not quite as good as the hype but still very good. two things that bothered me. one, you cant port your single player character into battle net. and two the game gets boring since all the maps are huge and you could be searching for hours for an exit only to be killed while right infront of it because there are unique monsters guarding it. some monster have really cheap moves too, like fireballs that track you. its great to play on line but as single player game its kinda weak.

what can I say, ever since the game came out I have spent every spare momement playing this game, I was a huge fan of the original, must have beaten it like 5 or 6 times and Diablo 2 basically Improved all the things about diablo 1 and more. The 5 new classes are great, every character with their own unique playing style, skills, and stratagies make for a customizable character and game play. The loads of armor and rare and unique items that most have different artwork for each character for each class of armor. Sure the graphics are a bit dated within the first couple of acts but they a bit better in the later level, besides its not the graphics that make the game because you stop paying attention to them after about 2 hours. Diablo 2 also fixed the problem with diablo 1 where instead of only letting the sorcerer could use magic they made skills which are each customize to benifit that specific character, like barbs have skills that benifit his swords or whatever weapon hes using while a sorceress skills revolve around useing spells. Diablo 2 also fixed the online game play terror from diablo 1, where it was a cheat fest with Bnet closed servers which saves your files onto blizzards computer which justifys the fact that you cant save the game at any given point and take off from there, its really not even that annoying once you get used to it. Diablo 2 also improved the dull dungeons from diablo 1 with 4 different types of landscape, one for each act which really pleased me. Online gameplay is really fun as well, because you can trade and get more exp and talk with other people. The only things I dislike about diablo are: Character classes are slightly uneven, Barbarians and Necromancers seem to have an edge over all the other classes. Bnets down time, its annoying logging on and not being able to play for a few hours, although Im sure they will fix this problem soon. Slightly dated graphics, but that doesnt bug me that much. and heres the kicker, you need alot of ram to play smoothly, I have 64megs and when I near a large hord of monsters my computer sometimes starts getting about 1 frame every 3 seconds and Im dead, but Im going to get more soon I hope. Other than that this is a great game. One last thing, dont compare this game to baulders gate, I bought BG played it, beat it, loved it but Diablo 2 and Baulders Gate are two completley different games and you have to take each one for what it is.

Lots of fun and variety

With this sequel, Blizzard has kept everything that I liked about the original, and reworked and improved most of the things I disliked about the original.

Probably the best thing about this game is the new selection of characters and the skill system. With the Amazon, will you focus on close combat with jabbing weapons (and some ranged attacks from throwing them) or will you go for all ranged attacks with bow and crossbow? Will your Necromancer specialize in summoning many undead and other monsters to do his dirty work for him, or will he take more of a direct role by using curse spells on his enemies? Every character class faces lots of choices like these, which to me really boosts the replay value.

Some people have complained of technical glitches. I have found Diablo II to be one of the smoothest, least buggy games I've played. Zero problems so far. I don't doubt that these other folks have had problems, but my experience has been different.

Some people complain that the quests require no thought to solve. They're right, but I don't think the quests are intended to be puzzles. They help link the action into the backstory, and they provide some variety and build suspense (is Andariel on this level? how hard is she going to be?).

Being able to hire followers (or summon them if you're playing a Necromancer) is very cool. They're pretty smart about staying with you, way more useful than the sidekicks in Daikatana or the golems from Diablo.

Some people have complained that it's too much like the original Diablo. Well, duh, excuse me, this is a sequel, folks. If you didn't like the original, you probably won't care for this game either. One reviewer complained about spending too much time chasing down monsters that ran from him. To that, I say two things. First, most of the monsters are very in-your-face and try to swarm you, except for the ones with ranged attacks which very smartly try to keep their distance. Second, that guy must not be very good at the game - you have to be able to deal with ranged combat situations as well as close combat, you have to work the terrain to your advantage. Sounds like that guy got unhappy as soon as his only strategy hit a spot where it didn't work.

There are a few things I wish I had done better. I do wish that they could have improved the graphics resolution, at least optionally for those of us with high end machines.

Using way stations and town portals is a little unnatural. The way stations are like permanent town portals in specific places, but if you use them to travel, the monsters in that area repopulate. Town portal spells, meanwhile, don't persist when you save and quit; and quitting while out in the wilderness drops you back in town/camp. This makes it so there are times when I'd like to take a break or need to shut down the game, but I'm reluctant to. Restarting from the saved game would involve fighting my way through areas I've already done, so sometimes I wind up pausing the game for hours until I can get back to it. This is silly to make us jump through hoops like that.

