To buy this game I read all the reviews. It was just as everybody says... awesome!!! great graphics and watching the replay is more fun than playing it. It is so realistic!!!.

This game is unique in every way. First off, the graphics. That is what got my attention in the first place. Second, the cars, my favorite of all the Chrysler. Third, the courses, all liscenced and realistic. There are many features in this game like, Sunday Drives, Championship races, Classic Car drive shows, Rally and tune shop. More and more are available to say but i ain't got that much time. Well, if you liked this game or you're thinking about buying it, get GT4 instead. This game is great as far as i'm concerned but GT4 is the advanced version and has twice the features this game has. Plus it claims to have ferrarris motor bikes and drag racing.
Simply Very Good

GT3 is a very good racer, but beware of the hype. I own GT3 and Moto GP on PS2, and several Dreamcast racers. And, frankly, GT3 has some serious competition, such as Metropolis Street Racer on Dreamcast. You simply don't hear too much about MSR because of the limited size of the Dreamcast market. If it had been a PS2 game, though...
Regardless, GT3 DOES excel graphically. The combination of 60-fps speed, detailed high-polygon cars, and true reflective surfaces is impressive. Dreamcast racers always have 2 of the 3, but rarely all of them. The stages are mostly supremely enhanced variations of those in GT2, and generally impress. Here, however, most (not just some) DC racers beat GT3, especially in texture detail. Blessedly, the well-documented PS2 "jaggies" are basically eliminated in GT3, in marked contrast to my beloved but "jaggy" Moto GP.
Gameplay-wise, there's a LOT here, as is to be expected of the series. But be prepared to be initially underwhelmed if you're an old hand at GT1 or GT2. GT3 plays almost exactly like the earlier games, and can sometimes feel like a boring (expensive) deja vu. Gamers new to the series will either marvel at the simulation aspect, or hate it (since it requires lots of deicated braking and turning, unlike a pick-up and powerslide Ridge Racer game).
Finally, there are some great cars to drive here, but the licensing is oddly hit and miss, with many, many ommissions from GT2. It's GREAT to see a beautifully modeled C5 Vette here, and the exotic Pagoni Zonda. Then you get a fun PT Cruiser, but no Neons on which it is based (yes, the PT Cruiser is a Neon underneath). You get only 1 Fiat (the Coupe), a racing Gillet but not the production car (?), only RUF variants of Porsches (automotive enthusiasts want an honest 250-bhp Boxster S to drive, not a 300 bhp RUF). No production Ford Focus like GT2 (but the Rally car is still here). At least the British TVR's are still here, as it wouldn't be Gran Turismo without them.
Oh well. GT3 is NOT perfect (I haven't mentioned the line-of-sight-obstructing outside car view; the inability to adjust music volume,...), and not a 5-star game. Know that going in, and you'll have a very good time with it.
Great game with a couple flaws

This game, like all the others in the Gran Turismo series, is a really great game. Many available cars, lots of tracks, hours of fun. There are a couple of noticable flaws, though, in this edition. First, there's only 1 BMW in the game. Yeah, 1. I, as well as many other GT fans, were hoping for more BMWs than in GT2, especially the addition of the M5, new M3, and M roadster for purchase and the original M (from 1979) as a car to win. The second problem is the amount of time it can take to get anywhere in this version. With less of a used car system than in GT2, you are stuck buying less to begin with and it takes even longer to get a car that will win you some races and some money. While it could be said that this extends the game, it's really more of an annoyance. Those issues aside, this is a great game, amazing graphics, and a lot of fun.
Looks good, but it's hard as hell.

I purchased this game with great anticipation. I played the original GT and I own GT2, but I lost interest due to the degree of difficulty involved in playing the game.
This game looks, feels, and sounds amazing, but once that excitement has passed, you're just left with an incredibly difficult game that is often more frustrating than fun. I can see why people love this game, but I just don't have the time to commit to building up a custom car, or learning how to drive all the different styles of cars in order to get anywhere in the game.
A great game, just make sure you have about 5 months to spare.
Best racing game EVER.

