Must buy

This game is great with all the bouncy characters and multitiered levels. With new characters and fighting styles, this game is the one to have if you can only get one game for the Xbox. If your parents nag about the rating on mature sexual themes, just show them the game, but set the bouncyness to 1 instead of 99.

Graphics are awesome but does not have good gameplay

This fighting game has the most amazing graphics I have seen so far. There is a lot of detail in this game. However, they spend too much time on detail rather than the story and gameplay. I unlocked all the movies and characters in two hours and somehow don't feel like playing it anymore. The movies are highly detailed but don't make any sense and are pretty cheesy. There are no new characters to unlock (only new costumes) which is a turnoff of the game for me. Another big turnoff for me is the DOA series is pretty much a 'button masher' game. There is no memorization of combos or anything. If you hit the punch or kick buttons randomly, you can beat the game. The boss isn't very fun to beat either. The view angle stinks and you can't use him as a character. This game makes it fun to watch though because I can enjoy the detail of the scenery and how realistic the fighting is.

I am a big fan of fighting games especially Street Fighter and Tekken but if you prefer a game that requires more skill and control over a character then DOA3 is not for you. Bottom line is, this game is only fun to watch.

Basically, take DOA2 (which was kickass), throw in jaw-dropping, crap-your-pants-it's-so-good graphics, awesome XBOX controls, and you have a winner. Wait until October - DOA Ultimate will blow you away!

Breathtaking

Three words..... Oh My God! I just got the game today in the mail. Sadly, I don't have my Xbox yet, but it looks amazing! The screen shots on the box show it to be the most graphically impressive fighting game of all time. Aside from that, DOA2 for Dreamcast is one of my favorite games ever. If Temco has input the same fighting controls, which it appears they have, I'll never put the controller down. To top off the potential for the game, Aerosmith performs a section of the soundtrack. (Amazing, Nine Lives, Home Tonight) I'm sold, when I get my Xbox on the 15th, rest assured, the first game to go into the system is going to be DOA3. I'd reccomend this game to everyone. Old, Young, Sweet or just plain Rude, this game will bring out the animal in anyone. Thank you!

Excellent Fighting Game! Shows off Xbox power!!

This game was excellent to play. The graphics were outstanding and the fighting action was incredible. My only complaint to the game was the very short story game side of it. I think there were like 4 fights and then the fight with the big boss. It took all of about 5 minutes to complete the game. I guess it was more designed for the multiplayer challenges, etc. It would have been better had their been more of a story or plot to the game.

As a pure fighter game, it's the best out there. Hands down!

This game is pretty. It makes me feel all warm and squishy inside.
From the phenomonal fighting environments, to the unbelievable character rendering and animation, the graphics on this game are the best I've ever seen.
While the story mode is a waste of time, the multiplayer combat is a seven-course meal in brutal martial arts action. Every character has such depth of manuevers that you will never learn them all, rather, just play and be surprised when your character finds a new way to pound your opponent's skull into the ground.
It offers nice balance, allowing beginners to enjoy a game against experts (and put up a good fight), and experts to still have the advantages of experience and strategy.
Note that it's not truly four-player; there are very rarely more than two characters on the screen at once. Just the same, I have spent many fun hours playing the four-player tag team mode which promotes and rewards teamwork.
Get this game.

Awesome fighting game, you can button mash, but if you get good at it you can waste any button masher. The graphics are totally awesome, especially the CG movies for each of the characters, not to mention its got really, good looking, ladies on it, and this could be a warning, or, an attraction to the game for some people, but one of the new characters has a CG movie that shows some, skin, and more than what you'd expect, the entire backside, without any coverings, and a bit uncovered from the side. Then the rest of the movie is her walking around in her underwear watching tv. Just remember. She kicks high...

Best fighting game I've seen since Street Fighter 2

I'm gonna skim over the obvious stuff: the graphics are great, there's not much to unlock, the action is faster.

Okay, now for the important part.

What impressed me into buying DOA 3 was the way the fighting actually looked real. It wasn't just two people throwing different punches or kicks at each other, like Tekken (which is a fun game nonetheless). The combat is much more dynamic. Holds and counter-moves play an important role. The environment you fight in also affects things, cause you can throw opponents through windows, slam them into trees, or kick them over cliffs. I know of no other game that does this, except maybe DOA 2 (which I never played). This is what keeps you coming back for more, because all these elements make the fighting so dynamic that you almost never fight the same fight twice. And the fact that it looks so darn good!

The story was short and fairly pointless, but it wasn't that hard to follow, unlike Tekken, where you never had a clue what was going on. There is one new character to unlock but he's not the end boss. So the emphasis is more on multiplayer. You can have 4-player tag team matches but only 2 players will fight at a time.

I just have to add that the characters are unbelievably well detailed, especially the women :). Nothing out there can compare, not even Tekken 4. It's truly groundbreaking.

Bottom line: If you're looking for a fighting game, look no further.

Don't listen to PS2 and GC owners - This Rocks!!

Hi,

I was reading several of the other reviews and then determined that these people own another game system. It must be as my friends, wife and church group members all love this one. More than Halo. But everyone is different so at least rent it and see for yourself if it's worth having. In fact any game is worth renting as there are so many reviewers out there who just want to sabotage a game or platform.

As for the game, the characters move with lots of life like, XBox powered, motion especially when compared to other fighting games such as Bloody Roar or VF4. I've played them, a lot, and I still prefer DOA3. The graphics are unbeaten by any other fighting game out there at the time!

There is even a FREE expansion pack CD coming out for XBox magazine subscribers that will add new clothing, styles, etc to the players all because the XBox has a built in hard drive that the other units do not have. This would be impossible with the other game systems such as PS2 and GameCube without adding a hard drive expansion of some type. So just know that they are all jealous because they don't and wont have this feature without an expansion drive and then there would be the problem that only a handful of vendors would support it. Aaahhh, don't cry.

Your friendly neighborhood rodent,

Munk

Completely awesome graphics. The only problem I had was that I was actually able to beat story mode by rapidly pressing one button. My nephew, who is 3 years old, beat me in multiplayer mode using a similiar technique.
