Great Graphics....

First, let me say, Enclave has beautiful graphics. But after playing it awhile, I found myself frustrated by my inability to generate my own character, or to be able to start out with a character of my own gender (female). True, later on, you can select a new character at each level, but after a while, I just found myself NOT caring about playing any further.

I prefer games with a little plot and a LOT more diversity at the get go. Enclave just failed to grab my interest.

Simply Amazing!

With the XBox lacking in the RPG department, i started searching for "close" games. Enclave captures RPG style, Diablo style, and even some Parappa de Rappa style! no, not so much parappa style. but, you get everything you need in a game! the sound is top notch. it reminds me very much of Gladiator movie style music, and it really puts you into the atmosphere! the graphics are superb, any and all minor details were looked into when they made this one! a few snags, however.....
1) difficulty: no easy/medium/hard settings. you really have to go in there and kick some but. on a couple levels i had to put in the God Mode code, since i couldn't have beat them otherwise
2) no save during missions. only 2-3 times will you find checkpoints, and they are immediately before a boss. these guys will come at you in hordes, and if you die it's back to the beginning!
3) the cut-scenes between missions look like the game. yes, the game looks great byitself, but they really could have suped up the cutscenes FFX style
Enclave also offers both the Light and Dark (after you beat Light) campaigns, so once you play the role of the good buy and save everybody, you get to destroy everything and conquer the world! sort of a good facelift from the usual nice guy role!
all in all, if you're looking for an awesome game with great graphics, story-line and sound. there's nothing clunky about the fighting system, and you get alot of freedom with which character you use on which mission and what equipment they use. 2 thumbs up, 5 stars all around the board!

Great Fun!

A great game! A wonderful combination of stategy, great graphics, a variety of interesting playable characters, variable weapons, and interactive scenery! The graphics are the best of any role-playing type game I've seen!

My only critisism (but a significant one) is the lack of adequate "save areas". If your character dies before completing a level you start from the beginning (all over again) every-single-time. Since many of these levels are very difficult this means you repeat the earlier portions of certain levels many, many times. I confess. I actually went on-line to get the invincibility cheat-code so that I could complete certain very frustrating levels. This is the only thing that keeps this from being a 5-star game.

deserves more attention!

Enclave is one of the more memorable games I've played. The graphics are beautiful. Even though it is an action game, it has a lot of RPG elements. The Xbox version is quite difficult at times. There are not save points within levels (except at some of the boss fights, you can pay to come back to the same place if you die, but you have to pay each time) and you are given basically no information about a level before you begin. So you have to do test runs through levels and then finally figure out which character, equipped with which items, would be the most efficient. There is also a strict limit on the number of health potions you can carry into a level. Some of the bosses are actually pretty easy, but getting to them can be frustrating. If you're not seriously determined to beat the game, you may give up once you reach a point where you don't think you can advance, but if, instead, you prevail and beat the game, you will really feel a sense of accomplishment. it's no easy victory. it's time consuming and will at times make you want to pull your hair out... but it's a great game.

There are two campaigns: light and dark. You must beat the light campaign to access the dark campaign (which is generally, easier, in my opinion).

The Light Campaign: You start off as the knight and must escape from a prison that is being attacked. Later you meet different characters to choose from:
+ huntress: good with a bow
+ druid: uses staffs - Darkness of Despair being one of the most powerful ones
+ halfling - very fast, improved version of the knight
+ engineer - has the ability to use bombs
+ wizard - the same as druid, but with more poweful staffs; however, very low health so he isn't a good character to play with generally.
+ earth golem - is earned after you complete the light campaign. he is slow, but very powerful; he uses his hands.
+ 9320 battle droid - is earned by collecting all of the gold in the light campaign. Unfortunately, thanks to bonus one level (the hard setting of Hagastrom), I have not earned this character.

The light campaign has 14 different levels and 3 bonus levels. Many of which are very difficult the first times through, but relatively easy after practice and going back later with a stronger character.

The Dark campaign is 13 levels with 3 bonus levels. I found these levels generally to be easier than those in the light campaign.

The characters you earn are pretty much counterparts to those in the light campaign.
+ assassin - default character, similar to Huntress
+ beserker - same as knight
+ sorceress - same as druid
+ goblin - same as halfling
+ bombardier - same as engineer
+ lich - same as wizard
+ stone gnome - same as earth golem (though in my opinion, much weaker); earned after completing dark campaign.
+ feticia - same as battle droid. earned after collecting all the gold in the campaign.

