Good to look at, not fun to play.

This is volleyball? The actual volleyball part of the game is When I hear the title "XTREME" Volleyball, I want solid gameplay, but you get none of that. And what makes it extreme anyway? Sure the bodacious babes are a big plus, but the gameplay relies on just hittin the ball over the net with 2 buttons and hoping you get points. I just felt the lack of interaction. Heck, Tecmo didnt' even bother to apply the scoring rules to this volleyball game. Only A and B buttons are used. There are basically only 2 things you can do on offense, hit the ball up in the air for your partner, then spike it over the net. Fun? Um, not hardly. The computer basically decides the matches and who wins. There is no strategy involved, it's just game for looks and busty babes, nothing more. This is Tecmo, the makers of Ninja Gaiden and DOA Hardcore? Anyway, then after a boring day playing volleyball, you have to go back to the lame Island mode and waste time going through useless and boring places on the island. You try to earn the love of other girls by buying them swimsuits and gifts. Why would one find this enticing? I'm sorry, this game sucks. Sounds like a harsh description, but if it wasn't the redeeming factor of the sweet graphics, this game would be a total disappointment. Is it the worst volleyball game ever? No. But when you pit it against the quality of Sega's game on the Cube, it's just further proof how bad the volleyball engine really is.

The graphics are amazing though. The ladies look better than ever and if they were real I'd defintely want a few dates. It's actually the same engine Tecmo used in Dead Or Alive 3 for the XBOX. You'll recognize one of the beaches being taken directly from the 3, and it looks amazing. Seagulls flying in the background, warm sand curdling your girls feet, and the ocean hitting the sand over the horizon. There are also new beaches, jungles and islands to play volleyball. Once again, lush scenery, fantastic animations and great graphics are nice, but when the gameplay sucks, who cares? For the guys that bought the game strictly for the babes, they might appreciate the "Gravure System" as Tecmo calls it. On days when you want to be alone with your girl, you can take her somewhere alone on the island and just look at her basking in the morning sun. You're thoughts of being there with her might be fun for awhile and mind you it is ultra realistic. You can zoom in on her, change the camera view and take her to different locations. For added visuals, you can also give your girl a nice tan and hook her up with countless bikinis. You can buy tanning oil in the accessory shop and you can watch them over time get a lush golden tan from the sun. If you want to keep them healthy, you can also buy sun block. Sigh. This sucks. I'll say it once and I'll say it again, visual splendor alone, this game rocks, but the game sucks, it really does.

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball = Xtreme Fun

In order to explain the hype this game has produced, let me first introduce you to my own experience with Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball (DOAXBV from this point on). When I first saw the marketing campaign and promotional material for this baby, I fell in love with the idea. I mean, come on! Fifteen days on an amazing private island inhabited by beautiful femme fatales (all of which, by the way, are taken from the fighting series Dead or Alive) playing, not just beach volleyball, but extreme beach volleyball. You can imagine how crushed I was to learn that DOAXBV was going to be an Xbox exclusive (I only owned a Nintendo Gamecube). So, what do I do? Buy an Xbox, of course! No kidding. I actually dished out two-hundred bucks just for one game. So believe me when I say I was expecting quite a lot from this baby!
And how does she add up? DOAXBV alone, in my opinion, is fully worth the cost of the system. It becomes one of those addicting games (think The Sims) that you start playing and then look at the clock and go, "Wow! I've been playing for like five hours!"
The basic premise is that the Dead or Alive 3 champ, Zack, has spent his winnings on this beautiful private island complete with radio station (allowing the player to change the soundtrack heard continuously throughout the game), accessory shop (with stuff for the chicks to buy like nail polish, hats, shoes, and volleyballs), sports shop (with more bathing suits than you can imagine), a huge hotel (complete with casino offering slot machines, blackjack, poker, etc.), a pool area (where the player can lounge around or play "the hopping game" in which you jump from floating platform to platform over the pool to earn money) and numerous volleyball courts in a variety of areas including beaches, jungles, and off the coast islands.
You get to choose between eight different girls with varying attributes and qualities (including power, technique, defense, etc.). The strategy comes in when you must acquire a partner. You must earn money (through "the hopping game") and then buy whomever you wish to partner with presents from the above mentioned stores. If the girl likes your gifts, she'll accept your offer to be partners but if she doesn't, you're left alone. The volleyball games provide quite a large amount of money (if you win) which you can use in the casino and other stores.
Aside from the stunning volleyball action and hopping game, though, the game is presented to you in a variety of options menus. For example, in the sports store, you see a list of swimsuits and prices. You don't actually get to control your character around. This can be a little upsetting, but the beautifully rendered graphics during the volleyball games make up for it.
If you're looking for a more sports-oriented game, you may or may not be pleased with DOAXBV, because volleyball is not necessarily the focus of the game. You can make the girls do whatever you please during your fifteen day stay. Volleyball is only optional. I think this game will please fans of simulation games like The Sims, where there isn't really a goal to playing, you just play because its fun. There is a bit of strategy involved in the game, though, especially when you're trying to choose and, eventually, win over a new partner. The partnerships make or break your ability to win volleyball games.
If you, like I, enjoy sports games and simulation games, I recommend you go out and buy this addictive and enjoyable game without hesitation. But, everyone else, I would recommend you rent it first and then decide for yourself because this isn't a typical, single-genre game.

