Whether playing the heroic Albions, the warfaring Midgardians, or the magical Hibernians, this game is sure to please all MMORPG players. From realm vs. realm combat to dungeon crawls, to relic theft and infiltration of enemy castles this game appeals to all types. There's a little bit for everybody. I rate it 5 stars. Check it out!

I played EQ for about 3 months this summer, and then my friend who introduced me to it was a Beta tester for DAoC, and tol me to buy it. Being the RPG lover that I am, I obeyed and have been playing it. Graphically? EQ can't compare, unless the new expansion (which I've not yet seen) does some SERIOUS overhaul and redoes the 3D system. Spell graphics are better, movement is better, etc. Game plot/social set up? I would put EQ ahead, I think. For instance, the thing that came to me first was the automatic ability in DAoC to swim. EQ you had to learn it as a skill (that was the first way *I* died, in fact). I liked the inventory setup better, the more limited space you had. I think in DAoC it's about 40 items (give or take a few depending on weight) that you can hold, which seems unrealistic. All in all? They're both great, I now own both with the new EQ expansion on the way. If only the two of them could combine somehow to create the EQ plot with the better DAoC graphics. My opinion: Buy this game, and if you have the money buy EQ as well.

The most amazing game I've ever played!

From begging to end, it was by far the best game I've ever played. The only reason I stopped playing was the fee of around 12 dollars a month. Being a 13 year old it's very hard to scrounge up the money. So now I've returned the game and I'm regretting it so bad! In DAoC you are a Hibernian, Midgard, or Albain. There are all types of races, skills, and abilitys that you can choose from to create your character. You start out as a lvl 1, then as you grow about to lvl 5 you choose a class you want to be, from fighter to pladin, rouge to scout, etc... then at lvl 10 you get to choose a last name, for instance my name was Chubbss, then, I added my last name, Chubbss Timestwo! Catchy huh. It gets better though, at lvl 15 you can now interact with other characters from other realms, by fighting them in a speacily made world for this type of thing.. to Albians, it is like hunting moose... haha. Then at lvl 20 if you are in a guild you get a guild embelem, that is somthing that show you are part of that guild. As you progress with your character you learn chants, spells, abilatys, all things that can help you be the ultimante (whatever class you are). There are other things you can do in the game also that I'm not quite sure many of the other reviews have mentioned... one is getting married. Just some little fun thing that they decided to put in.. don't ask me;). Another is dueling. You can duel with characters of your realm by typeing /duel /duel accept or somthing like that, you don't lose xp or gain xp, it's just a fun little thing like weddings haha. If your reading this review right now than let me tell you this, BUY THIS GAME!!! It's the most exciting RPG you can find. Better than SWG anyday! Ignore the people who say this game isn't the best because it is, and definatly deserves the gamers award for best game of the year, which it got! So there ya have it, hope you like this game as much as I do!

If you enjoy paying to play a poor beta then this is your game. DAoC has virtually no high end PvE content. RvR is broken. Mythic has isolated themselves from their customer base, probably in large part because of all the frustrated bulletin board postings regarding this game. At least one third of the classes in every realm need major work done to them, with all classes needing some work. Basically, once you get past the eye candy of a new game and really get down to playing it, you realize that this game simply was not ready for retail release. On top of that, Mythic is already discussing their upcoming expansion pack!! I'm amazed that they can say that with a straight face. Save yourself a few dollars and don't buy this game. I certainly wish I hadn't.

Though the game was quite addicting at first (Levels 1-20), it then began to loose some of its uniques as you spend most of your time leveling at an extremely slow pace. The quests are a tad bit on the lean side. After you reach level 50 the game looses much of its appeal as you cant level any higher. The main problem i had with the game is there was no purpose for your character. Sure you had quests but after you finsih them all whats next? wandering around killing people. Not my idea of fun.

DAoC Take it from me

Bottom line is DAoC is a great game. I've playd AC, AC2, and DAoC and after the initial shock I am liking DAoC much better. The only drawback to the game is that the game doesn't REALLY get started untill you reach lvl 20, or at least lvl 10. Nice graphics, good character creation, cool spells and combat moves. If your a online RPG fan this is your game. Have fun.

I bought this game because frankly I was looking for a MMORPG but I didn't know where to look. I was in CompUSA at the time and I asked the guy for his reccomendation. He said Ultima Online which I looked at and it said no XP support, so I looked on. Next, random people that were passing said that Dark Age of Camelot was one of the best so I picked it up.

At first I thought the game was basically the same as what I saw from my limited time at Everquest. That being a convulted interface and extrememely large learning curve. So I uninstalled the game. However, one of my friends wanted to see it and I reinstalled it and picked a different character on a co-op server and was blown away. Once you get past the inital problems and issues with the interface the game seems to open up.

Now, I'm only level 4 but from what I've seen I'll probably stick with this game. At least until World of Warcraft from Blizzard comes out.

High level RvR game not for the casual player

DAOC isn't for the casual player if your aim is to play in RvR outside of the Battlegrounds.

First of all, you have to level to 50. Even a level 46-48 doesn't have much of a chance against a level 50 character because levels matter a great deal in the game.

Second, you have to get spellcrafted armor and maximize your resists. Otherwise you're just roadkill for the hardcore players in DAOC.

Third, you have to get yourself a SECOND account (yes you heard correctly) and level up what's contemptuously referred to as a "buffbot" Buffbots is one of DAOC's biggest problems. The term is used to describe a buffing class that's usually maximized in it's buffing capacity and is usually left at the user's realm portal keep since most buffs do not have a range limit and you cannot touch their buffbots inside their realm portal keep. There is a HUGE difference between a buffbotted player and a unbuffbotted player - the buffbot user will win 100% of the time. Yes, 100% of the time.

Fourth, There's still the Realm Ability rat race. In order to even be competitive, you also need to gain realm points to buy "Realm Abilities" which range from the powerful such as Bunker of Faith" to the broken such as "Mastery of Arms" Yep, some of the Realm Abilities are still broken to this day - much to Mythic's embarassment.

And lastly, if you consider yourself a casual player, don't count on the game being fun at the high end RvR for you although the lower level "battlegrounds" might allow you to be more competitive in RvR, but like "real" RvR, the battlegrounds also have their fair share of buffbotted players who'll simply step on your character like the proverbial roach if you don't have your own buffbot.

And lastly, not all the classes are balanced which is probably a major understatement.

Caveat Emptor on this game.

Thoughts after day one

I enjoy it very much so far.

By the way as someone who played(or not as the case maybe) EQ, AC, and AO on their first day, Dark age of Camelot has had an amazingly stable launch.

Rough idea with DAoC is all all players on server pick one of three realms.
Albion:English, Hibernia:Celtic, Midgard:Viking
The main focus of the game is to have the players of these 3 realms fight with each other. This isn't sane until you reach a lowish middle level ~20 (level cap is 50 currently). The game has large quests, usually made up of 3 or more steps, and small quests, task they are called which a single step. It features crafting which is in not depentant on character level, and is very anti Carpal Tunnel (Crafting skills depentant on having items in bulk, using skills on timers). Still little problems on thier launch day, bigest one being none of the thief classes are actually complete.

I purchased this game when it first hit the shelves. What a mistake. I loaded the game on my computer and a week later removed it. If you are a EQ fanatic. Stay with EQ. Don't waste your time with this one.