With the success of some of the RPG/action hybrid game recently, like Baldur's Gate, etc. it's no big surprise that this game is also awesome and fun to play. The fact that it's on xbox is great since the system is missing games like this.
Basically if you can envision a Halo like game, but with medival characters, you would have a rough idea of what Enclave is like. YOu can choose to play as either a character of Light or Dark, each with their own unique styles and gameplay. THe game itself is a fast paced arena slaughterhouse, especially if you start playing multiplayer with your friends.
The graphics are all topnotch, everyone's probably all seen the screenshots, if not, check them out. The game flaunts the fact that it utilizes almost all of the xbox graphical processing in some of the visual effects, etc. At least I know that the blood and gore is right there, and the environment details are top notch.
The sound effects and soundtrack are great, and go right along with the theme of the game. Definitely pumps up the aspect of the game and gets the blood pumping.
Overall, a great great game with lots of replay value, especially since there are two opposing sides, for a total of 8 characters. Pick this one up if you are looking for a great RPG multiplayer game on the xbox.

Coulda been a Contenda!

... Once again this is a game that should rented and not purchased. The game is really terrific and I would have given it a Five-star rating if it hadn't been for major flaw...no mid-mission saves or checkpoints. Of course you might be thinking, "Big deal"...of course you also haven't played the game yet.

If you actually purchase this game be prepared for costs exceeding the initial price. For example, the cost of new controllers (which you will smash in childish fits of anger), the cost of a new Xbox (which you will ruin because of repeated ripping out and putting back in of game) and the cost of a new TV (which will have one of your smashed controllers embedded in it).

I'm all for challenging games, games that don't hand the answers to you, but this game is a bit on the sadistic side. The total lack of a checkpoint system is just far too frustrating. Other than that, the game is great. The weapons are sweet and the graphics are out of this world. Dolby 5.1 surround sound really sucks you into the environments and the storyline is pretty decent. The controls take a little while to get used to but, so did Halo's and we all know how that turned out.

So take my advice and go rent this game, play it, ...

Love it, but some parts are just impossible!

Fun game, great environmental graphics, but framerate a bit slow in some parts when the action cranks up. Overall, love the game, but find the "god mode" code from the 'R' Zone section on Amazon to get past the incredibly hard parts. You can always go back, play those parts again in regular mode if you don't like cheating. Trust me, you will need to cheat to keep moving forward in a couple of spots, just to keep playing and interested.

Non-Intuitive Controls Drive Ya Nuts

If you're looking for something along the lines of Balder's Gate this is not the game to get. The story line is okay, but the controls are not intuitive and hard to figure out. If you are used to using the buttons on the XBox controller then this will drive you nuts. The weapon and shield controls are the triggers which I thought completely ridiculous. And, you can't really customize the controls the way you want. If you want to try it rent it first. I played one night then returned it. Another annoying thing is there isn't enough health potions. Another thing is the turning and movement thing. You can't turn when moving like forward or backward. So, if you're trying to attack an Ogre, and he gets behind you, you have to use the left thumbstick to get behind him and the right thumbstick to turn around while you try and hack him, so then you're hacking at thin air. Overall very disapointing. Decent graphics though.

Oh, let there be an Enclave 2!

What can I say? This game is great. If you like difficult games, this is THE ONE GAME you really need to get. But, be forewarned, some levels are really hard. In those cases, you really do need to come up with clever strategies in order to pass them.

One of my favorite games

I bought this kinda on a whim. I needed something to play, and at the time, there wasn't very many XBOX games where I was shopping. This was the only one they had that did not involve sports or guns. I was surprised I liked it so much. It is like a shooter game but with swords and bows and such. The different settings are each different and detailed. The characters are each different, with different abilities, weapons, strengths and weaknesses. I did find the game very hard. Some levels I had to play over a couple times because there is no in game saving. If you die, you have to start the level over. Very frustrating at time, and something I usually find infuriating, but it still did not make me put this game down. Another interesting feature is that you play through the light campaign and then get to go through on the dark campaign. Overall, I REALLY like this game, and am very glade I bought it. I would have even paid full price for it, and that is really saying something.
