A breath of Fresh air!!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 6

Forget what you have read previously...this game is NOT THAT difficult if you have any ounce of patience you will do well in this game (and this is coming form a person that DOES NOT consider himself to be a Hardcore gamer). I will say however that it is challenging, which is exactly what I look for in a game, that and a high fun factor. And man is this game fun. I mean who wants a game they can beat or run through in one sitting? Onto to the review:

Graphics: 5 out 0f 5 simply amazing I knew the PSP had it in her. Killzone in my opinion really push the graphics envelope. Graphically I can't honestly name another game that looks better. The Birds eye view of the combat is great. For you main characters to be so small in bird's eye view they hole a lot of detail. Games on the PSP can look amazing and this game proves it.

Sound: 4.5 out 5 the game sounds great!!! The voice over are well done!! Battle cries/sounds are wonderful. To hear Rico shouting Obscenities and talking trash to the combatants can get old sometimes, but it is still more hilarious than tedious listening to him talk trash.

Controls/Gameplay 4 out of 5 Okay this is where most people and even I ran into some issues with Killzone: L. But honestly there was more right than there was wrong with the controls and battle mechanics. Okay first the targeting system has the highest learning curve but once you have mastered it this game is a breeze. Your main character Capt Templar automatically targets any enemy that he is facing and in range. Holding the right shoulder button allows Templar to duck and cover, problem here, that I wish was different was that you cannot move while you are crouched (this did suck, but very easy to forgive). Holding the right and left shoulder buttons target an inanimate destroyable target (like fuel carrying barrels to destroy enemies. Also while ducking behind cover you can tap the shoot button if you are targeting an enemy and you will auto pop up to take shots at him. This game throws a lot at you like spiderbombs, guys with rocket launchers and grenades, but all can be avoided with practice and a simple double tap of the left shoulder button. Overall the good definitely outweigh the bad, and you will become addicted to this style of Gameplay IF you take time to learn the controls, which unfortunately have a very high learning curve to some.

Story (So Far) 3 out of 5, the story is really lacking though it is very simplistic and also indicates a KL2 in the future. It doesn't suck but it is definitely not enough to keep a hardcore gamer interested, but luckily the addictive Gameplay makes up for it.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a challenging game, with good graphics and a style of gameplay that hasn't been done in awhile, probably since the first Metal Gear. Then I highly recommend this game...once I got the hang of the controls I was addicted and could not stop playing it. The campaign modes are not too short but not very long either and the bonus missions will test your skills for hours.

Excellent portable online action makes up for try and die single player

Sadly the single player of Killzone Liberation receives a lot of complaints. Apparently Guerrilla has gone w/ the old school approach of making you die a lot before you can complete a level.

Thankfully they have added checkpoints, but unfortunately those checkpoints disappear when you exit the game, you can only save after you complete a level, and with some levels requiring multiple attempts and 20 minutes+ of trial and error this really kills any hope of the portable single player mode being balanced towards 5 minute playbursts.

Luckily they have spent a lot of work on a full blown 8 player multiplayer online mode that more than makes up for it. The balance of PvP really destroys the pseudo balance of the single player. Online everyone has the same chance. Strategy, timing and skill are what distance one player from the next.

There are maps and modes to customize, basically if you have 10 minutes to spare and are near wireless, going online w/ killzone is something you will not forget.

They have even added contant packs for free! Something that most shooters now charge for.

It really is 2 different games as enjoyable as the single player is, it can get very annoying doing the exact same thing over and over in the hopes that some cheap grenade or spider won't force a restart.

Online all cheapness is gone as you can get the jump on someone, change weapons, heal team mates the works.

This is a can't miss game for those with wireless. For those without it, you are missing out on the PSP's 2nd best feature. (number one is obviously the gorgeous screen.

This game is very entertaining and terrbily challenging. I would recommend playing in a padded room because when you get towards the end of the game you will probably get so frustrated as to throw your psp against the wall...

This is a solid TPS that the PSP despraitlly needed. with gorgous CG cutscenes & great controlls; this is now 1 of the best franchises on PSP. (SOCOM, GTA, Syphon philter, & now killzone) But where`s the promised online play? well ill tell u: infrastucture will be downloadable along with more maps & chapters around christmas. that`ll give you time to complete the increadblly difficult campagn mode, master the challanges, & unlock every single weapon. than you can download more levels AND get online!
NICE!!

