
Thus, I would recommend this game for the player who merely has a habit of playing now and then, but not for the hardcore gamer. Rock on!
Good game, but the computer version is better

This is good, but the PC version has better lighting effects, and more features. But this is the next best thing.
