Slight, but fun

The veritable grab bag of Star Wars games currently available puts Star Wars and gaming fans at a bit of a disadvantage. For every quality title created under the Star Wars brand name, there are two lackluster, or downright disappointing, titles. For every wonderful "Jedi Knight" there is an unplayable "Jedi Outcast" and "Masters of the Tera Kasi". For every scintillating "Rogue Leader" there is an atrocious "Rebel Assault II" and "Phantom Menace" (video game version). Heck, even the sequel the unmatched "Rogue Leader" called "Rebel Strike" has garnered numerous disappointing reviews (I have yet to play it) for being merely a copy of its predecessor with a few additional, unsatisfying missions thrown in. When one considers the high costs of these games, one can become very wary of investing in them. Fortunately, that's why forums like the Amazon.com customer review sections are so valuable. In this particular forum, it is my intention to give gamers an idea of the quality of a relatively recent game based on the second prequel, called "The Clone Wars".

"The Clone Wars" is utterly devoid of the challenge and replay value of the wondrous "Rogue Leader". Its graphics are run-of-the-mill; its storyline is thinner than a sheet of paper (Anakin Skywalker is on some vague quest to take on the sources of some dark energy); and there's just not a great of reason to play this once it's been defeated. Those gripes aside, "The Clone Wars" is still an enormously entertaining game to play. Even with its routine graphics, the game designers were able to develop a number of visual appealing worlds. The varied style of the missions is also a plus. Anakin can fight on foot, upon a beast of burden, or in the skies high about the ground. Most of the missions aren't particularly challenging (with the exception of one taking place in an ancient mausoleum and the final battle), but that is of little consequence for this style of game. "The Clone Wars" probably most closely resembles "Starfighter" in its overall structure (among the Star Wars titles).

"The Clone Wars" is probably best appreciated if it has been purchased from a discount store. It's too slight to satisfy fans who paid full price for it. Still, it's a fun few hours of gaming.

Good game but not so great gameplay

I brought this game only a few days after it came out. It was really fun but the game sometimes can seen too straightforward. I mean there is a giant arrow the tells you which way you have to go in order to beat the mission. There is no oppertunity to explore and discover the level. In some levels you end up following a laid out path just shooting and shooting. Now this game is lots of fun if you're just into action and great graphics but first think about what you want in the game. It's a smart idea to rent the game first.

LucasArts hits the mark... barely.

I think it would be a little too much to say that "The Clone Wars" is an on-land version of "Rogue Squadron", but I did like it. The gameplay is at it's best, allowing for great vehicle controls and maneuvering. Sometimes the levels were too easy, yet sometimes they were too hard.
The storyline is a bit odd (a machine that sucks the Force out of people...?) and the boss battles [are bad]. The on foot action is horrible, but it's one of the only bad parts of the game. And if you want multiplayer action, this games a must.
LucasArts lived up to it's expectations on this game, but is that it? Most hard-core, 24/7 gamers won't like this game, since it offers nothing new. But I'm a 24/7 gamer and I like it... Could just be because I'm a Star Wars fan, though. My recommendation is that you RENT IT FIRST, then decide if you want to buy it. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's definitely for some.

An underrated Star Wars game

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2002.)

INTRODUCTION:
Whenever a new Star Wars game is released, there's plenty of marketing to be done. With each new film's release comes plenty of toys, products, and, of course, new Star Wars video games. Unfortunately, Star Wars video games, despite the films they are based upon being the magnum opus of science fiction, are often hit and miss in their execution. For every Rogue Leader, there's a Masters Of Teras Kasi to drag the reputation of the series down a notch. When Episode II was released, several video games came out around the same time. Among them was Clone Wars. Read on for my review of this game.

OVERVIEW:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released in 2002, around the same time as the Episode II film. The game features ground-based objective-oriented combat. It can be played in a single-player quest mode or multiplayer combat modes.

REVIEW:
This is one of the more underrated Star Wars games out there. It's nothing revolutionary for the franchise, but a definite step up from some of the utter nonsense that makes it onto systems. The game is interesting, because there is no other Star Wars game out there like it. In this game, you participate in vehicular combat (usually ground-based.) With objective-based gameplay that usually takes place on the ground, this game seems like a cross between Star Wars: Rogue Leader for the Gamecube and Spy Hunter (the more-recent remake version.) The action is fast and furious, and the thrill never lets up. One interesting thing to note - when you're firing at an enemy, a cursor appears on the enemy which makes them easier to track and shoot, as well as see how much life they have left. This is an awesome feature, and I really think Lucas Arts should integrate it into other Star Wars-based games. It's also convenient that the game lets you leave off on the portion of a mission you were last on when you fail, rather than making you start the whole mission over. This makes the game all the more appealing. Many of the Star Wars characters you know and love are in the game, along with many other characters and worlds, old and new alike. This is nothing revolutionary as far as games in the Star Wars universe go, but it's still entertaining, and the multiplayer mode only adds to the replay value. Of course, even a good game like this has problems. The graphics are a major one. When you're not in a vehicle, or when there are cut scenes, the graphics suck. This is a rare example of a game in which the gameplay graphics look better than the ones in the cutscenes! Gameplay also has its repetitive moments, as well as moments of confusion and frustration. The flaws in this game are undeniable, but this is still a very good game overall. When you compare the two multi-console games that came out in this era, this game and Bounty Hunter, this game is the winner. Sure, Bounty Hunter has better graphics, but overall this is the superior game. Buy it if you're a Star Wars fan.

EDITION NOTES:
This game has gone out of print, but copies seem to turn up in used video game shops on a fairly regular basis. It is in fairly high demand though, being a Star Wars game and all, so you might have to shell out some more cash for it than your typical used game - just be warned.