A pretty good game that will keep you busy for a few weeks

Killzone liberation is a very good game. It has great graphics, controls, weapons, and sound. I bought the game for about $25 from amazon and it was worth it. The problem lies with the replay value. It is very fun until you beat everything you possibly can. Multiplayer is included, but it isnt online. However, there is a patch coming out that you will be able to download from your psp. It will include a whole new chapter. (4 levels) Also, it will include an online multiplayer mode. When the online patch comes out, I will give this game a 5/5. Until then, it gets a 4/5. Good game in the end.

Played this for about and hour and I found myself a little challenged. I like the AI they included in the game which makes it easier shooting your target(s). This looks like a promising game so this would be a keeper. I prefer this type of action games rather than first person shooter which, a lot harder to control than a thumb stick (joystick).

Although Different from its console counter part, it's still awesome.

Killzone: Liberation for the PSP is a fairly decent game. Graphics are kinda iffy but hey, its a hand-held. if nothing else get it for the online play which is pretty cool if u get in with the right crowd. All in all i give it a 4. Oh, i almost forgot, the gameplay itself is good and so is the story

A must buy for PSP!!!

This game is a totally new take on the Killzone franchise. It throws out the first person view and goes third person. It has a third person top down view which is a great thing. Great graphics , loads of weapons at your arsenal, and great controls are all factors of this game. The gameplay itself is great better than most psp games. A must buy for any PSP owner.

Underrated Game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Summary: Really, this game is worth it. Is it true that this game can be very difficult at times? Yes. But timely checkpoints at just the right places solves that problem very easily. And if you fail, you can always change a couple settings. A great storyline, it addition to plenty of unlockables makes this game a great buy, and a steal at under $20. The online mode is fun and intense, although recently there have been a rash of hackers. It can also be quite buggy at times, randomly disconnecting you and such, and SOE has done nothing to fix it, claiming they are too busy developing Killzone 2. However, if nobody is spoiling the game for everybody else, gameplay can be fun and intense and will keep you on your toes with a variety of different modes. All in all, I think this game is worth every penny.

Gameplay- Five Stars
There are two main gripes with this game: a bad camera and the difficulty level. Let me say that about the bad camera, it's true. Although it isn't as bad as some people say, you'll find yourself dying because you couldn't see that tank rolling in from your side. But for the most part, the camera is solid. This game might have you confused for a while because the camera angle is a new idea. No game that I have played before uses a bird's eye third person view of the battlefield. About the difficulty level, it's hard to say that it's "difficult", just because you can't get past a certain part. There is always a certain weapon that you can use against a boss, and every boss has weak points, and every battle can be one. You just need to try. The game also has a Vektan Dollars system. You pick up cases of money on the battlefield and use that money to purchase better weapons. The game also utilizes an AI buddy system, which is actually rather well executed. You can tell your buddy to follow you, or order him to move to specific strategic points on the battlefield.

Story- Three Stars
Really, there isn't much of a story. You play as Jan Templar, a elite super soldier who kills Helghast soldiers. Over. And over. And over again. But hey, I had fun while doing it. And I'm pretty sure you would too.

Online Play- Three Stars
Online play is fun and competitive, with a variety of different modes that you can play. There's the traditional deathmath, which is a free-for-all, a team deathmatch, a capture the flag mode, and an assault mode. The assault mode is where the Helghast Team attempts to use C4 on specific hard points in the enemy building in order to destroy it. Recently, there there have been a rash of hackers who ruin the game for everyone. When this happens, however, you can just try to find a new server. Another problem with online play is that the menu has lots of bugs. On mine, for example, I can't go up in rank. But my friends' can. But his doesn't record his kills, only his death. So he has three gold stars, but zero kills and around two hundred deaths. Sony Online Entertainment has done nothing to fix this, claiming they are too busy developing new (buggy) games.

Final Verdict-Five Stars
Lots of unlockables. A passable story. Competitive online play. Fun campaign mode. You could ask more for twenty dollars, but really, this is one of the most solid games I've played for a long time on the PSP.
