This is definitly the most realistic racing/driving simulation videogame ever created! The depth that you can get involved with cars & racing in the simulation mode is nothing short of amazing! From buying the car and to racing it, and winning money for upgrading hundereds of different combos of components......from disc brakes, to turbo-kits & suspension, theres loads of upgrades to choose from. Plus you can win many different cars and sercret cars. The arcade modes lets you jump into the game and race nice cars for fun! Oh, but beware, you need a license to play this game....literally! You have to actually test drive cars in a certain time limit on different levels each with a number of stages to win 5 different classes of licenses to race in all racing categories. Some of the license tests are really hard too! But I recommend this game for it's deep gameplay, something which most other racing games lack.

With the fun driving games out there, it was refreshing to find such a challenging games as GT3. Although it'd been out there for a few years, I just picked it up and am glad I did. I like the "fun" arcade style driving games, but I get bored with them after a while. GT3's realism keeps me playing the same track over and over and over, trying to beat my previous performance. I spend a lot of time in front of this game, bending the sticks on my PS2 controller, much to my wife's chagrin.
If you like fun driving games, but are looking for something with more of a "self-challenge" feel to it, try GT3.
Best Game since GT2!!!!!!!!!!!

Gran Turismo 2 is one of my favourite racing games. My mum bought a PS2 to play it. but the free games with my PS2 are tedious. Gran Turismo 3 has fewer cars than Gran Turismo 2. but has a few more tracks. The graphics beat 989's Formula One 2001 which I'm steering clear of. I got it today with Crash Bandicoot. My other disc of Crash Bandicoot broke. Gran Turismo 3 is too much better than my SNES games. Buy this.
hey, it's pretty good

When I first got this game, it was kind of boring in the arcade mode, but when I discovered the simulation mode, it started to be pretty fun. the only bad parts is that when you dont have a very good car, than you have to do the same race over and over again to get some money. Other than that, it is a very good game and I recommend it to anybody.
a fun racing game but i bit hard

this game is a challenging, but very fun(if u hav alots of free time).in the game, its very hard 2 make turns, u either crash into walls or get hit by cars behind u cause u stopped 2 long. to make the game more entaining , i suggest u buy a driving wheel, it makes the game alot more fun.
in the game, there are 2 modes u can play,Arcade mode and simulation mode.the acrcade mode is a waste of time if your playing by your self cause it the simuation mode has everything arcade mode has and even more. in the simuation mode you can buy cars and tune it with "credits" . u get it by winning races. when beginning the simuation, u get 10,000 credits and enter either , the Beginner league,Amateur league, pro league, rally events, or the endurance races. differnet competition requires different license where u hav 2 take these different test @ License Center(it is very hard). occasionally, u hav 2 hav a car wash or oil change @ the GT auto but ur car will b fine without it.overall this game is fun,but it takes alot of pratice to master it.
hope it helps
The definitive driving simulator

Gran Turismo 3 was one of the most eagerly-anticipated PS2 titles ever when it was released, and for good reason. It is truly an awesome game. The car models look virtually real, possessing many times the detail of the models in Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2, and they handle in a surprisingly true-to-life manner. Everything is adjustable: suspension, tires, brakes, engine, transmission, downforce, even weight. And these changes actually affect the cars' performance! Little details like heat distortion rising off sun-baked pavement, brake pads glowing from friction, and tires smoking from a lateral skid all serve to add to the already impressive aura of realism surrounding things.
The sound in Gran Turismo 3 is equally impressive: everything from the Dodge Viper's primal growl to the high-strung whine of an Indy car is delivered with astonishing clarity - particularly if routed through a five-speaker home entertainment system. The tracks, for the most part, are very well done. It would have been nice to see more new/original tracks, as opposed to those simply carried over from the previous two Gran Turismo titles, but overall they're quite good. That said, the only other complaint I have with this game is with the cars themselves. Although the models are excellently done, there are too few of them; the number of individual car types in GT3 is easily half of what the other two installments had. A surprising number of them are obscure foreign models with dismal horsepower and weird styling that, quite frankly, I could easily do without. Automotive powerhouses Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche are conspicuously absent (though they do manage to sneak in a few Porsches under the guise of the RUF moniker). Even American companies like Chrysler, Ford, and Dodge are somewhat shortchanged. It's the Japanese cars that take center stage this time around, with companies like Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Subaru, and Nissan getting the most models. Hopefully Gran Turismo 4 (yes, they are making one) will be more balanced in that respect. Something else I would like to have seen retained is the ability to give cars racing paint schemes.
Once you find a car you like (there are still plenty of awesome ones to choose from) and tune it up, however, all of this fades away. It's just you, your machine, and the road ahead. Enjoy.

Gran Turismo 3 is currently the leader in the racing genre when it comes to realism. There are nearly 200 brand name cars available to race and modify, the graphics contain an astounding amount of detail, and even the soundtrack is great (well, mostly). In the simulation mode, there are enough options to satisfy any gear head, and an arcade mode is included for those who just want to get right into the game without having to deal with all of the technicalities. My only gripe with GT3 is the same problem I've had ever since it's first incarnation...the license tests. While it could be argued that they add to the overall realism factor, they will frustrate many players who want to complete every race in simulation mode. Despite that hurdle, GT3 is a racing game that anyone can enjoy (if you can't tolerate the license tests, there's always the arcade mode after all). If you are a racing fan and own a Playstation 2, Gran Turismo 3 is a must buy.
Its a keeper

This game is a must have for PS2 owners. I didn't like cars that much before I bought this game, but now I'm getting into them. The physics are pretty real (although I've never driven at 150 MPH) except for the crash physics. There is no damage physics in this game. If u hit a wall, the car slows down, but it escapes unscratched. I though this was weird, and it does detract from the game a little, but then I thought of what the game would be like if there was damage. Crusin down a straight away in your 2 million dollar car when the CPU cuts you off, sending you into the wall. There goes a couple of weeks of work. Fortuneatley this never happens. Even if you aren't a car freak, you'll like this game.
One word...."Amazing"

Truly one of the most realistic driving games ever! There are moments you can't tell the difference between reality and what are scenes fom the game. Great gameplay. If you buy this get ready to never leave your house.

How can a person actually gives one star to this game??? For those people who give one star, you probably don't drive or don't know anything about racing. This game is insanely stunning (Graphics, Sound, Replay value)! With the price [$$$]right now, you should get it quick! but I figure everyone should have already owned it. GT3 offers you a variety of racing, with many many many racing tracks. It also gives you real life racing experience of how to corner, make fast U-turns etc. With so many cars to choose from, you can feel a taste of every vehicle. You can feel the difference between FWD, RWD, AWD race cars. Every car just gives you a different driving feel, so you'd have to adjust your handling skill on each car. I don't recommend GT series to kids because they'll just always complain how hard the game is. This is the game for people who love real racing and challenge, not for people who only like racing games like Mario-cart. If you are like me, this would be the best racing game that suits you.
