The Very Beginning of a True Party!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

The days when people said, "We're having a Party, A Mario Party..." Seems to be long past. When this game first came out, it seemed to be the only thing people talked about. Yet today, with 5 Mario Parties in the collection, this one still is wonderful for being the base roots.

Just like any of the other Mario Parties, you choose which character you'd like to be, Mario, Luigi, ect. The object of the game is to go around the board and collect Stars. Stars come at a price, 20 coins. To get 20 coins, you must win mini games or land on blue spots. This is like an advanced board game for the N64, but with a twist. In addition to the board game aspect of this game, after everyone takes 1 turn a mini game takes place.

Competitions in this mini game include:
Everyone against eachother
1 Vs 3
2 Vs 2

This is where the intense fun comes on. You and your friends button smash, spin the analog stick to your hearts content. As a matter of fact, so much button smashing (fast taps on the buttons)takes place that gloves came out for this game to protect your hand. Be warned, if you're too competitive with this particular Mario Party, you may wind up with a blistered palm or sore fingers.

It's overall pure fun. Games can last for hours and hours if you really want. Though playing a board game on a console sounds dull, this game completely opposite of that!

If you want a great N64 game...this is a must buy.
If you are interested in this game, but don't want to play an older console anymore or don't have a N64, I recommend Mario Party 4 and 5 for the Nintendo Gamecube. Exceptionally fun, with quite a bit less dangerous button smashing.

I like all the differnt lands.it is fun to play.

First, you get to pick your character,(Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, or Peach,)and the computer's character. Then you choose your land. Then you pretty much play from there. All in all, it's a pretty good game.

Not that great

Mario Party could have been a great game if it was just eaiser. The computer always wins, and my brother got a blister on the tug-a-war mini-game. The game takes forever, so unless you having a sleepover, you really don't want to get it. DON'T BUY THIS GAME. RENT IT FOR A BRITHDAY PARTY. I did give it 2 stars however, because some of the mini-games were fun, and the game is a good party game, but stinks as a one-player game.

Great Game

At first I didnt like this game, then I got into it. It's like an electic boardgame. The one thing I hate is playing against the consol. Always play with four real people.

The best MARIO PARTY on the 64

I've had this game basically since it launched in 2000. I must say, the graphics are rather impressive for an N64 game, and the gameplay is great. The minigames are fun, especially when playing with other people. The only real problem I had with this game is how it didn't last long at all. It has about 100-150 mini games, but you can easily beat the game and unlock them all within about a week of good playing time.

Not quite what I expected

It's basically an electronic board game. I expected more of a bunch of little games that you could play against your friends. It does have some little games, but those games are not the type to play over and over again. It wasn't bad, but not as entertaining as I hoped.

An extremely poor game. Very hard on your controllers. The spinning of the joysticks in some of the mini-games makes the joysticks loose and un-responsive. Buy at your own risk.

A great game!

This is a great game! It is packed w/ action and fun, not to mention the cool graphics. It is a great game to just sit pack w/ a couple friends and have a fun time! I strongly recommend this video game to everybody who owns a nintendo64!

First of all Mario Party is the best multiplayer I ever played. This game is great when you have a lot of guests at your house. The game is great for all ages. Mario Party is a very interesting game that is a game that has mini games in it. But this game has some bad parts. The bad part is that sometimes you have to rotate the control stick and then you may get blisters on your hands and a broken controller (just like me) from all the rotation. But all I have to say is that the pain and money is worth the fun.

This is one of my favorite Nintendo 64 games!

Mario Party is a really good game for Nintendo 64! It is fun, and enjoyable for all ages. There are many characters to choose from, lots of minigames, fun board games, a fun solo-player game too. At first, it may seem a like a little too much is happening too fast, but afterwards, someone can easily get used to the game. This game is a must and if you are planning to get a Nintendo 64 game, this is the one.
