As my title ses, it is just as good as the first, but a little better. It takes place right when Ryo arives in hong kong. As soon as you arive, YOU WILL DROP YOUR JAW AT THIS GAME! And now more then 50 people can be on screen. And now more jobs then evar. The freedom in this game is soo big. The graphics are improved, but now cut sceens are in wide screen. And the fighting stays the same, BUT... you lern more powerful moves as the game progresas.
Graphics/9
Sound and voice/9
Gameplay/10
In short, evan if you did not play the first, get this game!

I have to admit this game is fun. Not only is there like a million things to do but the world is huge. If you are skeptikal on buying it because it might be too 'Boring' it isnt. it can get a bit tedious but in the end your still being awwed by the overal game quality. BUY IT!

David Waters gave the best review of this game on the site. There is only one he didn't address and that is the graphics. I have never owned a Dream Cast, but I played the first Shenmue over my friend's house. I was amazed at the game. There was nothing like it at the time. I now own Shenmue 2 for Xbox, and I must say it is one my favorite games. My one and only complaint is that they didn't use the Xbox's hardware to its fullest. They just kinda enhanced the Dream Cast grapics. I mean, it looks way better than the Dream Cast, but Xbox is capable of more. Also, I have read reviews saying that if you haven't played the first one, then you probably won't like Shenmue 2. That is absolutely not true. Even if you never heard of it until now and you want a great action/adventure game, don't hesitate to buy this game. Great Review David.

I have played Shenmue on my DC and finished yesterday. It's cool! I recommend playing shenmue 1 before shenmue 2. Everybody said shenmue 2 cancelled for DC. You are wrong. It wasn't cancelled actually. It's only cancelled in US. It relased in europe and japan. I started shenmue 2 on dc after finishing the first one. This game is really detailed. Just play it! But just like i said before if you can play first one play it first than play this.

although, with some of the action few and far between. the game itself is terrific. the people are, well, different than any other game that ive ever seen, you get a sense of realism in the game, and wonder if there is actually a green market quarter or Queen street in hong kong. after playing i found myself looking at prices for plane tickets to Kowloon. i would greatly recomend this game to anyone, but be patient, the begining is a little boring, but when a plan comes together, (like when you join forces with Ren of Heavens, and go to Kowloon. its really fast paced, and fun to. dont get discouraged when you have to get work to get money to get further in the game, when you do that you usually get an extra technique or more strength. hope you enjoy. -Ryo
this one is better than the first

The main reason I got this game is the mini-games! It comes with classic ARCADE version Space Harrier, Outrun, After Burner II, and Hang On. I'd pay $20 just for these 4 games. One fatal flaw is there are no options for these games and no continues!
Sega should make all their old arcade games into a collection.
Work of excellence.

It is difficult to put "Shenmue II" into any catagory, other than perhaps one of it's own. I played "Shenmue" on the Dreamcast years ago, really liked it, and then recently started on "Shenmue II" with the X-Box. (For the purists, "Shenmue II" *can* be found for the Dreamcast. An NTSC version for the US was never released, but the a PAL version released for Europe can be found at Lik Sang.)
If you never played the first "Shenmue", I would strongly recommend that you watch the DVD movie included with "Shenmue II" before starting to play. It will give you the story line up until "Shenmue II".
Great game. A lot of fun. Patience is virtue though.
One of the things I really like about the "Shenmue" games are all the fun SEGA "tie-in's", such as going to arcades and playing the classic SEGA 80's games, buying toy Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Virtua Fighture figurines from stores and machines, etc. (Game takes place in 1986.)

This is my first RPG I played and rented and this kept me hooked with the storyline. This isn't very linier because if you mess up on an important job you'll do something different. Once I had to meet the boss to find out about RYO'S father and I had to fight a gang of thugs and I failed because wave after wave of them beat the crap out of me. Then I was healed and I met a gang and I had to ow em 400....
There's loads to do, fight with diferent moves, arm restle, play darts, spar with someone, do jobs and many more and most of those listed above is to earn money.
