Overall a good game with a few minor changes for next time

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 5

Overall, I found this game a lot of fun and a medium level of challenge. I will say up front that this game is not for younger gamers as the violence and language of the game is a bit extreme. Overall, the game was about what I expected from a third-person shooter. Here is the breakdown:

Good:
-Unique third person view: I found this really enhances the gameplay and gives you a better perspective of the battlefield.
-Graphics: Some of the best I have seen on the PSP.
-Gameplay: Not just a button-mashing shooter game. You must apply some strategy and thought to your tactics in order to win. Additionally, you must make battlefield decisions quickly since the enemy won't stop shooting at you just because you are thinking.

Bad:
-Controls: At some points it can be difficult to aim your weapon or line your character up to perform a task.
-Story: Being new to the Killzone series, I wished there was more explaination of the background of the game. It makes the game more engaging when you know where all the characters are coming from.
-Gameplay: While your soldier is ducking, he can't move. This can be frustrating when you are pinned down by the enemy. I hope for future versions they fix this as it forces you to break cover if you are trying to find a better firing position.

Just too darn hard

I loved Killzone on the PS2 and was excited to get a Killzone game for the PSP. Sadly, I find the difficulty level in this game to be too high. I have to replay some levels five or six times to get through. I do not find that kind of difficulty to be enjoyable. I find it frustrating and irritating.

If you're good at third person shooters maybe you'll breeze through this one. For myself, I think I'm going to put this game down and stick with first person shooters.

Good game but irritatingly difficult sometimes

This is a very fun game in general but the makers decided to make up for the otherwise very short game by making some parts needlessly difficult and completely annoying. Since you have to keep repeating to kill the last 2 bosses, you end up spending a lot of time "playing it".

Like the previous poster, a game shouldn't be too easy but it shouldn't be so hard, either, that makes it unenjoyable and irritating. It took me about 30 deaths (and tries) to kill one of the bosses. And, it's not just difficult, it takes about 10 minutes to fight the boss only to get killed in the last second which is completely aggravating.

I'm glad I borrowed this game. I know after I'm done with it, I'm not playing it ever again. I'm up to the point where I just wanna finish the game and move on to Metal Gear or Rainbow Six.

Good game but unfortunately, not fun.

Finally Another Great PSP Game.

Quickie out of 5:

Overall = 4.4

Do you know what Killzone is? No? Good.
If you do... forget it.

Killzone: Liberation is nothing like the PS2's Killzone other than the setting, the game has been changed completly for the better in almost everyway.

The graphics are good, albeit small on the small screen, but surprising in detail.

The sound is quite well done for a portable, with good sound effects like gunshots and explosions.

The view in this game is a sort of fixed isometric (ala diablo or fallout or Baulders Gate) which sounds like it wouldnt work but it does very well. The game auto-aims as long as your facing your enemy but you still have to be accountable for distance and recoil issues when firing, also theres a very natural movement aiming delay I.E. if your target is moveing their harder to hit.

I really think a lot about this game defies definition, yet at the same time playing it reminds me of some of the great on foot, shooting games off days long past like contra and such.

Certainly if the gameplay itself doesnt remind you of older games, the difficulty will! As probably one of the toughest games put out, this game might not be for those prone to throwing fits, but is exactly for those willing to work for it and earn their just rewards.

Great unlockables like mini-games, art, video, the kitchen sink, add in mutliplayer and co-op play... wow, Killzone: Liberation may of easily just saved the Killzone world from a horrible mediocore death.

If you like to shoot guns (in video games) and you own a PSP get this game, if you dont own a PSP, might be a good time to start thinking about it.

Frustrating and unfair, sadly

I could not wait to get this game in the mail, as the reviews seemed pretty good, but it does not live up to the hype. I really wanted to like it, but the targeting is so touchy that you basically have to run directly at the enemy to get a lock on them, exposing yourself in the open. Also there are too many times where an enemy is unseen offscreen, yet he sees you and kills you as soon as you get in his sight. Dying is way too easy with hidden land mines, grenades, and little "spider" mines that are impossible to outrun. You get a total of one weapon at a time and 2 grenades, and when there gone, you have to run back across half the map to find a locker, and oh, there happens to be another trap that wasn't there last time you passed by. Too frustrating to be fun for very long. Rent, don't buy.

