This is the WORST baseball game I ever played!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 2 / 3

I like to listen to peoples opinion but how did other reviewers give this game 5 stars? This is absolutely the worst baseball game if not the worst game period that I have ever played. The only positive thing about this game is that it is loaded with options, but other than that, it shoots straight downhill from there.

First off, from the start the computer will always be better and faster than you no matter what level you choose to play (i.e. rookie, allstar, veteran). When the computer is fielding the ball it seems that the players move at turbo speed and 90% of the time they'll catch your hit no matter where it goes. On the other hand when you're fielding, your players seem to move at the pace of a toddler in the field. Also, when you actually get hold of the ball, your player seems to have to go through an entire motion before he receives your button command as to where he needs to throw the ball, it takes a good 1.5 seconds just to toss it to a base and you'll rarely ever get a double play that you should have gotten. It's so frustrating, you may be able to catch 3 out of ten hits if you're lucky. Team grading averages mean nothing in this game. I tried to like this game, believe me, I even tried playing as an all-star team against one of the worst teams in the league, but they still beat me 10 runs to 1.

Batting is horrible in this game. You do get four choices for batting options but none of them seem to use batting skill but more of pure luck than anything. The classic seem to work best, it's a horizontal oval icon on the screen which makes batting a little easier but never able to master. Zone batting is useless where it incorporates the batter tilting the analog stick to measure the angle you want to hit the ball. Normal is a small icon you can see on the screen where you can pretty much aim the ball where you want to hit it. It doesn't seem to work well because the icon has to be almost dead-set on the ball when it reaches you that you have just a fraction of a second to actually move the icon where the ball is and also swing. Easy just requires you to swing at whatever pitch comes your way but most of the time your player, no matter how good he is in real life, just pops it up in the air only to be caught by the unbeatable opposing 'robot' players.

I wont get much more into this game, I just wanted to cover the basics and warn others not to buy this game. Believe me, it's a total waste of money and this is coming from a die-hard baseball fan. If you want a great baseball game, look for World Series baseball 2K3, it should have everything you need to satisfy all your baseball cravings. As for this game, Acclaim needs to scrap the entire engine and start from scratch if they hope to be a contender in next years baseball game competition.

This game has some great features. I had fun setting up a franchise and drafting a team, etc. Then, I started to play the games. It was then that I began to hate it. From the graphics, to the players, to the motion of the game, and especially the hitting, All-Star Baseball '04 is lame. Even EA Sports '02 is far better. I'll be selling this game and buying the new EA Sports baseball. I'm sure it will blow ASB away, and has most of the cool features, too. Don't waste your money on this one! It simply doesn't measure up. I bought this because of the special features and the reviews I read on this site. Trust me, whoever wrote these probably works for Akklaim.

Thought buying was a good idea....it wasn't!

One word......Weak! On the outside, the game seems great, but once you dive into it, it not all what it's cracked up to be. I like a challenge, but trying to guess where the pitcher is going to pitch the ball is a bit difficult on a computer game. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a hit everytime, but it would help if the hitting zone for each player was a bit bigger than the 2mm it gives. Gameplay is a bit slow, and the runners speed to the bags are way too fast. It's almost as if they have a rocket strapped to their back to get them from base to base. If at all possible, preview first before buying. Just a suggestion.

I thought this game was going to be good because of all the high reviews. When i got the game it looked good because of the good graphics but the controls and gameplay are difficult to master. Even on rookie mode it is extremely hard to hit the ball. I also dont like when you hit start during a game you cant exit the game or access the options. Overall this game confused me more than it amused me!

This game [stinks]!!!

This game has a horrible glich that doesn't let you hit. Even if you put it on auto aim you can't tell what pitch it is because you can't swing late. You have to swing the bat right when the ball is relesed from the pitcher's hand. Don't play this game or buy it

very annoying

This game is graphically impressive with a very good presentation. Unfortunately, the game play leaves much to be desired. The batting is far too difficult and the number of fielding errors made is very annoying. There is also a delay when trying to advance base runners which results in way too many unneccessary pick offs and throw outs. Base runners constantly get caught like idiots between bases. Don't buy this game.

Game has some serious problems and Acclaim does not care

I was very much looking forward to receiving this game based on reviews of the play. I love baseball and really wanted to find a realistic baseball game. Sadly, this game is not the game I thought it would be. Indeed, this game also has some serious technical problems that Acclaim does not seem to care about. First of all the problems- 1)When pitching on a count that is less than a full count, the batter fouls off the ball and yet the batter is out. What?! This is frustrating and annoying. The announcers say "foul ball" and yet the batter sits down and you are charged with an out. 2) In a run down between two bases, if the baserunner gets within 3-4 feet of the player with the ball, you are called out. Ridiculous- there is a substantial amount of space in between the players, yet, the runner is out. Here are the game play problems I have found- 1) The batter lines the ball out to the pitcher AT LEAST 6-8 times a game. This rarely happens in a real baseball game. 2) Home Runs are WAY too easy to hit. It is not unusual to hit 6-10 home runs a game, even on All Star level. So far, I have had games of 18-16, 22-19, 21-17. This can be fun for awhile yet, sometimes the batter even BREAKS HIS BAT and hits a home run! How can this be?! To top it all off and make matters worse, I have tried to contact Acclaim electronic sports and they have refused to respond or even try to give me some satisfaction. I emailed them twice with my complaints and received no response. I then called their customer line (not even a toll free call!)and after I was on hold for quite awhile, I was told a "game consultant" would call me back within 20 minutes. Again, no return phone call, no response. They are definitely portraying an "we don't care" attitude. For my money, I would never buy a game from Acclaim again if this is the way they treat customers.

In summary, do not buy this game. It will only make you angry with all the technical problems that it has.

this game is the worse baseball game i ever played. the graphics are good, but the gameplay, mainly batting, is impossible. you have to guess where the pitch is before you swing, and their arent special pitches or anything. if you want to buy a sweet game 4 people who wanna sit down & start hittin homers, get mlb slugfest 20-04.

I bought this game the day it was release in great anticipation of a great baseball game. I was sorely disappointed. Unless you have the reflexes of Mr. Miagi from Karate Kid, you can't get a hit. Even when you switch it to easy batting, you can't get a quality hit for anything. It has great features, and neat things to play around on, but the gameplay is for the birds. Go out and buy High Heat 2004 or even better MVP 2004. They are much better.
