this game is awsome its even better than the first one its still have realastic graphics and xbox makes it look better...the game has so many things to do u just want to play it over and over again..i bought this game over seas and even though its in a diffrent language it still says words in english. This game (in my oppinion) can almost match with Halo. the only hard part is deffeating the boss at the end of the game even if u never had trouble with and other people u faught this guy is tuff.. all in all this game should be number 1!

I already own Shenmue 1 + 2 on the DC, and yet I still plan to buy Shenmue 2 in the fall. Shenmue is one of the best series I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Yu Suzuki the man who wrote the Shenmue story planned for the game to have 14 chapters and Shenmue 1 + 2 make up the first 4 chapters in Ryo Hazuki' journey.
If you never played the original that is ok because when you purchase Shenmue 2 you'll also get 'Shenmue the movie' which depicts all the events from the first game. So you'll be caught up in the story in no time!

Hopefully Shenmue 3 won't be that far behind 2

DO NOT MISS THIS GAME

I can barely explain how excellent this game is, Shenmue is just plain and simple a true masterpiece, everything is SOOOOOO real that u will feel like u are part of the town that u live in. Events are real, if someone wants u at the arcade a 3:00 pm, then u better be there at 3:00 pm or u will probably miss some important information about ur father's killer. You can train on ur own and make urself a better fighter, and u can strain specific moves to make THEM stronger. The music in Shenmue will blow u away, it pulls u even more into the game.
QTE's are all throughout the game and i heard there are way more of them in shenmue 2. (example of a qte) A bad guy is coming at u on a motorcycle, a button flashes on the screen, whatever that button is u have to hit it in less than a second, if u succeed, the (movie-like scene) will go into slowmotion and u will execute a very nice move and kick him off his bike, on the other side if u are too slow, or push the wrong button, he will run u over, and qte can span up to how many ever buttons with u going through a whole bunch of bad guys like a mix of steven segal and jet li. And we can't forget the free battle, that's when u have a regular fight with alot of dudes that want to beat u down, and there are TONS of moves to choose from, this game is perfect. SHENMUE IS AND WILL BE THE BEST SAGA EVER MADE. I feel sorry for anyone who misses or can't get a hold of this perfect piece of art........and i haven't even played 2 yet!

GET THIS GAME!

This is the best game I have ever played. I own it for Dreamcast, but everyone tells me the Xbox version will be EVEN BETTER!!! You take the role of Ryo Hazuki, a late-teens/early-twenties year old guy whose father was murdered by the mysterious Lan Di. Basically you have to avenge your father's death. This game starts where Shenmue left off(an entire dvd movie will be added with the game to help people who didn't play the first game catch up!!!).In Shenmue 2 you can play minigames such as gambling, arm wrestling, HANG ON,ect. EXCELLENT PLOT, AMAZING GRAPHICS, GREAT VOICE ACTING, COOL MINI GAMES, A SUPERB MASTERPIECE!!!

I'm a little disappointed, but at least it's coming !

A year ago, I waited and waited for Shenmue II to come to the Dreamcast, but after I heard that it was cancelled because Yu Suzuki decided to port it over to the XBox, I was all but angry at Suzuki-san ! If it hadn't been for the cancellation for the North American DC Shenmue II, then perhaps the Dreamcast would be a more memorable machine before it died out in 2002. Now in November, Shenmue II is about to hit the shelves for the XBox only. And you can bet, it will be one of the greatest Sega titles to hit the XBox...of course, Sega will be making mostly XBox titles than just PS2, GC and GBA games ! From what I've heard from all of you, the game still retains its realism from the prequel and the QTE still exists ! And as always, Shenmue II's visuals will be served as eye-candy to the gamers who have stuck with the prequel and the European version of Shenmue II. This is yet another preview that I'm giving out ! When it comes out, expect an immediate review from yours truly ! Can't wait 'till it comes out !

Whether you have the import or not, listen up.

When Shenmue II originally came out for Dreamcast, AM2 had attempted to improve upon perfection. They succeded. And it looks like they're set to do it again with this enhanced port on the Xbox. Besides the pre-requisite Xbox extras such as better graphics and surround sound, AM2 added english dubbing anda snapshot mode. The snapshot mode is like Metal Gear Solid 2's in the sense that itit isn't needed to progress through the game, but here, if you take photos of the right people, you can unlock comics caleed Shenmue Side Stories and they really answer a lot of questions and bring up new ones, and in your spare time you can add filters to the pictures to make them look different. As far as voices go, they're excellent except Wong sounds like Chuckie from Rugrats holding his nose. It is clear that Yu-san and his team are not out to pull an "Acclaim-Crazy-Taxi-style" [...] on us. You will own this game. Wait, scratch that. This game will own you.

