Cool Powers

The graphics are pretty bad, and the game gets old. The maps get boring, and the single player sucks. Multiplayer and playing against AI on a set map is pretty good except for the first minute of the game, it runs slowly, which is no problem really. Playing against your friends is cool but the force powers are like, wooooooooooooooooooooah, you can become invisible to a player, shoot a lightning bolt from your hand, choke someone to death and control them in the process, animate your light saber or throw it, push or pull something, jump reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally high, absorb hits, run extremely fast, do the matrix thing off the wall, and all sorts of crazy things like that. You can customize your character and your lightsaber (staff, duel, or just a single blade).
It's a good game, I got it for 30 bucks, but if you can get it lower, do that, it's worth about 20. DO NOT get a used copy, even though I didn't, even the tiniest mark on the cd upsets the game, but you can use cleaner for that.
They should make a new one of this game with better of everything except the force powers and lightsaber things.

AMAZING!!!

This game was great. I bought it as my first X-box planning for it to be a pass time until i got another game, but it was much better than i expected. Multiplayer isnt much, but the single player makes up for it.
You begin as a padawan in the Jedi Academy (hence the name) with simple missions. Soon you advance and are sent on missions outside of the academy. You get five missions per outing and get to chose one skill before playing each mission. You dont need to complete 5, only 4 to return to the academy for more training, but that would be stupid.
It is in the skills that this game goes from mediocre to fantastic! There are 8 skills to chose from and each is maxed after 3 investments. These skills can later be assigned to buttons to use in combat. These are great fun, from sizzling enemies with lightning, lifting people off of the ground to move around, to loosing a few health points in exchange for enhanced attack, defence, and speed; the skills truely make the game a must buy.

Twilek chick is cool but gameplay disappoints

I have never played Jedi Knight series before. The only reason I bought this game was because I absolutely loved Knights of the Old Republic and after finishing it, I was curious to try another Star Wars game.

The visuals are the first disappointment. The menus look like from some really old game. The ability to customize your character is very welcome feature although it doesn't affect the actual game. The graphics look decent in some indoor environments, especially in dimly lit caves and temples but outdoor scenery looks absolutely horrible!!! That's sad because they would have brought welcome variety to repetitive dirty warehouse rooms in which you find yourself most of the time. As a matter of fact, despite recycling characters, locations and music from the movies the game generally just feels much more like Doom or Quake than Star Wars. Compare that to KOTOR which succeeds in capturing Star Wars magic even with completely new characters and some original music! The plot is pretty much irrelevant here, all you do is just run from one room to another killing everyone in sight. All the dark jedi in the latter part of the game are tough, so you have to save a lot. That also really kills all "epic" mood if you had any.

Another thing that bothers me is the fact that in a huge galaxy with billions of habitants, how come you almost always are alone facing all those stormtroopers and dark jedi? All places, whether temples or space stations or whatever always seem to be completely abandoned. That may have worked in Doom, where you HAD to fight your way alone through Hell, but it just feel weird in Star Wars universe. Even though this isn't an RPG, it would have been nice to have some friendly or at least neutral NPCs along the way to give you a feeling of being in alive and vibrant universe.

The great thing about the game is the lightsaber acrobatics which really are the only thing that saves this game from being a total disappointment. They are cool and feel just like the fights in movies, especially when you can now choose dual sabers or saber staff. But since everything else is below average, this game can only be recommended for the fans of Jedi Knight series.

Lucasarts could have done better

To get straight to the point the controls for this game are terrible. The graphics and story line are a good but it still does not make up for the faulty controls. But on the good side the light saber battles are fun and does not have repition.
Pros
light saber battles are fun
No repition
Story line origonal and good
graphics are ok

Cons
The controls are annoying and horrible

So if your looking for a good Star Wars game try Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic or if you want this game get it for the computer, which has very smooth and easy to remember controls.

My opinion about this game is that it is fun. The reason this game is cool is because you can choose sides and sabers. Hideouts get you out of trouble. The level I think is hardest is Castle of the Dark Lord. The best feature of the game is riding hover bikes with guns on them. Riding hover bikes is fun. I recommend this game to fans of Star Wars.

Jedi Academy suffers the same fate as a lot of Star Wars games. It promises to put a light saber in your hands, but then it fails to deliver. Not that it doesn't give you a light saber, but as with many Star Wars games it gives you an arcade like control over it. In addition to the less than elegant light saber controls, the way you move you character is awkward too. The third person view you're given is also awkward, and you can only have a first person view while using a gun. The game provides no mean for you to stay in third person view and not have your light saber out. Once you draw it, its out the entire time. This leads to an overpowering light saber sound effect constantly in your face. The story line is pretty good, but the voice acting is lame. It lacks the true acting put into it like Knights of the Old Republic has. The puzzles are somtimes non-sensical. Not that they are hard, but they rely less on your head and more on the ability of you to try and try over again until you get them right. This game lacks the fun and control that Obi-Wan had. If you have the choice, just buy Obi-Wan for 20 bucks or Knights of the Old Republic. Obi-Wan may have bad voice acting too, but at least the game has much better control and more entertaining levels than Jedi Academy.

Didn't disappoint me.

This game is a well rounded addition to my collection of games. Some of the common complaints are enemies AI, and simplicity of the enemies. Storm Troopers do not just stand around waiting to be defeated. Obviously whomever wrote that only played the game on its lowest difficulty. The Lightsaber Duels are awe inspiring. The controls are a little off when it comes to powers, but actual combat with other Jedi looks like the movies. Switching combat styles is also very cool. It's nice to be able to change the pace of the battle with the press of a button. I only gave it four stars because the voice acting and cinematic scenes are just plain bad. But you aren't going to play the game for voice acting and cinematics. You're going to play it because of you can Lightsaber Duel, and that's all that counts.

I have not played this game

This is supposed to be the First Return of Mark Hamill to the Luke Skywalker role as voice over, since The Vector Prime commercial. Can't vouch for the game though since I don't have an X-box. Though it seems most of the Star Wars games being made by Lucasarts are for the X box. Lucas must have made a deal with Bill Gates, to make these games either for the p.c. or the xbox. Which leaves out playstation 2 and gamecube owners. It's marketing people plain and simple, but as a star wars fan it leaves a bad taste in yout mouth. Speaking of using Mark Hamill for the voice over, Lucas Give it up And Just make Episode VII. You know it will make money. Bring Back Carrie, Mark, and Harrison the real spirit of star wars. Forget the prequels.

hmm wow...

Do not buy this game. This has been the worst game I have ever owned. First off when you hold a gun it looks like a computer first person shooter from like 1995, and I didn't even get past the first level before I had to turn it off. You have limited characters to chose from, but you can change your clothes. I really enjoyed Knights of the Old republic, so I looked at these reviews. Some of them said oh this game really sucks and I chose to ignore them because I really enjoyed Knights of the Old Republic. But wow this game was really bad, if you want a good action game you should get Lord of the Rings: Return of the king. Overall this game had bad graphics, bad gameplay, and was not half as good as Knights of the Old Republic.
