I have played UO and Daoc and beta tested Eve online. Daoc in my opinion is the best current RPG available. I hear in the gaming community VERY little complaints about this game.
Ive played Daoc for a year and a half. shortly after beta on the american servers as i had to order the game from america as im british. This game has extremely smooth graphics. ive not found much in the way of graphical issues at all since i started playing. I run on a gerforce4MX. The ONLY problem i have sometimes is enlargement of world objects which only happens as i begin to get slowdown in graphics from loading huge battles. which is no big issue. just requires a 30 second reboot of the game. The static graphics in the inventory which update the characters avatar not updating is the only graphical issue. i cannot currently correct this. I dont recommend geforce cards for great graphics like this anyways. apparantly they dont work as well.
Gameplay is somewhat weak nearer level 50. it took a LONG time because of the class i chose and my time zone (and laziness :P) to level my character. My character is also widely agreed as needing improvements (the class) but most classes are customizable to a certain extent as you can specialise a certain line of spells or melee to attain certain spell types and combat damage types. (eg. a light specialised mentalist for direct damage spells. or a mana specialised mentalist for mana regeneration spells and others) the characters play solid roles in groups EXCEPT the stealther types. which have very little to offer groups. thus they have trouble grouping. the nature of these classes is very specialist anyways so requires quite some time and investment.
Tradeskills take quite a long time to raise to a high level. and from what i hear the rewards for this effort is lacking although they legendary gm (HIGH HIGH end tradesmen) are constantly in demand. so i would not be suprised if they were making a big profit. you can train in such things as alchemy. spellcraft (imbues armor with abilities) armorcraft, fletching, siegecraft.
The RVR is fun and although it can end pretty quickly. its a rush. large scale battles are a blast! unless you have slow modem and graphics then its just pure lag and gets annoying. You get the opportunity to take other realms keeps so you can eventually try for a realm relic. capturing these relics gives extra % of damage on top of that relics damage type (e.g 10% extra spell dmg for a power relic and 10% extra melee damage for a strength relic) These take a LOT of people (50+) and can be extremely fun and demanding.
This game is for the high end PC user who has time to burn. Overall this game in my opinion IS the best MMORPG currently available. the customer support is quite stable and they update the game info regularly on the site.
I strongly reccomend this game as a first MMORPG or your next.

This game is extremely boring. The graphics arent really that great, there are practically no sounds, all you do is hit things with weapons and get their stuff and do it over again, I get no fun out of it whatsoever. This game would be nowhere without EQ(Do not think I am biased to EQ I do not play it) it basically got all its ideas from it and added a little more. To me, it is just a total EQ clone, it would have never been created without the thoughts and ideas EQ had. My advice if you dont like plain old ordinary RPG games like this one is to wait for shadowbane to come out.

A lot of reviewers have written that this game is just EQ on steroids, but they're wrong... People who play EQ sit on the side of the fence of fighting boring AI or sitting around chatting. If you're from the world of PvP, this is definitely one to get, for those of you who play Lineage, this is Lineage except on a massive scale. The Realm versus Realm wars are incredible, with seige engines in 3D. It has better graphics than EQ and new features are being added all the time. There is also no "zoning" which can be a pain in EQ. Parties also share experience from the lowest to the highest level, unlike EQ where everyone camps around to fight one guy to get that item. The rogues are also MUCH more developed than any other MMORPG on the market, with the ability for stealth, backstab, mixed fighting styles, and some advanced rogue abilities that you should find out for yourself.
Very boring, Pvp is very unbalanced

This game in my opinion is terrible. Though I must admit it did have probably the most stable MMORPG launch of all time, that still doesnt fix the actual problems with the game. First off leveling in the game is rather easy, and I'm sure there already people that have achieved level 50. Second, pvp is supposed to be a big deal in the game, but because the classes are so unbalanced it makes most pvp battles unfair. The game also lacks in visual quality of the graphics. Yes the graphics are nice, but they definitely do not compare to Anarchy Online's graphics. This is just a wanna be Everquest, that failed in my opinion. If you want a good MMORPG I suggest Anarchy Online or Everquest.

I've had the great honor to beta test this game for almost a year and I can't say anything else than WOW! This game is so amazing! The RPG feeling is extreme! The game has all the wanted aspects.
The game is based on three different realms, Albion, Midgard and my personal favorite, Hibernia. All different realms has their own races and classes. There is really too much to write in here! I just give you the simple advice to BUY THIS GAME! And buy it quick! It rocks so much! ....
I am disappointed - expected more !