OVERALL:
Overall I've gotta say, I'm pretty satisfied with Clone Wars. No, it's not my favorite Star Wars game, but it's definitely up there. In a world of Star Wars games that are hits and misses, this one is definitely one of the hits. If you're a fan of all things Star Wars, this is one of the games you should consider owning. Recommended. Four out of five stars.

Great game

Campaign-mode gameplay moves between Rogue Leader / Battle of Naboo style vehicle action and Obi-Wan style Jedi action. But the multi-player modes are the most fun - from the head-to-head vehicle Demolition-like duels to "capture-the-flag" (i.e., base) and more. Overall, the graphics are well done and the sound is superb. Highly recommended for the Star Wars fan.

BAM! LUCAS ART'S took it up several notches with this kick A*! game. If you are playing Rogue Squadron now, please throw it away and get Clone Wars. This game allows you drive in different vehicles, take parts in large battles, or hit and run raids. Fly over strange and beautiful planets while fighting the Separatist Union. If I had to sum this game up in one word, it would be DAMN!

its awsome.

Fun Single-Player, Great Multiplayer

The Clone Wars in single player mode is a pretty fun action game. Most of the time, you are in a hovering fighter tank, but there are a few levels where you get to pilot a Republic Gunship, a speeder bike, and an ATT. Sometimes you even get to go out on foot with a lightsaber. There is not much strategy involved, and you are mostly just destroying enemies with blaster fire, lasers, and missles. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though. It is fun to pilot the different craft, and I thought that some of the crashes of the enemy ships were pretty cool. If you're into this type of thing, you'll probably have fun. If not, I guess you should just look elsewhere. The single player mode is enjoyable, but it is not quite as good as that of Star Wars: Rogue Leader. But, The Clone Wars does have something that Rogue Leader doesn't, and that is multiplayer. The Clone Wars has four different types of multiplayer. The first is Duel, in which you are basically just trying to kill your opponent(s) a certain number of times within a certain time limit The second, Control Zone, is sort of like King of the Hill. You must try to stay within a circular area for as long as you can in order to gain points. The third multiplayer mode is called Conquest. You choose a team (red or blue), each of which has two different vehicles, unique to that team. The blue team has the Republic's fighter tank and walker, and the red team has the Federation's fighter tank and ATT. Players must try to get as many outposts as they can and then try to destroy the opposite team's base. The outposts are small, simple buildings scattered across the terrain, and when you enter a neutral one, four gun turrets and two units (ATT or walker) are automatically produced. The units are essential in destroying your opponent's base, and you can give them orders using the D-pad. If the four turrets surrounding an outpost are destroyed, the outpost becomes neutral again. The last multiplayer mode is called Academy. There are two types of Academy; one is played with a vehicle from the game trying to destroy as many "waves" of enemy vehicles as possible with out dying, and the other is played with a character out on foot with either a lightsaber or a blaster, trying to destroy as many waves of Genosians and battle droids as possible. All of these multiplayer modes, except Academy, allow you to select an arena to play in. The arenas are based upon areas in the single player game. The multiplayer is quite enjoyable and fun. I highly recommend Conquest mode in an area called Kashykk. Overall, The Clone Wars is a good game, but not really a great game.

fun, fun, and more fun.

The title says it all. but hten why did i give it 4 stars. The game is fun but short lived. But thats only 1 player. Multyplayer is a compleatly different story.

You start off with about 5 levels, but the problem is you need to unlock the fun one's. But once you have... It's a BLAST. My friends and I always play this, even though i bought it a year ago. But you deffinatly need a big TV for the multiplayer with more than 2 people. other wise its hard to see what you're doing.

So lets see what kind of game we got here:

1 PLAYER GAMEPLAY: (7/10) not that it's bad or anything, but way to short. And most of the time you are in the little tank thingy, but there is some lightsaber action, but very little.

MULTIPLAYER GAMEPLAY: (9.5/10) Deffinatly the best aspect of the game. This is one of the places to get the lightsaber fighting. But if you dont have a big TV, its hard with more than 2 players.

GRAPHICS: (7/10) Not so bad you notice. It would be a lot more fun if the pictures were smother, but who's complaining.

SOUND: (6/10) Ok. Just like a lot of games, it has basic sounds like the lightsaber hitting stuff vut nothing too complex like footsteps.

LIFE: (3/10) This is what brings the game's rating down. Way to short. On that aspect you should just rent.

MOVIES: (8/10) There are about 10 movies that are really well made. no bulkyness or anything, very smooth. It even shows shadows and lighting. For a little while i thought they might even be real scenes from Episode 3. Who knows!

OVERALL: (6.75/10) Even though this doesn't sound like a good game, its better than it seems. But if you aren't thinking of buying it, at least rent it and see how you like it.

too easy!!!

My brother bought this game used for his gamecube. Between me and him, we beat this game in two days. TWO DAYS!!!! If I played this game by my self, I probably would have beaten it in maybe five days, maybe less. So, it wasn't very hard, and the levels weren't too long.

You are usually in some kind of hover tank shooting at gun turrets and other things like that. Your hardly on the ground with a lightsaber and your in a ship even less. They needed more air and ground levels. This game doesn't have very good replay value either. Once you beat it, you don't really want to play it through again.

The multiplayer is fun but gets kinda old. Your either fighting against a freind in some kind of hover tank or on the ground with a lightsaber fighting with your freind.

To conclude, this game gets 3 stars because it is fun the first time through, it isn't very difficult, and the multiplayer is entertaining for a while.

I suggest that you rent this game instead of buying it because it will get old. I think that it isn't worth the money to buy this game, and renting is cheaper than buying (glad my brother bought it used.)
