This is a solid TPS that the PSP despraitlly needed. with gorgous CG cutscenes & great controlls; this is now 1 of the best franchises on PSP. (SOCOM, GTA, Syphon philter, & now killzone) But where`s the promised online play? well ill tell u: infrastucture will be downloadable along with more maps & chapters around christmas. that`ll give you time to complete the increadblly difficult campagn mode, master the challanges, & unlock every single weapon. than you can download more levels AND get online!
NICE!!

A must buy for PSP!!!

This game is a totally new take on the Killzone franchise. It throws out the first person view and goes third person. It has a third person top down view which is a great thing. Great graphics , loads of weapons at your arsenal, and great controls are all factors of this game. The gameplay itself is great better than most psp games. A must buy for any PSP owner.

Killzone Liberation for the PSP is a good reason to buy a PSP. Beautiful graphics; challenging play; multiple modes with multiplayer capability. I enjoyed KZ for the PS2, but this is even better.

Just too darn hard

I loved Killzone on the PS2 and was excited to get a Killzone game for the PSP. Sadly, I find the difficulty level in this game to be too high. I have to replay some levels five or six times to get through. I do not find that kind of difficulty to be enjoyable. I find it frustrating and irritating.

If you're good at third person shooters maybe you'll breeze through this one. For myself, I think I'm going to put this game down and stick with first person shooters.

Very good game - third person perspective takes some getting used to

This game is very different from the other shooters that are out there. As the description says, it is a "third person" perspective, so your character is basically in the middle of the screen and you are looking down on him. You are navigating your way through an alien-industrial warzone, fighting alien soldiers, avoiding mines (some that can chase you) and trying to rescue your allies. Your character is bascially out in the open, so you can get attacked from both sides at once.

The first level or two were very easy, then it started getting hard. I found it pretty frustrating until I learned to shoot then dodge, shoot then dodge. It takes some getting used to, but it is pretty cool once you get into it. It is good to play some of the challenge levels so that you can earn upgrades for your character (ability to carry more grenades, body armor, etc.).

Overall, a very good game. If you like shooters, you'll probably like this one.

The good:
- Good story
- There are checkpoints, so you don't have to start levels over at the beginning
- You can find weapons and health throughout the levels, which help you to keep moving
- You can improve your character by playing the challenge levels
- Variety of modes - sometimes you walk alone, sometimes you have a buddy who you can issue orders to, sometimes you ride a tank or boat

The bad:
- Things on the screen are very small.
- It can get difficult pretty quickly. You may find yourself playing forward from a checkpoint quite a few times before you figure it out.

A breath of Fresh air!!!

Forget what you have read previously...this game is NOT THAT difficult if you have any ounce of patience you will do well in this game (and this is coming form a person that DOES NOT consider himself to be a Hardcore gamer). I will say however that it is challenging, which is exactly what I look for in a game, that and a high fun factor. And man is this game fun. I mean who wants a game they can beat or run through in one sitting? Onto to the review:

Graphics: 5 out 0f 5 simply amazing I knew the PSP had it in her. Killzone in my opinion really push the graphics envelope. Graphically I can't honestly name another game that looks better. The Birds eye view of the combat is great. For you main characters to be so small in bird's eye view they hole a lot of detail. Games on the PSP can look amazing and this game proves it.

Sound: 4.5 out 5 the game sounds great!!! The voice over are well done!! Battle cries/sounds are wonderful. To hear Rico shouting Obscenities and talking trash to the combatants can get old sometimes, but it is still more hilarious than tedious listening to him talk trash.

