The first of the series on PS was amazing I remember actually trying various techniques until I had finally managed to rip the intro movie and music onto my pc. Then came the second and it took the whole game to a new level keeping the same great playability.
This last installement is even better, the XBox simply has the best graphics engine out there. The game is not the most beautiful ever made but for a fighting game it's above norms. The action is fast paced and easy to get into. The controls are simple but the arsenal of special moves will keep you playing and learnign for a long time. The music is perfectly suited and multiplayer fights will keep you glued to your screen from dusk till dawn.
It's simply the best fighting game available and the Xbox Port is definatley the best.

SC2 is one of the most perfect game on any game console to date ( the only other game I had more fun playing was HALO..naturally).
Someone here mentioned that Spawn was not a good choice for X Box version ( please get your eyes and hands checked since you can't play him). Spawn has one of the best combos, weapons and agility, not only in Soul Calibur but compare toany other hand to hand combat games.
(may I mention the abomination, mid air combos and green fire ball)...he is one character I am glad to see that X Box chose than anybody else to be part of SC2.

SC2 on X Box is a must buy, can't wait for SC3 :)

First off i own the first SC for the dreamcast so i don't wanna hear all this "Go play the first one its better" crap and i use to play it all the time in the arcades i think it was called Soul Fighter or Soul Edge or something but anyways, I know the DC version is better but SC II is still an awesome game. The graphics are beefed up(more detail in fighters) an its got a lot more unlockable stuff(Weapon master). It'll keep you busy for awhile. There are some old characters and some new ones and even old characters with new bodies(Hwang--Yun Sung), so there is something for everybody. But back on track. If you liked the first one or are in the market for a good good fighter, look no further. SC II is the best your gonna get. This game slaughters every fighting game out there. I'm a diehard tekken fan but after playing SC and now SC II i can never get the same feeling of joy when i pummel someone or do some outrageous throw. Trust me if you buy this game you won't be disappointed and you will never play any fighting game that matches SC. Its just that perfect.

HDTV and the dark phantom make for the best Xbox fighter

Xbox fighting game fans really don't have many options when it comes to decent fighting games. DOA3 is several years old now, the MKA craze seems to be dying down and the god awful KC has thankfully disappeared without a trace (and do I need mention Tao Feng?). Now there is SC2, the sequel to the greatest DC fighting game of all time, and a revolutionary game that started the new millenium off with a bang. While the sequel isn't ground breaking like the original, it has managed to keep with the times and offer still competition for the like of VFE and T4. The Xbox version has two things that make this version hands down my choice of the three: high definition comp. and Spawn! The graphics are mind blowing. Mind numbingly detailed warriors move through your tv screen with the greatest of ease with the huge fighting arenas are in themselves a sight to behold. The sound department isn't as intense, with pretty generic fighting tunes along with a slew of badly spoken dialogue by each of the fighters. Gameplay has been improved 100%. Controls are much tighter and characters are more balanced. Old fans rejoice, as this game is in no way a button smash fest. In order to succeed through the game properly you'll actually have to master your chosen fighter; and there is no better place to do that then in the enhanced mission mode. Ah the mission mode, a staple for the series since the very first Soul Blade on PSone. Not only can you unlock stuff like artwork and game modes, you now have to traverse this mode to unlock hidden characters and new weapons! Fighting games are becoming a bit harder to come by now a days, but SC2 will satiate your appetite to lock swords (or claws, or um...evil orbs ;) for a VERY long time. A must have. McFarlane fans know which version they sould get :)

I could go on and on about how much I love this game but I'm not going to. It's so engaging, you can unlock loads of stuff, there's so many things to be found, the story is wonderful. All in all it's pretty much a flawless game. I love it.

Definitely recommended and a must have for fighting game fans.

The Soul series continues to redefine the fighting game genre

Now in its third incarnation, Namco's Soul series of fighting games continues to set new standards for the genre. Soul Calibur II, while not making as dramatic a leap in visuals and technology as seen between the first two games, is still holding its place as the definitive 3D fighter. Sega's Virtua Fighter 4 offers some solid competition, but Calibur's implementation of weapons combat and plethora of gameplay modes gives it the edge.

Each of the Soul games has originated in the arcades, and every time they're ported to home consoles, Namco includes enough new features to justify a purchase even by someone who has already spent $50 in quarters. In Soul Calibur II, we see the return of the sorely missed Weapon Master Mode. For those newly introduced to the series, the weapon master mode sends the player through a lengthy series of challenges, testing not only their ability to best their opponent in combat, but to do so while overcoming adverse conditions. For example, the enemy may be given a boost in speed, or you may be able to win the fight only by knocking them out of the ring. While this may seem frivolous, it truly gauges the player's mastery of the many different aspects of gameplay.

Another key addition to the home versions of SC2 is multiple bonus characters. Returning from the first two games are Sophitia, Seung Mina, Lizardman, and end boss Inferno, joined by Necrid, Berserker, and Assassin. Also, exclusive to each version of the game is a cameo character from another franchise. Tekken's Heihachi joins the PS2 cast, Todd McFarlane's Spawn appears in on Xbox, and the legendary Link of Zelda fame completes the Gamecube roster.

In this respect, the Gamecube received the better deal, as Link is easily one of the best (and cheapest) characters in the game. Meanwhile, PS2 wins in the controls department, beating both the awkward Gamecube and oversized Xbox pads. Lastly, Xbox has a slight advantage in terms of graphics. Whatever version you choose, however, you're in for a spectacular experience, as Namco again proves to be the master of 3D fighter design.

Best Fighting game... EVER!

Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast was awesome, and so is this one! I can't wait for Soul Calibur 4 on Xbox 360 in 2008!
