Played this is in a retail store. My 7 and 5 year old were able to work the game, so it doesn't seem too difficult. It was lots of fun and one of the better sports game I've seen for Gamecube in a long time. Graphics are great and lots of characters to choose from. Will update this review once game arrives and kids get their greedy little hands on it. Hopefully Santa will deliver this on time!!
Update: the review above was written when the game was not available to the public. Obviously, it is now and we own a copy. It's as fun as the preview we played... a little hard for my little ones, but it looks great and it a blast to play. I'd say get it and enjoy!

HI EVERYONE!
I love Mario games; sports, action- you name it; I love it.
But it gets kinda tiring if all you do is kick and run. Don't get me wrong; I like the game! But those who don't like the same thing everytime- don't buy it.

This is a great, fun, game for any generation of player. Honestly, I think most gamers have forgotten how to have fun - and that's what this game is, pure FUN. It has pick up and play simplicity, yet has depth through power ups and moves you'll learn as you play. My kids, 10, 7 and 5 LOVE this game. I, ahem, get by [...] kicked by them, but that's what Dads are for. Great family fun!

This is definitely my favorite game of the year (including 2005). I'm incredibly surprised it's not as big as Mario Kart yet. Before I bought it, I was thinking, "eh, soccer?", and "eh, sports?", but really, it's so much more than a soccer game. The difference between Mario Strikers, or Mario Soccer, and any other soccer game is great. You throw turtle shells, you tackle people, you bomb people, you freeze people, you kick people in the face with the ball and make them dizzy (including the goaly, resulting in an awesome goal), and of course the super strikes are really fun, but challenging as well. That's another thing about this game, it's also challenging. There are four different difficulty levels that work out perfectly. Obviously you should start out with rookies and move upward. I've been playing several hours a day for about three weeks now and I'm still working my way up to beating someone on the legendary difficulty.
Fifty dollars is a small price to pay for this game, I swear on it. So go out and buy it... thank me later.

This game keeps my 10-year old and 7-year old busy. They get so into the game that they are on their feet jumping as they play. Mario games have never let us down.
Another Great Mario Game

I'll admit, my first reaction to Super Mario Strikers was skepticism. Another Nintendo ploy to make money by slapping Mario's name on some sport. But, once again, Nintendo makes me eat my words. To put it simply, this game is pure hectic, frenetic fun. Essentially the basics of soccer are present, but this game is more about slamming your opponents into electrified walls and throwing bob-ombs or shells at them when they're out of your reach. Then slamming them into the electrified wall. I know, it sounds too violent for Nintendo's Gamecube, but it's true. And it's every bit as fun as it sounds. Don't worry too much though, moms, because unlike real soccer, no one ever gets hurt. And the craters on the field disappear eventually. (Once again, not kidding.) Having played soccer myself, however, I was afraid that these unorthodox tactics might take away from the experience. They don't. What they do, however, is succeed in making Super Mario Strikers one of the most fun Mario sport experiences available. And if you have friends you're in luck, because this game only gets better when it's a real live person you're slamming into an electrified wall. Seriously though, this is a great party game and is surprisingly deep. Combining items with your various moves make the more strategic player really able to dominate those who simply hit the "slam opponent into wall" button over and over. The only drawback of this game is that the frame rate occasionally slows, especially when you use the unlockable team.
Bottom Line:
Great, fast-paced, enjoyable game; you'll especially enjoy the multiplayer experience. If you own a Nintendo Gamecube and have enjoyed, or think you would enjoy, a Mario-themed sport, then you need to get this game.
