I've read every review I could possibly get my hands on about Brute Force as well as going to the XBOX web site to check it out. There is a wide spectrum of opinions on this game and the possibility that it is going to topple Halo as XBOX's King of Games. I've never played the game but I have done a "little" research and it seems to me that it will be a worthy title for the XBOX, but as for saying the it is better than Halo is like comparing apples to oranges. Sure they both taste sweet but they have their own flavors. The MC (Master Cheif) did his thing now they ,the Brute Force gang, can do theirs. I say that we just let Halo be Halo and Brute Force be it's own game. Besides, as soon as Halo 2 enters the scene, you nor I probably won't play Halo or Brute Force again. At least not for a very long time.
A great game, though it could be better

This game does rock. Very intuitive, good AI, excelent graphics, good story line (though random at times, but thats what you would expect from a special all-purpose squad of elite soldiers). I ususally prefer FPS but having played this game for close to 24 hrs (in five days) ive been won over by the 3PS view. Unlike halo there is a strong element of stealth. The camera angle never gets messed up (unless you are on a wall, it becomes see-through). The stealth element really allows a fun dimension to the game while keeping the energy of a shooter like Halo. The squad based element is really where the game shines. Each character has special talents that will allow you to destroy your enemies and make it through a difficult level without losing your squad members. For those of you who don't like thinking things through but go in guns blasting, be prepared for a lot of deaths.
The downside of the game is primarily in the lack of options offered. All the levels are outdoors and the buildings that you can enter are pretty bare. Likewise, the levels have a tendency to be pretty similar. Death match options are weak as well (bots are what i really want), and in general the game has no options at all other than changing sound levels and whether or not your control is inverted. This is not the game to replace Halo 2, but is a must own. If you are a fan of shooters who likes co-op and stealth this will probably become your favorite game.
Very pleasantly surprised- it actually lives up to the hype!

Unlike the recent release of Matrix, with all kinds of hype partly caused by the movie, this game lives up to what I had hoped.
Over a year ago I read an article about this game being made in Xbox magazine, calling it the "next Halo", or almost as good.
I always will have a soft spot for Halo, but this game really delivered. It is not a Halo copy, or copy of ideas, but the gameplay, controls, weapons, diversity in missions, amazing computer graphics are all what I had hoped for in this game that was reviewed over a year ago as going to be a great one.
Good: Good story behind the game- very diverse and keeps you interested. Also using weapons and moving the characters is very user friendly, with a large, fun selection of weapons. What can I say, the graphics are amazing, especially in the last few missions. This game leaves you wanting more.
Bad: I have trouble thinking of much. Ok, a couple minor issues. The ending was a little corny where 1) they stole ideas in the final scene with the planes flying (from the movie: Star Wars), 2) and at the very end the 4 of them after saving the planet walk off into the sunset.... Ok not that big a deal but was a little stupid.
But to be fair, this really is a great game.
One tip off finding a good game: if Microsoft decides to outright buy the rights to the game made by another company, like Halo and Brute Force, you know this will be a really good game. I am not for or against Microsoft as a company, but I do respect their products.
Not Bad

A good enough game but definitely not the threat to Halo I
thought it would be.The story line and characters aren't as
interesting as Halo but it's still a blast to play.Controls
are tight and graphics are nice...A better script and a little
more imagination would have put it over the top.Still,it's a
good shooter that will fill the void nicely untill Halo2 and
Fable come out.
Oh yeah!!!!

This game has been in the making for years...as you can tell by playing the game. The stunning visual affects and the artistic worlds bring this game to life. You can take control of any of 4 members on your squad to face the many different enemies in the game. If you like Halo then you would love this game, the game play is smooth and operable and the controls are very easy to learn. The game starts off with in your face action giving you the opportunity to blow some bad guys away. The artificial intelligence of this game is astounding. The characters get smarter as the game goes on and in the end you are the one standing triumphant. The missions are long and soon get to the point of being difficult, but manageable. I recommend this game to anybody that loves some in your face action.

This game is good but not the best co-op game i've played splinter cell chaos theory is. But this is fun and for that guy who thought that you could only give commands to one person at a time thats not true what you have to do is highlight the person you are being and then a list of commands will come up and then highlight your whole team and give the order it does work and makes the game a bit more tactical. I do like this game and its fun to play with friends.
Just bought it

I have just bought this game and I have to say this is an AWESOME game. This would be a perfect game to play on Xbox Live, but there is downloadable content and that is good enough. The 3 best things about this game are sound, graphics and gameplay. These 3 things are just spectacular for Brute Force. If you liked Halo, be sure to buy this game.