Unlike all the other five star writers I do not give this 5 stars JUST because of the super awesome babes (because they are cute) especially with the graphics. And seriously this is also supposed to be a serious fantasy volleyball sim/rpg. This is a must by for babe lovers or hardcore beach volleyball lovers, or just the relaxing, low pressure rpg.

This is the worst game i've ever played. The graphics are nice if your a 12 year old pervert. Gameplay is probably the worst volleyball game I've ever seen

I think this is a very good game not only because of the half naked women running around the screen but because of the awesome gameplay too. I never had owned a DOA game before buying this, I only heard good things from my friends. When i bought it i only wanted to see women but it was a fun game too. Once you get the controlls down they become 2nd nature. The only problem with the game are the limited camera angles. Sometimes it gets hard to see your character. Over all it was a very good game.

This has to be the most disappointing game in existence. First Tecmo did not even bother to translate the spoken dialogue from Japanese to English in the American Version. You do get the benefits of subtitles in English though. Next the game seems pointless. All you do is go around playing Volleyball to earn money so that you can buy gifts for your player and other characters. You try to go around an impress the other girls with the gifts that you give to them. If they do not like the gifts, then you are stuck without a partner. Without a partner you cannot play Volleyball. It is also set up per day where you have a Morning, Noon, Evening, and Night. You are forced to go back to your room at night to either gamble or sleep for the next day. The gambling system is alright and addictive. This has to be the best part of the game. The rest is just a boring time filled watching girls play volleyball and pose for you on the beach. I did like the fact that you can zoom in on the girls when they are posing for you. This does get boring after awhile. All in all, it is like having a girlfriend without the benefits. You spend all your time making money so that you can buy them gifts. Then in the slim chance that the girls accept your gifts you get to play volleyball with them. Where is the fun in that? Do not waste you money on this.

hot and sexy they are the only word i can think of when i play this(...) Buy it. It is sexy. it is the closest thing you will get without actully doing it.

This game is alright, but my biggest complaint is that this is a 2 player game instead of 4. The volleyball section itself is fun for a little bit, but really needs to be played with other people because playing by yourself gets kinda old.
Besides that, there's also a casino to go play. The games are Poker, Blackjack, Roullette, and some slot machines. And me being a fan of those type of games (2 more years until I'm 21! Look out Vegas!) this is where I myself have the most fun. But sadly, this feature is not multiplayer! *shakes fist at Tecmo*
The rest of the game is just a kind of friendship simulator where you must give gifts to the girls in order for them to like you and receive other gifts they might not normally want to keep. You make money from winning volleyball games, and winning from the casino. You'll spend most of your time just buying and collecting items, and just staring at the girls doing their thing.
If anything, this game is at least worth being a rental.

this game is the best on xbox for many reasons:
1.Unbelievable graphics.the backgrounds are very lush,the sand is rendered so well you can nearly feel it in your hands while playing.
2.HOT,HOT,HOT,HOT chicks from the dead or alive series plus a new chick named lisa.i have a girlfriend,but i can't deny this is the best-looking game ever.
3.Great swimsuits to buy.you have many swimsuits to buy,and each character has a unique set to choiose from.from lisa's venus to
hitomi's whale,you'll find something that fits your tastes.
4.Great swimsuits to receive.Zack sends you presents that increase in rareness and greatness as long as you win lots of matches.
5.the volleyball is lots of fun.
6.great relationship side of the game.buy the other girls gifts(items or swimsuits) and win matches against them to build a friendship.if you get them to really like you, they will be your partner.
this game is awesome.get it now.....
