So far I have only played through part of the single player portion of this game but I can already say that it is one of the best first person shooters I have ever played! To start off, the game has excellent graphics, very similar to Splinter cell. In fact, you can call this game "team splinter cell" with the high tech gadgets replaced with great weaponry! The weapons in this game will cause you to drool...All of the best assualt rifles, sub-machine guns, sniper rifles, grenades & grenade launchers, and heavy machine guns make it into the arsenal for rainbow.
I am also amazed by all the team commands you can give to your other 3 team members. Entering a room has never been better.... such as blowing the door down, using a flashbang entry, frag entry, or just opening the door guns blazing. It's really cool! The single player campaign is similar in style to splinter cell, but it's a lot more realistic & believable and of course more action packed.
Now the only gripe I had with rainbow were the controls. Placing the target on an enemy is a little difficult, because the joystick seems slightly sensitive on the xbox controller. But other than that, the game is near perfect! And that's just the single player! I have yet to play it against a friend or on LIVE. If the single player is this good, then I am more than sure the multi-player & online play is excellent. Definitly worth getting!!!

It is not a bad game, but just wanted to worn people that - like me - expect to be able to play multiplayer on same xbox. You can only play multiplayer through system link or through Xbox Live system. There is no split-screen multiplayer. So - no cooperative gaming on same xbox.

Otherwise - it is very nicely done game.
Still, Ghost Recon - is better in my opinion.

This game blows every other game away

Rainbow Six 3 is probably the best online first person shooter for the xbox. yes, ghost recon is a very good game, but if you are looking for a ghost recon like game that is way more realistic, then go buy Rainbow Six 3. playing it on xbox live is unbelieveable. the only bad thing is that the levels are so small, but very detailed. the levels are like the size of training in ghost recon but with 10 times more detail and more stories to explore. this is the best fps ever!!!!!!!!!

Very good game

If you are familiar with Ghost Recon, this is just like it except indoors.

The graphics and animation for the game is great. When a character talk, you can see his mouth move. The environment looks great, and the music and sound effects complement it well.

Gameplay is divided into two parts. Offline and Online. I haven't spent much time with the offline game, but here's what I know so far. You can use the headset to issue voice commands to the other characters. While the commands are not in the manual(and for good reason), you can find them on the net. There are a lot of voice commands to keep you and your team busy without going through all sorts of menus. The game doesn't really have a story, just a number of different missions that have nothing to do with the other mission. Afterall, its more like the real thing. There are three difficulty levels, "recruit", "veteran" and "elite". All quite challenging.

Now this is where I spend most of my time, ONLINE. While I'm not sure how many maps are there, there's definately more than ten, and there's a map waiting for you to download when you log into XBL. There are quite a number of game types to choose from, including: sharpshooter, survival, team survival, mission, terrorist hunt, etc. There are quite a number of weapons to choose from, and you can quickly switch to your secondary weapon in the heat of battle. Such weapons include automatics, semi-automatic, handguns, pistols, grenades(various), and the hady gas mask. A wrong move can leave you watching the rest of the match from the lobby. You can carry a total of four weapons/items during each game, and can change them while in the lobby. If you want to go on a frag hunt, or do it as a team, or even play though the offline mission with other people, then do it. Yup, you can play coop with up to 4 players. Pretty intense I must say. Teamwork is definately vital to success. There are some missions that are near impossible without good teamwork.

While you may experience some lag, it definately isn't bothersome. You won't be shooting at someone and suddenly he vanishes and I'm talking about 16 players here. Very stable I must say. If you are familiar with Wolfenstein, then the lag is definately better than that. You can use a sniper rifle and not worry about someone skipping across the screen. Your connection speed is shown with stars, one to three with three being the best. Most people have a three star connection. I can host games of up to eight people (using a cable connection) and a dedicated server of 16.