If you read the title that pretty much sums things up. This is the third title in the gran turismo series with the 2 others on playstation. If you need one reason to buy a ps2, this game alone is worth spending 300 bucks for the console.
I'll start out with the few bad things i've found in the game. The A.I. on the back of the game is toted as some sort of revolutional advancement or something but it's not really that much. You can still use the cpu cars to bounce of in turns and they still basically follow the same paths as in gt2, but sometimes they fight with each other but very few times. This is a really minor nit-pick and doesn't at all take away from the satisfaction of winning. And as in the others the licenses are a challenge but well worth the time.
Now to the positives, the first is the list of cars, down from gt2, but they basically just cut out the crap. you can't buy the midget anymore but all the good cars are back, the escudo, gt-one cars, and the cool subaru rally car. in addition to this are the new formula one cars which are easily the best cars in the game, they out handle everything else. Another great thing is the number of races, WAY up from gt2. there are at least twice the amount to clear, with better restrictions. Like you can't take a gt-one race car on the 80's sports car cup. The graphics and sound are as usual for a gran turismo game way above anything out there. as i read another reviewer say, watching the replays is almost as much fun as racing. the graphics are stunning, shows how much power the ps2 has. (wait till you see the rain/wet track effect, simply beautiful) As you can see i'm very obsessed with this game. I've played it everyday for about 3 weeks since i got it and i'm almost done. but the great thing is although i'm almost done, i still want to race, this game has emmence replay value.
If you don't want to read all those words, here's it in a nut shell. GRAN TURISMO 3 IS THE BEST RACING GAME EVER. If you don't have a ps2, your truly missing something. Who needs luigi's mansion?
Best Racing Sim Ever!!!!

The prior 2 Gran Tourismos were great games, but this one is simply incredible. It took everything those games had, multiplied it by a thousand and perfection was borne.
There are over 150 different cars to chose from, all fully customizable in color and engine settings. There are several courses from the previous incarnations, but they all recieved major facelifts with flags swaying in the wind and flashing lights so that they are not only gorgeous but have a real sense of living, breathing places. In Replay Mode on some tracks there is even a heat effect which rises off the road. I must say I love the replays, they are half the game for me, you can see all the good turns and horrible mistakes you made. The AI hasn't changed much since the last game, but it's still pretty good, if you make a mistake the other cars will take advantage of it.
Now you can't forget about the music. A load of great performers are featured on this game from Powerman 5000, Papa Roach, Junkie XL, and The Cult. The music just completes the game, it adds real flavour to the racing experience making it more exciting and fun.
This is a perfect game for any car enthusiast or racing game lover, it will challenge you, occasionally frustrate you, and have you sweating all the way to the finish line, but that's all a part of racing, isn't it?
HANDS DOWN the best racing game on the planet

I bought my PS2 about 8 months ago, I own one game..this is it, I don't even care about other games anymore. I rented all the other racing games to try them out but I always go back to this one. I'm a car fanatic and this game caters to people like me. With nearly infinte adjustments you can make on the cars and the most awesome tracks on the planet, this game should get 10 stars. If you are after a REAL racing game, with no silly story lines and you want to drive REAL cars, buy this game! I started out with a 12,000 dollar Toyota Vitz with 100 horsepower, now I've got nearly all of the 180+ cars on the game including the Formula One models that have up to 1000 horsepower. Be prepared to spend A LOT of time on this game, it's not one that you will beat in a week, it's had me captivated for nearly a year now!! Just go buy it..NOW!
You gotta get one of these!!

This is the game I've been waiting for, the reason I bought a PS2 in the first place and I am NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!
The graphics are excellent. You can see heat waves coming off the asphalt in replay mode, beams of sunlight coming through the trees as you tear down the backstretch on Trial Mountain, smoke coming from your tires can be seen in your mirror, sparks flying up from under cars as they bottom out on certain spots on the tracks, etc., etc. When my sons and I first got the game and put it in the PS2 and watched the intro we couldn't believe the realistic look of the cars. We were impressed to say the least. Then we started playing and OH MY!
The game physics are incomparable. The car handling is much improved over GT and GT2, and the X button on the Dual Shock 2 controller acts as an analog input also (thanks Sony).
This game is definitely worth the (PRICE) price tag. If you like racing games this is THE game to own, no other game can come close to it. Again, GT sets the standard for racing/driving games.
If you don't already own this game then like the title of my review says, "You gotta get one of these!!!"
