syberia was a great game, the plot the graphics and the voices were a pleasure to become immersed in. i also really like point and click type of games. the puzzles did not fry my brains and have me running for a walkthrough, (yes, quite the shock)
i think most people will really enjoy this game.

i was expecting something commensurate with the reviews and awards this game received. i was a bit disappointed. initially the storyline is mysterious and intriguing -it really sucks you in, but instead of developing it trails off and fizzles. the ending is abrupt and a huge anti-climax. its like one of those movies that starts off well but then goes nowhere and just suddenly ends. most of the puzzles (if you want to call them "puzzles") rely on you being on the look out for obscure things to click on. the dialogue and the relationships between the characters are corny, bordering on just plain stupid. (to be honest, i didnt like the longest journey. The two games are similar, so you may want to ignore this review if your taste in games differs from mine). to its credit though, the game does have stunning backdrops and an impressive soundtrack. for a while it even sucks you in. i didnt really have any technical problems. I ran the game on a laptop, there was some graphics glitches but it was still playable, i think there were some minor sound issues aswell.

Amazing, Enchanting, Captivating, and even MOVING

I've played most every game. I am a 50 year old man. I am not some impressionable idiot. And let me tell you something--this game is one of the most entrancing, beautiful, artistic, moving, and involving games I've ever had the pleasure to encounter AND I was able to give it happily to my 10 year old niece and know she'll be just as enchanted. It does get a little wordy at times, but wow--the art, the concept, the plays-fair-with-you-instead-of-cheating-like-most-games puzzles. This has EVERYthing. Get it. Treasure it. I can't wait for the sequel.

One of the Few Adventure Games Actually Worth Playing!

I own many adventure games, but 99% of the time I don't bother to complete them or play them beyond an hour or two. Syberia, however, was an exception. This game is beautiful and intriguing. You really do sort of get caught up in Kate Walker's journey. The locations are very interesting and the puzzles are not that difficult. Very memorable characters, too. The musical soundtrack is also very high-quality and adds to the game immensely. Highly recommended. I have yet to buy and play Syberia 2, but I'm sure it will be just as awesome and great as the first one was. One other note -- the premise in Syberia is definitely not realistic. Just thought I'd mention that in case folks were expecting a realistic-style adventure -- something that COULD actually happen in real life. Great game! Go buy it, play it, and live it!

Wonderful! Magical! Both Syberia and Siberia II

What a wonderful game! It's magical, the music is incredible, the artwork stunning....What a wonderful relief from games full of violence and anger. The characters have personality, the story plot is wonderful for any age, and the places you go are to so very historically European in every detail. You may have to hone up on some basic mechanical and engineering skills a bit to figure out some of the puzzles, but you may surprise yourself and find you have a knack you never knew about!

What a painful waste of time!

I don't understand how this game gets good reviews. The dialogue is horrible, the characters are unlikeable, and the action is boring. I wish I'd steered clear of this one.

Great fun!

My sister and I played this game on vacation--we loved the graphics, the environments (they kept changing, which we found helps you to not resent the game if you're stuck, which happens) and the story. Some of the voice acting was pretty good, some of it was really laughable (the eastern european man who trills EVERY 'R' to excess!) but overall it was a much richer game than the Nancy Drew that we usually play now. I can't wait to get Syberia 2.

A nicely crafted tale.

Syberia is more of a cinematic game than an interactive game. Adventure gamers will love this one, it truly brings the genre into perspective in a time where it is dying. It is a beautiful setting, a beautiful story and a present atmosphere throughout. This kind of storytelling and experience is found nowhere else but in the adventure game. Rarely do any action filled FPSs or overhead strategy titles achieve this. Syberia passes, with flying colors.

As mentioned the story and setting is exceptional. There are times where you might have to stretch credibility but for the most part it is very involving and delightful to watch. The game is a 3rd person adventure rather than a 1st person adventure. Therefore you feel more as if you are controlling the character rather than being the character, which most 1st person adventures fulfill. This is also in part due to Kate Walker's personality which is played up a lot through the game, through things like phone calls. I found these phone calls and melodrama a bit unnecessary, but it hardly pulls you away from the game too much.

The puzzles are easy for an average adventure gamer. A newbie to the genre or just a casual fan picking up the game because it looks good won't find it as hard as certain other games in this group. There are moments which are tedious, and it isn't helped by the fact that walking from place to place again and again isn't that fun in Syberia's locations because for the most part they are static with some atmospheric movement, and it feels like a burden. However, when first moving around the locations you will feel very amazed at the setting. There are also a lot of amusing moments between characters and Kate Walker.

In conclusion, I would reccomend Syberia to pretty much anyone. It's not too hard, and not too easy, the story is very well done, as is the setting and atmosphere. It brings the adventure genre another gem to add to it's collection. Highly reccomended with 4 stars.

its just the best

This game has some of the most interesting and beautiful graphics I've seen in a long time--very much like Myst. Unfortunately, while graphics are vitally important to many folks' enjoyment of a game, they (duh) aren't the only reason I play. This game has two major flaws that earned it only a three star rating: too many times I was forced to run back and forth over the same territory in order to listen to dialogue that would allow the game to progress, but the dialogue was not in itself enlightening. It was obviously a trick to make the game seem longer and more difficult than it is. The other issue, related to the first, is that it is too easy. I did not need the hints in the dialogue to blast through this game in three days! Fun, beautiful, but shallow.
