Great Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 2

i loved asb 2003 so i decided to get the new 2004 version, and i was not disapointed. in the beggining it is somewhat more difficult than the last game... hitting is a little bit more challenging. The best part of the game is franchise mode... very in depth. I can't tell you how much fun it is being the GM of your own team in this game. Also, creating players is great. There are over 570 faces to choose from... just an example of the detail in this game. The graphics are excellent and the special features are incredible, stadium tours etc. Playing is fun as well, it is one of the few baseball games where pitching is as enjoyable as hitting. There are a few glitches in the game, however. For instance, in my franchise right now i am in the off-season of my 19th year, yet for some reason i can't go to spring training. Also, if you save halfway into a game and load it again ure in trouble. Either your or the other team's pitcher has regained all of his stamina and sometimes and game just freezes. All in all it is still the best baseball for the PS2 i have ever played.

This Game Rocks!

...this game truely does rock, the gameplay is outstanding, i would say the graphics are the same as 2003, but again the graphics were good in that. The rosters are pretty much updated but again, it's only spring training now in real life and alot of these guys won't be on the roster. And i think adding alot more hall of famers was a good idea too...

Great Game! Best Game Ever

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 2

First i am going to start off by saying that ASB 2004 is the best game ever. Like that other guy said you can take a tour on [url]. The tour is reall easy to use and it is like you are acullay playing the game.
Now for the game itself. In ASB 2003 the graphics are good but in the 2004 editon it looks like you are standing toe to toe with the person. The game modes are incredible. They have the new stadium tour witch has Derek Jeter himself tells you about each stadium in the MLB. Next is the Expansion mode, in this edion unlike in 2003 you can choose your teams name by choosing one of the maskotts. What i mean is is that they show you the masksott itself. The franchise mode lets you choose any team and take them up to i think 20 seasons with retired players and free agents. There are so many other features that i can't tell you because there is so many of them but one feature has improved and thats the creat-a-player mode.
I hope you have this review helpful and you should bye this game when it comes out or preorder it like i did.

Acclaim tried a little too hard

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 0 / 0

Acclaims latest try at a baseball is nothing great or even average. The game had plenty of bonus features and special teams, cards etc. but misses on basic pieces to sports games that make them fun. Acclaim has always been somewhat of an overacheiver when it comes to games. They always seem to focus on one or two things and then miss the simple basic elements to a game that make them fun. The reason why many of us bought SNES and Genesis games when we were younger was not because they were realistic and full of features but because they were so basic that they were fun and exciting. SImply put ASB2004 is not exciting or fun, but becomes quite boring at times and makes you want to take it back to the store you got it from. There are plenty of other baseball games out there to fill your needs, this isnt one of them.

ASB 2004 is weak in one particular area that bugs me. The gameplay. While the chracter faces are done very good. The bodies have no texture to them, abd the physics in the game are very much laughable at. Sometimes when a great diving catch was done you may see it in instant replay. However when you see it, the outfielder or infielder may be 5 feet from the ball but somehow someway they are able to rob you of a great bloop single or a supposed to be double. This bothered me alot. It seemed like every hit i got was robbed from me and in a split second I could find myself looking at no hitter in favor of the cpu. Another bad thing about the game is the franchise mode can be a little annoying. Lets say you happen to lose a player to an injury and you want to add a minor leauger onto the roster. It can be very tiring just to add a minor leauger onto your team. Not to mention the fact that you have to add a new free agent to your team. Now this all may seem easy but trust me it's not. You will constantly be told that you have one too many player on the 40 man roster. You take that free agent off the team and now you have one too many! Ugh this got me mad enough to turn off my ps2 and go play something else. The only way to avoid this is taking injuries off or letting the cpu do it for you. Unfortuantley if ou let the cpu do it for you they most likely will change up the roster. Like if you had an AL team with a DH the DH may be changed because hes not hitting as well as a bench warmer when in reality you want the bad DH to hit so he can get experience. Or if you have 2 good 2nd basemen one lefty, one righty you may want to have the lefty to go up against right handed pitchers and the rightys vice-versa. All of this can be changed if you let cpu do things for you. It becomes very tiring and very boring at times.

Even though ASB 2004 has its annoying moments it does shine at times. The commentary is done well, there aren't alot of repeats whisch is great. The special features are also excellent, there's plenty to do (it'd be even better if the gameplay was better but oh well) if you dont feel like playing a whole game or going into franchise mode. Sceanario mode is very good giving you actual games to change like a game where Piazza went 0-4 and his mets lost after being in a 4-4 tie, change that by getting the mets a win.

All in all ASB 2004 is very much worth a rent but not a buy. Try it out though (especially those who have been into the franchise for a long time.) It's not exactly a bad game just game that needs alot of tweaking.

Play it if you like pitching so much.

This game left me extremely dissapointed. I thought that it might be a little better than the horrible 03 but its pretty much the same. The bad thing about this game is how it's almost impossible tro hit the ball. Oh yeah maybe the guess the pitch option (which stinks) might help if you know how to use it. How are they going to expect you ti hit the ball when it comes in 95 and you still have to get the batting triangle from the middle to the top or bottom.

Not to say that it is a bad game completely (which it still is) because the graphics sre actuallt the best in the buissness.

When is it gonna be the time when ASB is going to come out with a game that is fun to play like the great and I meen great ASB 01. Make the game like that and with the advanced graphics and you"ll actually have a game that will sell.

just pick it up and play ball

I've been looking for a readily playable baseball disk to just pop in the player and run with. This game allows you to do that. You have to time your hits to get the best results, and the pitcher's control becomes harder the more tired he gets. Simply incredible.

The rosters are fairly up to date (thru January of this year), and trading & creating players can become a bit tricky. Neither does it feature online gameplay (not a problem for me). So I can't give it five stars, but it's a strong four. I really, really, really suggest getting this game.

The BEST BASEBALL GAME SO FAR

Overall Enjoyable, minor issues

I am a basesball fan and when the 2003 baseball lineup came out, I knew that I was going to buy this game. I enjoyed playing ASB 2003, and I knew that 2004's edition would have improvements. The graphics are nice, and the announcers are as well. The franchise is pretty detailed even allowing you to play a dozen or so spring training games, the only problem is the shotty AI, and some game crashes. Also some calls the umpires make are unreal and don't make much sense.

Overall this is a good game, and if you enjoy watching baseball, and are a fan, get this game, or wait until ASB 2005 which I'm sure is even better.

A good game with few flaws

The all star seiries is one of the more enjoyable I have played, the expansion/franchise mode is exceptionally enjoyable. However it does have its flaws. While the pitching is better than most games the hitting is worse, it seems the balls take paths and always end up in the same places, 90% of the time in a feilders glove, hitting homers is fun and easy in this game as well.Overall a good game but the gameplay could have been improved.

2003 WAS A LOT BETTER

I can't believe there are some people who give this game 5 stars. I have played ASB games for years now and 2003 is the best one yet. What did they do with the camera angle? How about the lousy frame rate? How about catching the ball 3 feet from your glove? No, no, no, this game is NOT 5 STARS, do not confuse consumers please! It has cool things like mound visits and pitcher worm ups but the gameplay sucks. Baseball is about pitcher versus batter duel. THERE IS NO SUCH THING IN THIS GAME. If you want a pitcher-batter duel get MVP 2003. The gameplay is fast but at least you get to pitch like a pro.
