Don't let the goofy web site reviews keep you from buying this game.
Chances are they never made it passed the first level.
Enclave is really an amazing game; the character design, levels and graphics are fantastic.
After you complete the 'Light" level you can play as the Dark side which is even better IMO.
I've played this game 4 times from start to finish on both levels, replay value you can't find in most games.
Be warned though Enclave will test your skills in every way you can imagine, but it's worth it.

I really enjoy this game. In fact, I am buying a second copy right now just so I'll have a back up. I've read some of the other reviews, and while the game still has a good overall rating, I thought I should give my opinion. First of all, I think the graphics surpass every other Xbox game I have, even Morrowing, which is also a favorite of mine. I like the levels, the opponants and the trickiness of it. Its definately not a cut and slash and wade through bad guys that just run right into you to be killed. You really have to think and plan. Yes you die alot. Yes there are no in level save points. And yes sometimes its very frustrating. I for one had to spend hours on some of the hardest levels, but I kept playing. Even in the replay, the game was great. I like the characters you can choose, and how different characters change the levels. I like the different weapons and bombs. Overall, its a game I would not want to live without.
One of my favorite games

I bought this kinda on a whim. I needed something to play, and at the time, there wasn't very many XBOX games where I was shopping. This was the only one they had that did not involve sports or guns. I was surprised I liked it so much. It is like a shooter game but with swords and bows and such. The different settings are each different and detailed. The characters are each different, with different abilities, weapons, strengths and weaknesses. I did find the game very hard. Some levels I had to play over a couple times because there is no in game saving. If you die, you have to start the level over. Very frustrating at time, and something I usually find infuriating, but it still did not make me put this game down. Another interesting feature is that you play through the light campaign and then get to go through on the dark campaign. Overall, I REALLY like this game, and am very glade I bought it. I would have even paid full price for it, and that is really saying something.
Good not so well known game

Title basically said it all. This game is fun but it can be frustrating at times due to not having any map for any level. This game is not perfect by any means, there are some choppy graphics and a glitch every now and then but that doesn't effect the game play. This is definately worth picking up if you like hack n slash type games and or even RPG's.
deserves more attention!

Enclave is one of the more memorable games I've played. The graphics are beautiful. Even though it is an action game, it has a lot of RPG elements. The Xbox version is quite difficult at times. There are not save points within levels (except at some of the boss fights, you can pay to come back to the same place if you die, but you have to pay each time) and you are given basically no information about a level before you begin. So you have to do test runs through levels and then finally figure out which character, equipped with which items, would be the most efficient. There is also a strict limit on the number of health potions you can carry into a level. Some of the bosses are actually pretty easy, but getting to them can be frustrating. If you're not seriously determined to beat the game, you may give up once you reach a point where you don't think you can advance, but if, instead, you prevail and beat the game, you will really feel a sense of accomplishment. it's no easy victory. it's time consuming and will at times make you want to pull your hair out... but it's a great game.
There are two campaigns: light and dark. You must beat the light campaign to access the dark campaign (which is generally, easier, in my opinion).
The Light Campaign: You start off as the knight and must escape from a prison that is being attacked. Later you meet different characters to choose from:
+ huntress: good with a bow
+ druid: uses staffs - Darkness of Despair being one of the most powerful ones
+ halfling - very fast, improved version of the knight
+ engineer - has the ability to use bombs
+ wizard - the same as druid, but with more poweful staffs; however, very low health so he isn't a good character to play with generally.
+ earth golem - is earned after you complete the light campaign. he is slow, but very powerful; he uses his hands.
+ 9320 battle droid - is earned by collecting all of the gold in the light campaign. Unfortunately, thanks to bonus one level (the hard setting of Hagastrom), I have not earned this character.
The light campaign has 14 different levels and 3 bonus levels. Many of which are very difficult the first times through, but relatively easy after practice and going back later with a stronger character.
The Dark campaign is 13 levels with 3 bonus levels. I found these levels generally to be easier than those in the light campaign.
The characters you earn are pretty much counterparts to those in the light campaign.
+ assassin - default character, similar to Huntress
+ beserker - same as knight
+ sorceress - same as druid
+ goblin - same as halfling
+ bombardier - same as engineer
+ lich - same as wizard
+ stone gnome - same as earth golem (though in my opinion, much weaker); earned after completing dark campaign.
+ feticia - same as battle droid. earned after collecting all the gold in the campaign.
A very good misunterstood game !

This game got rave reviews from many web sites and I still don't quite understand.
This is a really good fantasy action game. Set in a world where good battle evil (for a change...;), you play the role of different heroes fighting for the light or for the darkness.
Story and background: The best thing about this game is that you start with a quite lengthy compaign where you play one of the five different classes available on the side of good. After every misson you can buy new equiments with the gold found during missions. Once the campaign of good finished, you can restart anew on the evil side where you play the same story but from a different angle. Here is an exemple of such a quest: when you play on the good side, you must escort and protect a merchant at night in a small village where in the evil campaign you must assassinate this same merchant who is quite well protected. I would say 5/5 for the story, the length of the game and the for playing the same story on both sides.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are very good even if this game is starting to date. I would say 4/5 by today stardards.
Sound: The sound is very good and is a good 'mood-setting'. 4/5
Controls: The controls are very good although they might be hard to get used to at first. There aren't a lot of possible combo to do with each classes though. 4/5
Any 'Lord of the Rings', or fantasy fans should try this game. It is a very good action game at a very low price ! No reason not to try !
Great Hack and Slash in the fashion of Heretic and Hexen!

This game provides great pace, each character type are also very unique providing a different perspective on playing the game. Go thru a map as a sniping archer, powerful knight or the thoughtful mage. Graphics are very good for the age of this game. Starbreeze studio is one to watch out for. If you loved Heretic and Hexen, you'll love this game.
Oh, let there be an Enclave 2!

What can I say? This game is great. If you like difficult games, this is THE ONE GAME you really need to get. But, be forewarned, some levels are really hard. In those cases, you really do need to come up with clever strategies in order to pass them.
Great Graphics....

First, let me say, Enclave has beautiful graphics. But after playing it awhile, I found myself frustrated by my inability to generate my own character, or to be able to start out with a character of my own gender (female). True, later on, you can select a new character at each level, but after a while, I just found myself NOT caring about playing any further.
I prefer games with a little plot and a LOT more diversity at the get go. Enclave just failed to grab my interest.
A little struggling never hurt anyone

First off, this game has great graphics. The fact that you can play in both first and third is GREAT!
I have read that in order to save a game you must pass a level, and a lot of people seem to not like this. I loved it! It made me try harder with different characters on the levels!
This is a game that wants you to try to pass levels in different ways. TRY being the key word here. The levels are not all that long so it's not all that bad when you die.
Music was good. It did not get on my nerves, but rather put me in the mood to play and go further through the levels.
Bottom line for this game: You wanna play a game that wants you to TRY different things in it's game play? Get this game!
