Doom 3's graphics engine is amazing. It looks very good.
Xbox cannot handle the origonal engine very well.
Doom 3 on Xbox looks terrible, and the gameplay is pointless. The only draw for the computer version is the fact that it looks awesome. I does not on Xbox.
Don't waste your hard earned money on this title

I really don't know where to start but here goes:
1. The storyline starts out trying to imitate the Resident Evil plot, only instead of the company being Umbrella Corp, the company is some United Aerospace Corp. or UAC for short. Why not come up with an original plot?
2. I wanted to go to the graphics from here... but I feel the need to warn you right now that the load times are IMMENSE, from what I have seen in other xbox games, these are typical, but are simply unacceptable in this age of technology. I lost interest after the second load time, and took the game back to the rental place.
3. Graphics, graphics, graphics... yes these graphics suck, they have PS2 written all over them. Goofy characters, WoW! am I dissapointed.
4. Sound -- the sounds don't inspire me or give me that "spine chilling" feeling. They are not erie, or horror filled. They really cheesed that part of the game.
5. Controlls -- what can I say, they suck.
Look, if your into this genre, please don't waste your money on Doom 3, get Resident Evil 4... RE4 is the best game ever made on any system, and beats this game 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to 1.
What ever you do DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, rent it and you will see what I mean, you can return it and you will save your hard earned money.
Not for the regular Joe

I just played for almost an hour and was dissapointed. There's just too much ocultism there. Pentagrams everywhere since the start, even the "loading" icon was a pentagram. I just can't enjoy it being a Jesus follower. I threw away $45.
it's alittle spooky but somehow it's not what i expected.

First of all why is it so dark? i have to switch from flahlight to a weapon and then switch back whats up with that? i enjoy this game even if there was alot of draw back, but i must admitt that it's creepy at times, i expected more and i felt that the graphic was good the environment was realistic, the audio good, but the technology hmmmmmmm gun without light ect............i think that the shot gun was almost useless compared to the original doom, well lets not be too critical, all in all i wanted more and expected more, this definitely a good game it may not have much replay value but it's worth the ride well later folks
Starts out great but gets old fast.

I loved Doom 3, for about 4 hours or so. After that I started to realize that I was doing the same thing over and over and over again. I quit after I reached the Hell level. After 12 hours of monotony. Does it have great graphics and sound? Yes. But you stop ooing and aaing not long after the game gets going. Ultimatley it's too dark and has too little story to sustain it's enormous length. My advice, play it for a while till you get bored then move on.

This is probably in most xboxers top 5 somewhere below Halo. Excellent new engine now used in next gen games from ID and others (Prey, Quake4). Game looks gorgeous.
Weaknesses are thin story (though this franchise never had or needed one in the past), no offline co-op, no wide open spaces as with original Doom games (though they may be trying to give a clausterphobic feel), not enough Hell levels (but the game is enormously long). But these aren't enough to keep it out of 5 star territory. I'd give it 4.8/4.9 if possible. The flashlight thing people make a big deal about didn't bother me as much as others - they are obviously trying to increase the scare factor by doing this.
Very good job by the folks that started the FPS gaming innovation, ID.

Remember how entertaining Doom was? Imagine getting to relive that nostalgic experience but with unbelievable graphics atmosphere and even *gasp* a less ridiculous story. Id has managed to capture everything about the first 2 dooms and still add to it enough to make it compete with(and usually beat) most current games. I am a huge fan of the shotgun but in most FPSs the shotgun is rare and unpractical, in this respect doom 3 is a dream come true. If you don't like shotguns or visiting hell than don't waste your time, if you do this well the ride of your life.

Doom 3 is an excellent game, when you first play it, it is pretty damn scary. But after a while it gets to be kind of the same old dodge fireballs and kill the demon. Usually they'll add in surprise like a pinky demon will bust through the wall.

Being blown away from this game was what many of us thought, ecspecially since it took five years.I wasn't the least bit blown away from the actual gameplay as it wasn't as spooky as aclaimed.I will say the environments(though incredibally dark 2/3's of the time) were outstanding. They kept it almost as good as the PC version. The online is incredible too.
The online truly saved this game as the co-op is tense. When your bud dies and you have no clue where he is and you have only a flahslight, your in for some quick and fun manuvering. It requires some teamwork though wit hno gameovers it feels as though there is no penalty for dying not even a repeat/checkmark zone. The load times could be better online and the frame rate online could of been abit smoother, but requiring so much power you can't complain of lag.The death matches are almost pointless but they do have a good variety of weapons and uprgrades to keeps the battles going. The level designs are cool some places feel very familiar and soem are completly new,so thats a nice bonus.
The gampeplay is what truley dissapointed me the most. It's bassically run n' gun ok i can deal with that Halo was run n' gun.Though this game just feels so slow and you feel lost looking for little keycards and pin points on your navigation system and the countless enemies just become boring.Don't get me wrong the games fun for a half hour or so but then it becomes the same thing over and ove ragain. The controls are nice all the screens seem adequate. The weapons felt somewhat balanced.
Overall I'd reccamend a rental at tops.