The controll setup is pretty good, and you can choose from a number of predefined setups. Luckily you can also invert the Y stick. Night vision and thermal vision are just a button away, and I truly find them useful, especially when you can't see through the smoke. Using thermal vision, you can see people on the other side of a door, but not through walls(and for good reason). You can choose a southpaw control setup if you desire. However, you can't set each button as you can do in Moto GP.

The number of people keep growing and it grows very fast. The last time I checked there were 200K+ people. The total number of players is displayed at the top of the statistic board.

If you've been wondering if this game is worth the purchase, my reply is it definately is. Go pick this game up and stop those terrorist.

This is a tough first person shooter...even on the easiest mode. Good graphics, somewhere between Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. Great choice of weapons but once chosen, you are stuck with it through the whole mission. Three saves per mission...pick them carefully. Compared to Ghost Recon or Desert Storm, you cannot choose who you want to be and you cannot move team members individually. You do have a Zulu mode in which you can give an order and have them execute it on command. Great for entering from two different directions. I find myself having to walk away from play for awhile because of the anxiety factor. Lots of fun.

Awesome, Awesome Game

This game is great! It is probably the best Tom Clancy game I have ever played. The graphics are superb. They are like Splinter Cell because of the lighting and interaction with curtains and things like that but not as perfect as Splinter Cell. There are also about 14 missions which keep you busy and plenty of weapons to choose from. What I love about the game is the use of the Xbox Communicator. You can tell your team to do the things you want them to do. For example: If you want them to open a door clear and frag the room you say OPEN, FRAG, AND CLEAR; then they do it. Or you can add ON ZULU to the end of the phrase and they will only do it when you say ZULU GO. Its great!!!

The only things that dissapointed me was that you cant pick the type of armor for your team as you could in the old Rainbow games. Also, you are only a 4 man team. I liked the 4 teams of 4 and being able to tell them where and what to do. But those things were not near enough to make me like this game any less.

Best FPS for XBOX

Rainbow Six 3 is amazing... incredible graphics and controls - the weapons recoil, sound, and look more realistic than I've seen in any other game, with hard-hitting explosions and gunfire that add to the experience. Also, the collision detection is very good in this game - no more bumping around trying to get through doors - your team members actually do what they're supposed to do, efficiently, and without getting in your way.

One of the coolest things in Rainbow is getting a sense of where to place your team for best coverage and whether to send them into a room first or take the lead yourself... should you go in strong or be sneaky... you'll find yourself taking all these things into consideration and making decisions without interrupting the gameplay like in Recon/Thunder.

Zulu option is the best - you set up your team to go in one entrance, while you go in another and catch the bad guys by surprise... real-time tactics that actually help you win the game! Other games claim to be tactical squad-based shooters, but the reality is that you're often better off alone. In Rainbow Six you can actually use your squad to your best advantage without having to micro-manage their every move or having to make up for their mistakes.

The only thing I don't like about this game is that the dead bodies disappear as soon as they're out of sight - you turn back around and the guy you just smoked is gone! Pretty lame but not really important (it just kills the realism a little). Also, while the cut scenes are well done, for some reason the volume of the voice acting is much lower than the mission briefing and the rest of the game... but again not important.

Rainbow Six 3 is in my opinion the best FPS for XBOX right now. The graphics & sound effects, the combat, the choice of weapons, it's all there.

Note: this is the off-line review of "Rainbow Six 3". Rainbow Six 3 is a first person shooter; with sqaud tactics. This is NOT an arcade shooter like "Quake". In the Rainbow Six world, you can get killed with a few well placed shots. You need to be stealthy and think of the best way to kill your targets. You will be fighting along with three cpu AI. By giving simple commands such as hold, regroup, bang open and clear and much more. You will be killing terrorists, rescuing hostages, and disarming bombs.

Graphics (10)- the enviroments are nicely done, with detailed buildings (interiors and exteriors), weather effects; snow, rain, night time. Good use of light and shadows. The character models looks nice and animate smoothly, firing weapons with recoil action and reloading as well. The animation also uses "rag doll" physics, so when someone gets shot it will look realistic; shoot them in the shoulder to send them in a half spin, shoot in the head and see them jolt back violently with blood splattering the wall behind. The weapons look and fire realisticly. Everything looks wonderful in RS3.

