Why do people have to have realistic games. The whole point of a video game is just that. It is a game, which is meant to give you a feeling of fun. This games problem is it's too realistic. if yuo touch the analog stick a pinch to hard and you crash into a wall or spin out. If you make one mistake you lose. The controls are horrible. Does this sound like a source of entertainment to you? It isn't. Eventually we're gonna have video games that play us. this gets 1/2 a star
gt3 not that fun to play

This is the worst PS2 game I ever purchased and apparently one of the worst ever for PS2 since it is the number 1 traded game in the history is the console. I thought it would be fun but I was mistaken. The game looks great but that is where the realism ends. The control is terrible, there is no sense of speed at all, the cars handle like they weigh 100 tons, there are many cars but you can only afford a couple at the beginning until you win enough races to get enough money to purchase them which will take you about 200 hours of racing on the same few tracks over and over again. Then you have to pass licence tests to actually qualify to enter certain races and you even need to have certain cars to enter certain races, which means constantly racing the same tracks over and over to build up your money and then trading your car in for another to be able to race. Insane! The only redeeming quality about this game for me was that I enjoyed the rally tracks, after the fun had worn out on that, off to trade the game I went. Of course you have to almost pay the store for them to take it because they already had 23 used copies of it. This is the worst and most tedious game I've played on PS2 so far. Avoid.
Becoming wooden, and a bit boring

Yo! I've been gaming since I was in my teens. And I didn't get a Playstation until 2000, when the PS2 was super hard to get.
So, I didn't get GT 1 or 2 until around 2001. I loved those games. They really rocked. I actually remember GT 1 being the funnest.
Well, we have another version of this game, in GT 3. I have to say, this game is getting a bit wooden and boring. A Sim, it is, but without some "crashes" or other effects, it just falls flat, as far as I'm concerned.
I would not recommend buying this, unless it is the first GT you've played. Than, you may as well get GT 4, right?
I would say buy it as a first GT owned; other than that, nothing new here. Move on.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics and sound in this game are some of the best on PS2 but neither one of these factors matters when you don't have good gameplay. Sure you can fine tune your car and buy all kinds of parts for it, but is that really what a racing game is all about? When it comes to the racing part of the game, the handling of the cars is totally unforgiving leaving you with a hard and frustrating simulation. The gameplay is pretty much repetitive and the tracks are boring. This game gets dull very fast since you'll find yourself racing one competition event over and over to earn just enough money to buy that extra engine part that you want. If you want a fast paced, fun, exciting, and non-repetitive game, then get Burnout 2 or Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. These two games have a lot more different game modes that will keep you busy for hours while your Gran Turismo 3 sits on the shelf.
An ok game

this game isnt nearly the best racing game Ive seen. The cars look good but their handling isnt real at all. There is no car damage and you cant spin out other cars. Your basically just racing the track. The cars dont handle anything like the real things either. I own a Miata and an Aston martin and they dont come close in this game. The Rally portions of this game are easily the most rwarding but No Damage just puts this game further down my list. If you enjoy suping up Civics this is your game but if your into hot rods and real racing try something like Nascar Heat, Formula 1, or World of Outlaws Sprint cars. You'll see what real car setups feel like.

This game bites! Your speedometer says you're going 120 MPH and it feels like you're going 30! And the challenges to get licenses are lame. If I want to drive a car like this, I'll hop in my Corolla and drive around the block.
First great car racing game!

Even though it's not out yet, I can tell you this will be the best racing game ever. Over a 100 cars(A lot less then before) but the Polygonic shapes of the cars are 10, thats right, 10 times better then Gran Turismo 2 and 15 times better then the first one. When it rains, it becomes hard to control the car.(MOST OF THE INFORMATION GATHERED IS FROM EXTENDED PLAY ON TECHTV)Each car's engine can be heard exactly like it is in real life. This is said to become the biggest hit on the PSX2 in the year 2001. Guaranteed.
a bit overrated

While not trying to belittle certain small aspects of this game, i feel that all in all it is a bit overrated. The one main reason for this is the difficult driving mechanics. You may say, wel thats great it jst adds to the realism, but ive never played a videogame for the reality, quite the opposite actually. The whole reason we play videogames is to escape from reality, an hour or so at a time. This game all but throws reality right in to your home away from home.
In this game's favor, i do have to say that the selection of cars is incredible, and all the detail in being able to change things on your car, more engine than cosmetic, are a very nice change from the normal 50 or so stock cars. In conclusion, there is fun to be had here, just don't think your going to look like the king of racing in the process.
If what you think your getting is a quick adrenaline rush from this game, your wrong. I found this game to be THE lenghtiest racing sim. Some races can take 2 hours to complete, thats just one race, nto a tournament, which makes tension and adrenaline difficult to find.
In conclusion, if what you want is a powerhouse game that requires MANY hours to complete absorb all the content, this is just the ticket. However, if what your looking for is a quick and fun racing game to play with your friends i suggest Need for speed Hot pursuit 2, or underground, depending on if your in the mood for tuners or exotics, cuz i know i love both!