i might be one of the few people who is disappointed w/ DAoC, but i can exactly list WHAT i do not like in this game. Please note that i play this game now only for two days...and in case i missed something or my information is wrong then i am sorry :)
(*) DAoC renders in 16bit graphics. I dont have any idea what the advantage should be rendering 16bit instead of the usual 32bit...the result anyway is ugly graphics and textures. Eg. stand in front of a door and see there is NO smooth color transitions etc...
(*) All people in DAoC run/sprint....i have NOIT figured out yet how to just WALK. This gives the game a hectic and non-social feel. You cannot just walk...and/or talk with someone walking by because everyone seems in a hurry like they're stung by a bee !
Why the developers chose that - god knows !!!
(*) The graphics in general are 'ok' (see above). Could've been far, far better...but they're ok.....3d models are primitive..eg trees etc...and the terrain consists of blocks with textures glued on...my god i had that similiar graphics 5 years ago with tombraider already - and now we have 2000! !
(*) where in DAoC are the places where people just gather, talk...chat, have fun ? I didnt see any tavern or similiar.
Instead, everyone is like in the area killing and slashin animals, like wolves, snakes etc..for gaining experience points. Everyone has something 'important to do' (killing) - ant the social aspect (the real RPG feeling !) is totally missing !
(*) it may be fun to be in groups - and then go for monster killings...but as said above...i miss more social interaction and more of a RPG 'flair'.
(*) soundeffects....are more sparely and could be better too.
(*) server lags and disconnects
(*) even if it says 'one month free' on the packaging...you are asked for your name, address and credit card number before you even can play the first time...i think that's odd. <---
Sorry...had to say that....i have very high standards regarding graphics and flair - and i am a bit disappointed with that game.
Overall...however i think it's an 'ok' game...but w/ lots on the 'ToDO-list' if i were a developer !
One of the most dissapointing games of 2001

I haven't written many reviews, so this is more of a ramble the a review. Oh well.
Ugh. Thats all I have to say about this game. Ugh.
Ok, that doesn't tell you very much, so I'll explain:
This was gonna be my first MMORPG. I was going to get Anarchy Online, but the guys at the store suggested this instead, and having read good reviews, I got it. The only bigger mistake then buying it was losing the receipt so I couldn't return it.
Gameplay: It starts out nice. You register, choose one of 3 realms(Avalon, the realm with Camelot, with a balance between magic and fighting, Midgar, the Norse , more fighting focused realm, and Hibernia, the Elven magic realm). You choose from one of 4 races depending on the realm, and then from one of 4 basic classes. After 5th level, you can choose one of the sub classes of the class you choose. So I signed on. I was completely overwhelmed with the controls, but the help system was good, and I picked it up fast. I went out and slayed monsters, leveled up, got a quest(Kill 5 of these monsters, bring back their skins). Well to make a long story short, thats the whole game. You walk around, you kill things with an overly simple combat system(It has some magic and skills, but its basically hit the combat button, let your character automatically fight, and throw in some skills). You maybe get a fetch and carry quest every once in a while. And thats not even starting on the fact that it takes half an hour to get between towns. I give this a 4.
Graphics: Not bad. The textures are pretty good, though some things can be a little blocky, and have clipping problems. The animations are very smooth, and unique to each race and skill. I give this an 8.
Sound: To be completely honest, I don't remember a thing about the sound. It is totally in one ear and out the other. It fits the game, and nothing more. I give this a 6.
Value: The game isn't any fun, its currently $... in stores, and has a monthly fee(Between $... and $..., depending on how many months you sign up for). This game isn't any fun, so why would I pay a monthly fee for it? I give this a 2.
Overall score(Not an average):4. I really wish I could give this a better score. I really do. But I can't. Because this was probably the most disapointing game ever, for me. I was looking forward to my first MMORPG- instead I got a 3D Diablo II with a more boring combat system and long walks. Oh well...There's always Planetside, or Neocron...
Pointless, mindless, endless....

I got this game several months back because of all the rave reviews about it... and.. after a few days of updating my computers to the high standards of the game, I was finally able to enjoy it.
I played 17 characters in all, I hardly slept, and I was completely enthralled by the game for about a month, then I completely lost interest in it. Leveling your character becomes nearly impossible past lvl 20. Buying new equipment becomes tedious since you have to do it every other level, spend a fortune while you are at it, and you still look exactly the same. The monsters you fight are all the same models with different names and colors. The quests are boring and not thought out and a solid storyline is virtually nonexistent. There is no point whatsoever to this game besided leveling so that you can go get slaughtered in RvR where characters that can kill you by sending a glance in your direction prowld in the shadows... and even RvR (team PvP) gets boring because of all the nerfs strong classes are getting and all the buffs "weak" classes are getting. Some classes are completely pointless altogether in RvR and I was forced to delete them (such as the Spiritmaster, Blademaster, Mentalist, Mercenary... they have their upsides but their existence is pretty much meaningless).
Although I do not consider my money completely wasted on this game, I would suggest anyone who is thinking about buying this game to consider upcoming titles such as Shadowbane, Dungeon Siege, current classics such as Everquest, or some oldies like Baldur's Gate II.
Looks good

What started out as a fun and entertaining game has quickly turned into one of the worst run Role-Playing Games today. Clearly 1/3 of the description covered on the box HAS NOT BEEN DEVELOPED! Class imbalance, lack of content, lack of rule-enforcement, and really lack of goal has taken a game and driven it to it's knees.
When the game first came out, it was expected that a few things would have to finished over a short period, but after several months, the game is worse than when it first came out.
I would NOT recommend buying this game at this point. There are several other games on the market that do a much better job and are much more pleasant to play.