Sound (10)- The sounds are excellent and add to the intensity of the game. Going from dead silence, to hearing gun fire and the thunderous booms in grenades, people screaming in pain with shot, different footsteps in wood, snow, gravel. Terrorists speak in different langauges, tense music and you got yourself an earful of great sounds.

Controls (9)- The controls are efficient and easy to learn. But if you have trouble, you can always go back into the in-game tutorial which trains you on the different button functions. Getting around is easy as a first person shooter can be. And giving orders to your teammates is as easy as holding one button then pressing a commmand. One button switches weapons, the other trigger to fire and another to reload. If you buy the head-set with the game, then things will be even more easy to give commands to your teammates. You tell them to "frag open clear" and you'll see your team carefully open a door, toss a grenade into room, then run in with their guns blazing to finish the job.

Gameplay (10)- RS3 is an amazing game not only because it looks, sounds and controls great but, also because the gameplay is intense. It made me jump out of my seat. One of my favorite levels; I went with my team into several houses, sometimes the wooden floors in the house wood creak and alert the enemies, so they hid behind furniture trying to ambush me. I would hear wind howling and suddenly gunfire breaks out and I see my teammates shooting it out with enemies in the distance. The outcome is fast and deadly as you can get killed by 3 shots or less . The artificial intelligence in the game is excellent. You'll see them ducking for cover, peaking around corners, tossing grenades to flush out groups, sometimes the enemies surrender by dropping their weapons and putting their hands up. Other times they go into a berserker rage; screaming while running towards you and firing wildly. While other times they try to ambush you. Your teammates are equally smart and will use appropriate tactics. In one of the coolest battles: an enemy hid behind a car, so I sent my team to try and sneak up on him. The enemy panicked and ran out of cover shooting at my team, then one of my teammates did a strafe move and shot the enemy dead. When that happened the other enemy terrorists opened fire trying to kill my team. But my team was smart enough to use cover and fired back, the shoot out got heavy, So I threw a grenade at the baddies and blew one of them away, but one survived. My teammates smothered him with bullets.

Rainbow Six 3, excels in everything and should be in your collection if you like first-person-shooting- simulations. The controls, sounds, gameplay and artificial intelligence in the game make it one of the best games to date!

Not really my taste.

I bought this game expecting a Ghost Recon type game with better graphics and more options. I find; however, that it is not much like Ghost Recon at all. GR requires tremendous patience, and success is largely based on equipping your team properly, and mostly positioning them in strategic locations. With GR you can move almost anywhere you want, and attack targets from any angle. In Ghost Recon you can control any player, but in RB63 you are stuck with Domingo Chavez.

I find that RB63 is more of a shoot e'm up type. Enemies appear seemingly out of nowhere, and you have to shoot quickly. The choices of where to go in this game are much more limited, you pretty much just follow down the assembly line and shoot who pops up. In Ghost Recon one enemy bullet can often kill you, but RB63 is more of a health meter type game.

As for the graphics, I was sorely disappointed. Neither enemies nor your team look very real, and they all move with a skittish, too-fast shamble that looks really odd. Play Ghost Recon, look through your rifle scope, and study the detail on your fellow soldiers. You will see camo patterns, triggers, boot laces, CamelBak, etc. Try that on RB63 and you will see a black, shifting mass with a play-doh face.

I do like the huge weapon selection, and is something I wish Ghost Recon had more of.

My final summation. Maybe it is a fun game, but it's not what I was hoping for.

Time to re learn !!

Having played Rainbow six games since they cane on the market then progressing onto Ghost Recon I found it a bit of a re-learning experience. No more blasting away but using your stealth to get around the game.
Graphics, sound and control are great, was a bit wary at first that the controls would be a bit complicated but its easy to pick up, passed through the training which I dont normally bother with and it helped a lot.
Still getting wasted before I should but just have to get back in the stealth Groove.
Great Game