Shenmue 2X Best RPG Ever?

I got dreamcast a few months after it came out. And well of course i thought it was a very under rated system. The games weren't all that great. Until i rented one game; Shenmue, this game changed everything about gaming i have ever thought of before. The Story, the Graphics, th Gameplay, EVERYTHING. Then 1 year later i was waiting for Shenmue II for DC to come out and well of course after reading all these reviews you know it was cancelled. >( but i didn't stop there i imported it. And still played it with the English Subtitles and even though couldn't understand a word they were saying it was still a great game. The New Elements of the Comand QTE is better thanthe original QTE. I dont want to spoil the the story for some of you, but to be able to live in a world where you can go from different places/Quarters of a town. And there are stores everywhere that make it so realistic. To Gamble, fight in street fights and even arm wrestle and don't forget the story of the game and all the task's you have to do and learn and solve. would make a Great Combonation. Just hope the Box Art for Shenmue Makes you think overwise i have seen it. It doesn't look like something that would make you want to just buy it right away. But take my word for it. Shenmue 2X will be the best RPG Game for Xbox of the Year 2002. i don't no game of the year b/c we got GTA: Vice City as its compotion. And if you don't no what happened in the first one, it comes with a MOVIE of the First one about eveyrthing that happened.

The best game

Shenmue 2 is the sequel to one of Sega's biggest accomplishments ever: Shenmue. A game unlike anything you've ever played. But be warned this doesn't necessarily mean it's the right game for you.

The Shenmue series, take you on an incredibly deep adventure and puts you in control of the main protagonist, Ryo, in order to discover the secret of two Phoenix mirrors, over which his father was murdered. Your journey begins in a quite 1980's town in Japan. When Ryo returns home one day he finds a black car in the driveway, and some men attacking his father. The leader, Lan Di, eventually kills Ryo's father after a great fight. Lan Di is easily the best villain I have ever seen in a videogame. He's design is truly perfect. He's looks are chilling to the bone.

As you progress through and eventually finish Shenmue, you eventually come to a point where you must travel to Hong Kong in order to find out more about a mysetrious letter sent to Ryo's father the day after he died. This is where Shenmue 2 begins.

And don't worry if you never played the original game on Sega's ill-fated Dreamcast. Shenmue 2 comes with a Shenmue: The movie DVD which explains to you all the events leading up to Shenmue 2 in much more detail than I have.

The way the game works is this. It takes a number of different genres and gameplay elements and blends them into one huge game which takes place in what is no less than a small, virtual reproduction, of Hong Kong in the 1980's. And when I say reproduction, I mean it. The game has complete day and night cycles, seasons, and weather patterns. You sleep at night, play the game during the day, and as you progress through your adventure you'll notice seasons pass by. You'll watch leaves fall of trees, rain muddy the streets, and snow cover everything in white, just like in real life. Of course, time moves much faster than in real life, thankfully, so a day in Shenmue is rougly half an hour long.

The main part of the game has you running around this virtual city and talking to any of over 1000 characters who each have a complete day and night AI routine. It's as real as they get. Each person actually has his or her own life in the game. In your quest for information, you will run into a lot of bad people, where the next genre comes in. Fighting. Shenmue 2 has a fighting system so advance, that it's almost on par with pure fighting games like Tekken or Virtua Fighter, and this is just a part of the game.

You'll aslo be able to take part in quick time events: which are basically cutscenes, but with a little bit of interaction from the viewer. Meaning if Ryo's chasing somebody and something falls in front of him, it's up to you to make sure he jumps over the obstacle and not trip over it. And this is done by pressing a button or a combination of buttons which are shown to you on the screen as the cutscene is rolling. You have to have incredibly fast reflexes to succesfully complete each QTE perfectly.

But even if you fail at one of these, it doesn't necessarily you have do it over. Shenmue 2 is such a vast game that your failure may just simply lead you on a whole different path that will still get you to the same point.

Finally there are some rpg elements in the game. Not only can you enter stores, and practically any building in the city, but you can buy things. For example, you can buy certain scrolls from shops that will teach you new figting moves, and by practicing these moves with a sparring partner, you will actually get better at doing them, increasing your chances of succeeding in fighting battles.

Shenmue 2 also makes a few great improvements over its prequel. The graphics are of course better. But more importantly, you have the option to fast forward time. So if you have to meet somebody the next day, and you don't feel like gambling or playing mini games at the local arcade all day, you will have the option to jump forward in time and meet that person. This greatly helps improves the speed of the game. Overall, Shenmue 2 is just a lot bigger, better and faster than Shenmue.

Of course, all this just barely scratches the surface. I'd have to write a book to be able to describe Shenmue for what is truly is.
