My kids have spent hours on this game. They love the virtual animals and zoo, and especially being able to construct the zoo however they want. It actually teaches responsibility in that they have to take care of all the animals! We are very happy with this game!

Though I can not play it on my computer, this game looks great. I've Been told that the animals are not as picky as before and the guests are smarter. When It is working, I am sure I will play it a lot. The reason it didn't work is it was created with DirectX, a program that does not work on 90% of PC video cards, including mine. I will have to buy a new video card. If you are going to buy this game, I suggest you look very carefully at Sytem Requirements before buying.

Kind of hard to review a game that doesn't seem to work on any computer (I'm on my 3rd). Nice job Microsoft. Merry Christmas.

This is very fun. You get to build your own (zoo) world and try to get more customers. Along the way, it is fun for the animals to have babies and then try to keep them from overcrowding. Fun experiences mixing up the wrong types of animals and so on. Good, clean fun.

Zoo Tycoon 2 is an extreme disappointment. It should be called Zoo Tycoon 1/2. It is a kindergartener's version of the game, with icons replacing words (for those who cannot read), animals that look like cartoons and a "biome paintbrush" that reminds one of the huge, balance-on-your-shoulder pencils that we started making our first letters with. I keep waiting for Bugs Bunny to show up. There is no challenge, no realism in the environment and a truly awkward interface that makes creating a zoo a battle of man-versus-machine. Blue Fang would have been better served to work harder on the original Zoo Tycoon. Most players simply wanted a zoom feature and some control over the behavior of the characters.
I consider purchasing ZT2 a waste of money. It is not even fixable. Blue Fang went from high school to kindergarten with this game. They would have been better served to go the other way...

A good extension of the "tycoon" concept. Excellent for both boys and girls, but a little light on the stategy aspect that makes Sid Meier games so much fun. Overall, not as strong as previous efforts such as Railroad or Rollercoaster, but fun none-the-less. Absolutely fabulous for the pre-teen set.

The game is fun. Try not to get too upset when you are trying to put up the fence in training. The game can be a little difficult at times and a little frustrating. It gives the animal's and the people's points of view, which is really a nice feature. Look for the Zoo Tycoon 2 Marine Mania, this is a lot of fun!

I bought Zoo Tycoon 2 today with the hope that we'd enjoy it as much as Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection. So far, it isn't proving to be terribly enjoyable. I have installed it on my 2.5 year old Dell laptop, which far exceeds the system requirements listed on the box. Unfortunately, what they don't tell you is that there are a bunch of video cards that Microsoft is choosing not to support with Zoo Tycoon 2. Mine is one of them, so my new game is useless. What a waste of time, money, and energy. I'm frustrated and disgusted. This is not a whimpy little computer, and it runs Sims 2 without skips, jumps, or hesitations. I honestly don't understand why it wouldn't be able to handle Zoo Tycoon 2.
Don't bother calling Microsoft either. They aren't interested in providing much assistance. The phone message refers you back to the unhelpful website that suggests that you go out and upgrade your hardware (which I might understand if this was WAY outdated, but as a computer science major when the system was purchased, I did not go bargain-basement, so even 2 years old, many of these components are still readily available)
Don't waste your money unless you have a kickin' Alienware system sitting on your desk. Apparently the little monkeys and lions are just too much for the average computer to handle.