Controls/Gameplay 4 out of 5 Okay this is where most people and even I ran into some issues with Killzone: L. But honestly there was more right than there was wrong with the controls and battle mechanics. Okay first the targeting system has the highest learning curve but once you have mastered it this game is a breeze. Your main character Capt Templar automatically targets any enemy that he is facing and in range. Holding the right shoulder button allows Templar to duck and cover, problem here, that I wish was different was that you cannot move while you are crouched (this did suck, but very easy to forgive). Holding the right and left shoulder buttons target an inanimate destroyable target (like fuel carrying barrels to destroy enemies. Also while ducking behind cover you can tap the shoot button if you are targeting an enemy and you will auto pop up to take shots at him. This game throws a lot at you like spiderbombs, guys with rocket launchers and grenades, but all can be avoided with practice and a simple double tap of the left shoulder button. Overall the good definitely outweigh the bad, and you will become addicted to this style of Gameplay IF you take time to learn the controls, which unfortunately have a very high learning curve to some.

Story (So Far) 3 out of 5, the story is really lacking though it is very simplistic and also indicates a KL2 in the future. It doesn't suck but it is definitely not enough to keep a hardcore gamer interested, but luckily the addictive Gameplay makes up for it.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a challenging game, with good graphics and a style of gameplay that hasn't been done in awhile, probably since the first Metal Gear. Then I highly recommend this game...once I got the hang of the controls I was addicted and could not stop playing it. The campaign modes are not too short but not very long either and the bonus missions will test your skills for hours.

Finally Another Great PSP Game.

Do you know what Killzone is? No? Good.
If you do... forget it.

Killzone: Liberation is nothing like the PS2's Killzone other than the setting, the game has been changed completly for the better in almost everyway.

The graphics are good, albeit small on the small screen, but surprising in detail.

The sound is quite well done for a portable, with good sound effects like gunshots and explosions.

The view in this game is a sort of fixed isometric (ala diablo or fallout or Baulders Gate) which sounds like it wouldnt work but it does very well. The game auto-aims as long as your facing your enemy but you still have to be accountable for distance and recoil issues when firing, also theres a very natural movement aiming delay I.E. if your target is moveing their harder to hit.

I really think a lot about this game defies definition, yet at the same time playing it reminds me of some of the great on foot, shooting games off days long past like contra and such.

Certainly if the gameplay itself doesnt remind you of older games, the difficulty will! As probably one of the toughest games put out, this game might not be for those prone to throwing fits, but is exactly for those willing to work for it and earn their just rewards.

Great unlockables like mini-games, art, video, the kitchen sink, add in mutliplayer and co-op play... wow, Killzone: Liberation may of easily just saved the Killzone world from a horrible mediocore death.

If you like to shoot guns (in video games) and you own a PSP get this game, if you dont own a PSP, might be a good time to start thinking about it.

Frustrating and unfair, sadly

I could not wait to get this game in the mail, as the reviews seemed pretty good, but it does not live up to the hype. I really wanted to like it, but the targeting is so touchy that you basically have to run directly at the enemy to get a lock on them, exposing yourself in the open. Also there are too many times where an enemy is unseen offscreen, yet he sees you and kills you as soon as you get in his sight. Dying is way too easy with hidden land mines, grenades, and little "spider" mines that are impossible to outrun. You get a total of one weapon at a time and 2 grenades, and when there gone, you have to run back across half the map to find a locker, and oh, there happens to be another trap that wasn't there last time you passed by. Too frustrating to be fun for very long. Rent, don't buy.

Fun to play but too easy to complete

I really did enjoy this game but the whole experiece took no more than 2 days to complete all situations, levels, and all collectible monies. I do realize that now I'm suppose to find other gamers to go online and connect with to get to other levels... but that is just not my situation. I purchased this entire system for long trips and filling dead time in a busy day. I would avoid this game if you are looking for a good, challenging, and fun sigle player game. I have no experience with the multi-player or the online versions, so will leave the honor of reviewing these sections to others. Hope this helps..

Just a Tad Disappointed

The aiming controls could have been a lot better for this game and another thing, Why isnt this game in First-person like the original killzone?
If it was in first person, i would be a whole lot happier. Im only on level 4 on easy mode and i cant beat this part because the are helghan commandos and as tank shooting at me at the same time!
Maybe im not trying hard enough but the game could be a lot better!
There arent even Bots in multiplayer! I was awfully disappointed
But the parts that are actually beatable are pretty cool. It could have been a lot better! 3 stars