Just a Tad Disappointed

The aiming controls could have been a lot better for this game and another thing, Why isnt this game in First-person like the original killzone?
If it was in first person, i would be a whole lot happier. Im only on level 4 on easy mode and i cant beat this part because the are helghan commandos and as tank shooting at me at the same time!
Maybe im not trying hard enough but the game could be a lot better!
There arent even Bots in multiplayer! I was awfully disappointed
But the parts that are actually beatable are pretty cool. It could have been a lot better! 3 stars

Fun to play but too easy to complete

I really did enjoy this game but the whole experiece took no more than 2 days to complete all situations, levels, and all collectible monies. I do realize that now I'm suppose to find other gamers to go online and connect with to get to other levels... but that is just not my situation. I purchased this entire system for long trips and filling dead time in a busy day. I would avoid this game if you are looking for a good, challenging, and fun sigle player game. I have no experience with the multi-player or the online versions, so will leave the honor of reviewing these sections to others. Hope this helps..

A great game with a few shortcomings

Ok I don't need to delve much into the good part of the game.

Goods:
1. Great graphics (For PSP platform)
2. Great sound
3. Loved the Third person over-the-top view, makes you more aware of the battlefield
4. Great use of having a limited ability feature (Makes you think and pick up the most suitable options)

Bads: (Reason I gave it 3 stars)
1. The game might prove to be a bit tough for non-seasoned gamers
2. The weapons are underpowered and the only time one can get the V2 versions of the weapons are when the game is nearing its end
3. The in-ability to move while crouching just leaves the player without cover specially when there is no AI player giving him cover fire
4. AI not all that great.
5. Cut scenes are a bit spotty
6. NO INFRASTRUCTURE MODE (Coming soon though!)

Improvements:

What I would like is a Republic commando type game play where you have a specialist squad which is inserted into enemy territory each having specific ability rather than a Rambo kinda approach where one guy is taking on an entire army. It's freakin absurd!!!!!

There should be an ability to kill silently. Right now all one can do and push the enemy around, how about a silent knife take down?

Ability to more undetected by employing a stealth meter kind of thing which would require the user to take cover and strike silently

More night time missions, should be great for infiltration kinda missions

Ability to cut through fences and putting up bobby traps

Difficulty should be increased in terms of the lethalness of the enemy bullets on the user rather than overwhelm him with dumb enemies... That's so 90..ish kinda approach.

Ability to call for back up or air strike

Pre-mission briefing should be enhanced to allow user to select his abilities rather than finding about them mid game.

Ability to upgrade weapons based on sub-missions completed rather than vektans collected. I mean which army in the galaxy asks its soldiers to collect money bags in order to provide them with better weapons??? This is just lame and a bad excuse to get away from the job of creating sub-missions and upgrading weapons based on experience earned.

Better cut scenes, even if it's an animated movie rather the full fledged 3D setup which when not done properly look lame.

I guess with these things incorporated, this would turn out to be a more satisfying experience.

Thanks.

Very good game - third person perspective takes some getting used to

This game is very different from the other shooters that are out there. As the description says, it is a "third person" perspective, so your character is basically in the middle of the screen and you are looking down on him. You are navigating your way through an alien-industrial warzone, fighting alien soldiers, avoiding mines (some that can chase you) and trying to rescue your allies. Your character is bascially out in the open, so you can get attacked from both sides at once.

The first level or two were very easy, then it started getting hard. I found it pretty frustrating until I learned to shoot then dodge, shoot then dodge. It takes some getting used to, but it is pretty cool once you get into it. It is good to play some of the challenge levels so that you can earn upgrades for your character (ability to carry more grenades, body armor, etc.).

Overall, a very good game. If you like shooters, you'll probably like this one.

The good:
- Good story
- There are checkpoints, so you don't have to start levels over at the beginning
- You can find weapons and health throughout the levels, which help you to keep moving
- You can improve your character by playing the challenge levels
- Variety of modes - sometimes you walk alone, sometimes you have a buddy who you can issue orders to, sometimes you ride a tank or boat

The bad:
- Things on the screen are very small.
- It can get difficult pretty quickly. You may find yourself playing forward from a checkpoint quite a few times before you figure it out.

they have superior numbers and the ability to shoot through walls. you have a guy who couldnt hit a tank with a bazooka

... and no I'm not kidding. I'll be playing this game and trying to use an item for cover and the enemy will be able to shoot through an item that I cant. Also, your characters aim is horrible. Either that or the controls are horrible, because I spent a half hour running around trying to get my character to HIT A TANK WITH A BAZOOKA more than once. Trying and failing. The enemy will often appear out of areas you're not allowed to enter for some reason. So if you want to go through a hall and theres a room that you want to clear out... well guess what? You cant clear it out, and theres a nine out of ten chance that right after you pass it and try to kill the guy past that door someone will come out of the door you cant enter to put you in a germany in world war two situation. AKA two front war. Ridiculously difficult game with hypocritical game play mechanics and a guarantee you'll probably be swearing after twenty minutes of game play.

I gave it two stars instead of one because the parts that arent ridiculously hard show the concept of the game could be fun if the programmers didnt over engineer the difficulty of the game.