Great game

This is one addictive game. I loved this game as soon as I started playing. Having waited so long for the sequel to Diablo, one of my all time favorites, I was not disappointed. The play control is easy to manage, the inventory is convenient, and the online games are great. Heartily recommended.

This game has extremely addictive gameplay. I just can't stop playing it. As soon as I beat Diablo with one character, I start a new game with another. With 5 character classes and each having 30 different skills you have unlimited gaming experience. Since playing with each character is like a new game. You can even play with the same character twice and find the game completely different if you develop differnet skills. For example you can develop the bow skills or the javelin skills and find the game completely different in both cases. This game also doesn't need very powerful system. I recommend this game for anyone.

Diablo 2 is much better than the original diablo. Your charactors change looks (armor) for every different type you use and same with the weapons and shields. you can also trade online with other players without having to drop items on the ground. You have a choice of whether you want to run or not and if you have ever had trouble in diablo 1 getting spells...well in Diablo 2 things have changed. Every level you get to choose 1 skill/spell from 30 different ones on a skill "tree" along with your 5 stat points(every charactor has their own unique group of skills). There are also 4 different areas/acts which are made up of about 10-15 smaller areas. Diablo 2 is my favorite game I own. I would recommend this game for you especially if you are a big fan of diablo 1!

Good, but still need some improvements...

As many people, I am a fan of Diablo, I played this game for months and for months, without being bored. When I heard of Diablo II, before it was released, I really thought this would be much better because I heard of the fact that you can go through different cities, that you would fight the Three Brothers (Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto). This was a great idea from Blizzard entertainement. Anyway, here is my opinion about this good game: Good points:

1. the variety of NPC is a very good idea, and their differences (except for the spells, which I am gonna talk about later) are very well chosen, just like in the first Diablo.

2. the idea of having different towns was essential: when I used to play to Diablo I, I always thought that it would be much better if I could discover more places than just Tristram.

3. the story is fantastic, and the intervention of some characters in the story was really exciting (I don't need to say the names, you will discover them in the game). Sometimes, when you interact with the people in the villages, you really think you are with them :).

4. the cinematic are beautiful: they are long and the graphism are incredible; this is an important point in this game. I can give much more good points but these ae the most important...

Bad points:

1. the graphism: when I began to play Diablo II for the first time, frankly the first thing I noticed was that the graphism weren't that good; sometimes i even think that in the classic Diablo they were better. In fact it is the graphism of the context that aren't good; the NPCs are very well drawn, but the places you explore are not well drawn (the same for the monsters, I think they could have been better).

2. the spells: in Diablo II, each character has his own spells; this is a good idea; however, the variety of the spells is not wide enough for each character: the barbarian has almost all his spells based on strenght, and nothing based on fire or lightning or something like that (approximately the same for the paladin). What you finally do is using only the 4 or 5 most interesting spells over the 20 or 25 you have.

3. the fights: this is a very important point : when you play the classic Diablo, you feel a real tension, stress and suspense (for an exemple against the Butcher, or against Lazarus; I was sometimes almost scared ^_^). This is what misses in Diablo II; I don't know why this happens, maybe the creatures are not as scary as in the first Diablo, maybe it is the context which isn't dark enough. The game is also not hard enough.

My conclusion is that this game is really good, it is one of the best in Role Playing Games, and I highly recommend it because you will have a very good time; but Blizzard did not meet his goal in creating a better game than the first version: Diablo is better than Diablo II.

Now check it and take it from the penguin up south, single player is horible and boring. Then you got Bnet online play. THATS WHERE THE MONEY GOES. I mean if u only know the thrill you get when your fighting a boss with 3 other ppl on ur side 50 levels more then you. Its especially cool with all the magic and seeing the armor and weapons you actually equipt. Now, im thinking it will be another quake 3 arena for me, ill get tire of it sooner or later. SO FAR THOUGH...its very fun ONLINE... so u might as well not waste 1.5 GB on the full version(both single and multiplayer) and just install the multiplayer(online)
THE PENGUIN SPEAKS!(u better pick either the sorceress or the barbarian in this game or ill....)