I don't feel like writing a whole review, but I highly suggest not going out to buy this game b/c it will be the next HALO. It's not. I picked it up yesterday from EB and I must say that it is not the stellar game it was supposed to be. I enjoy it and will not return it, but it is not HALO and should not be compared to it. Unless you are really looking for a shooter or you enjy these games I would go rent it first. It's a good game but not a great game

Bought this game used and then it sat on the shelf for a while. Eventually I tired of replaying old Halo levels and decided to give Brute Force a try. It's not as good as Halo. The interface isn't as good, the story not as involving, but it was still a lot of fun.
The biggest difference is that you are commanding a team, not just one guy. You need to be sure to tell everyone what to do (or they will run off and do something else). Depending on your situation, you select who to use. Sometimes you need stealth, sometimes guns, sometimes just someone able to see the enemy.
Knowing who to use is everything in this game, and not only who you are playing, but how the other characters are to back you up. Do you want them following you in for fire support, or hanging back while you go in alone. Maybe you need them to guard something while you take care of clearing the way ahead. Work on your team tactics and have fun playing the different characters. Each one has times when they are useful.

Brute Force is a decent game, but brings nothing new to the table. It is just a basic, linear run and gun with poorly executed strategic elements. First of all, you can play through the entire game with Tex (the trash talking heavy weapons squad member)and just tell your squad members to stay behind while you mop the floor with the aliens using dual mini guns. But if you want to 100% every level(like me), you will have to beat every mission on all three difficulties(standard, hard, and Brutal)and kill everybody in the level, complete all primary and secondary objectives, find the hidden DNA canister in each level which unlocks new multiplayer characters, all without losing a single squadmate. And the levels can be LOOOOONG(Seers on the Bayou). Now this forces you to use stragegy, but it's boring. First, sniping is hard to do because people who you can't see from a high vantage point without zooming in see you immediately and start shooting with perfect accuracy. There goes the sniping, by the time you zoom in and get the crosshairs over someone, half of your life bar is gone. And, in order to use strategy, you have to switch between characters and kill a few enemies at a time. Why? Because the squadmate AI is too stupid to do anything on its own. You can't set someone up at a vantage point to snipe, they just sit there. Which brings me to my next gripe about the command interface. You can command any member of the squad to do four useless things that don't make the game a tactical shooter. You can tell them to move somewhere, provide covering fire, fire at will, or stand ground (my favorite). So if you are trying to 100% the game, you can't have the AI enter into combat, because they get themselves killed. Calling Brute Force a tactical game would be like calling Tekken Tag a squad based tactical fighter. Now about the squad...
Tex is the best team member. He has the most health and carries the heavy artillery. He has the berserker special ability which allows you to whip out dual guns until his stamina runs out. Brutus is a dinosaur looking alien who runs on all fours. He has the second best health and can carry the same types of weapons as Tex. His special ability is Spirit of Vengar, which is only useful in one part of the game where you go through a valley shrouded in mist. He goes into a mode sort of like night vision which makes enemies clear in dark places. He also regains health while using this ability. Hawk is the scout and the weakest character by far. Her special ability lets her turn invisible, but it doesn't last long enough to be fun. Lastly, Flint is a synthetic female sniper. Her special ability lets you auto target enemies with the sniper rifle.
Where will your squad be going and what kinds of enemies will you be capping? you will travel to various environments, my favorite of which is the Treetop villiage that looks like it's taken directly out of star wars. Other planets aren't that interesting. They all pretty much look the same, and the game gets repetitive. Thankfully there are a variety of enemies. You shoot terrorists, Shrike, little buddhist aliens, the Feral outcasts, These little fire hounds that rise out of lava, and weird spiders.
The graphics on Brute Force are pretty good. Especially during the cutscenes, in which the characters are so heavily detailed it seems they are alive. The lip-syncing is just about perfect and the voice acting is good. As for the story, it is practically non-existant. There is trouble on a planet, you go to investigate. It's like the Grand Theft Auto 3 storyline, random missions, but they are all for the same cause.
Should you buy this game? At this price heck yeah. Just know what you are getting. The game is short if you just play on Standard, but it does have co-op and deathmatch to keep you busy.
Rating-C
Peace.
