Strikers SUCKS

This game is NOT worth $20. It's barely worth $5! I can't believe that I got stiffed $50 when it came out! The controls are mediocre, and you can't even use the goalie (you have to trust the dumb CPU, which misses a lot) You can only switch characters to the one (on defense) who is closest to the ball, and (on offense) who has the ball, so you can't use even the simplest real soccer play. For example, you can't use a give-and-go because the CPU won't move around the defender. Also, the total lack of penalties makes it ridiculous. I know someone who gets an advantage by giving the ball to the defense, then slamming the player with the ball into the ground and making off with the ball. The out-of-bounds area is replaced by, of all things, an impenetrable, high-voltage, electric fence. in short, a god-awful game, a first for Mario, and I don't recommend buying it for more than $10. OH MY GOD, THEY'VE MADE ANOTHER!!!

So far since I've been playing this game (Super Mario Strikers), it makes no sense. Get points and win the game. Very detailed huh?
In my honest opinion, I would rate this game 2 stars. Plus, the animations suck!
Sincerly,
A Mario Fan (peace out :P)

its fun for a time...then it gets old

the fact when you increase the level the only way to keep the ball from getting stolen is to knock the opponent constantly on his/her butt before they get to you makes it get boring on the legend level and eventually all the other levels are way too easy...the characters are fun, super kicks for the main characters are nice but get corny at times, and the goal-keeper seems to make amazing saves but then allow the easiest goals...its not pure soccer and you know that going in but it should still be a bit more realistic

GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is just so much Mario these days for Nintendo's vast amount of video games, it can almost make your head spin. For the past several months, he has appeared in several great games for Nintendo's Gamecube system. First, he and his friends and enemies wowed us with the thrill of baseball in Mario Superstar Baseball. Next, he tried it again to the beat of Dance Dance Revolution with his own wave of the arcade clasic. Last month, he also scored big with the return of the board game classic in Mario party 7. Now, the turn of the single chant of Soccer strikes, and it happens to be a goal.

Super Mario Strikers for Nintendo's Gamecube is a rock'em, sock'em sports game, where Mario and friends tackle on the world of soccer. The game is themed with soccer through Nintendo's uniqueness without any loss. In the game, you can choose your captain from Mario or Luigi, to characters like Donkey Kong and Yoshi. The game also features methods of tricking your opponents from scoring a goal with weapons like the koopa shells, electric fences, and banana peels, similar to Mario Power Tennis. The control is a bit complex at first, but it is very easy to pick up with a little practice, and the graphics are really superb for anybody who loves to score a goal. The game also includes some terrific mini-games to help you score and control your characters.

All in all, Super Mario Strikers is a well-recognized soccer game for anybody who owns the Nintendo Gamecube. This is a great purchase for any die hard sports fanatic, or for all of us who have been longtime fans of Mario and company. Considering there haven't really been at all many soccer games for the Nintendo Gamecube, this one scores big.

Better than Baseball, but not as good as Golf

Dont Get me wrong, this game is good. Way better than the baseball game. BUT it is not amazing, i like it but it is just lacking sometthing. For one, it is too hard. Two, You cant control the goalie so all the effort is is in stopping them from shooting ala the old nintendo hockey games. So dont expect any shut outs. You cant really control the shots and any fancy shots are very limited. One the flip side it is fun, the graphics are great. The nintendo humor is there as the celebrations are great to watch. The game speed is good. Most soccers games are so slow not this one. IT moves really fast and that i like. So it is good. But it may get old. Bottem line is this, if you like the mario sports games, then you will like this. Worth a buy.

I Am Anti-Soccer, But I Love This Game!

Perhaps it is the Mario World theme that made me like this game so much... Could be the fast and strategic action. I dunno. But I am hugely opposed to the game of soccer - I think it is a wretched sport. HOWEVER... I started off playing Super Mario Strikers at the electronics stores only to find out later that I can't get enough of this game! Who'd have thunk it?

Super Mario Strikers combines the classic Mario World characters with fast and fun features designed to bring out the coolest parts about soccer. And, of course, the tournament mode and the multiplayer games just push the great game concept over the brink.

My favorite part is the strategy within the game of soccer that is so overly pronounced in MSS, namely, getting out front, then cross-passing to your teammate coming up across the field but behind you. As you power up your kicking foot - pointing to the quarter of the goal you wish to attempt penetration - the game slows down to get the anticipation up. Then, your player boots the ball with a powerful affect - the slowing down action obviously makes the kick look like a rocket! - and the goalie (who is automated) dives for it.

So awesome...

I also love the take-out slides. I appreciate obliterating opponents, even when unnecessary.

Anyway, take it from a guy who can't stand soccer - Mario Super Strikers is a great game that can be fun for anybody. Unlike the other Mario sports titles, however, this is one game where the single player mode might be the more fun. But of course, you can't sit there and talk trash to yourself, can you...?

Fun!

Played this is in a retail store. My 7 and 5 year old were able to work the game, so it doesn't seem too difficult. It was lots of fun and one of the better sports game I've seen for Gamecube in a long time. Graphics are great and lots of characters to choose from. Will update this review once game arrives and kids get their greedy little hands on it. Hopefully Santa will deliver this on time!!

Update: the review above was written when the game was not available to the public. Obviously, it is now and we own a copy. It's as fun as the preview we played... a little hard for my little ones, but it looks great and it a blast to play. I'd say get it and enjoy!

Fun yet Violent!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 5

Yet another sports game comes into the mushroom kingdom. Mario and his gang are now playing a very violent game of soccer. Yes this game is the best sports game but a little violent. There is an eletrical fence around the field where you play so when the soccerball hits it, it bounces right of the wall. If someone touches the fence they scream a terrible scream that you don't want to hear and when they are electricuted you see their bones and organs EEEWWW!!! Many objects are violent to throw around like a bomb. KABOOM the player lies on the ground for 30 seconds how mean, and there is no music!

here is how i rate it
1.Graphics-A
2.music (none)
3.voices C-
4.fun A+!

I WOULD RECOMEND THIS GAME!

Fast and fun challenge

The game starts off easy, Shoot Pass Steal. This takes about 30 seconds. The control of more advanced moves are very intuitive as well and it quickly becomes not about how to play the game but how to play the game well.
I've played lots of Mario Golf, Tennis, and Kart, but Strikers is the most challenging so far. Usually you can plow through the first few cups before breaking a sweat, but it took us quite a few trys to make it through even mushroom cup on the normal difficulty.
The graphics are great, with nice motion capture(?) animation, fire, smoke, and slow motion action.
Unlike prior titles you are not force-fed saccharin soundbits every shot you take, it's more about an over-the-top soccer game than exploiting the franchise to make a buck.
One special note, for anyone who played NBA Jam titles: there is a brutal "shove" button (rather than the slide-tackle/steal) which will clear out your opponent. However, unlike the Midway NBA games your opponent is awarded a weapon/item if you smash a player who doesn't have the ball.

Minus points: 1. Loading time is long by GC standards. Maybe it's just they don't hide it very well. 2. The interface is pretty sparse. Not that I like obnoxious bouncy menus, but a little more perhaps. 3. Possible CPU Assistance(?). I'm not sure, but it seems like your goalie becomes confused if you're playing well. The CPU seems to make some incredible shots if down in the last 30 seconds. Maybe not, but that's what it seems like.

A great buy for you and your friends. The best addition to the franchise since Kart, I think.
