Earlier Games: 2-P mode, player one was Sonic, player two, Tails.
Sonic Adventure/SADX: ...Um, was there even a 2-P mode?
Sonic Adventure 2/SA2B: Versus Mode
Sonic Heroes: Versus Mode and Team Play modes

If you, like me, were playing Sonic the Hedgehog back in 1993 when the game first debuted, then you undoubtedly remember the classic game play that made the franchise what it is today and allowed it to withstand the seemingly endless onslaught of one mediocre 3D game after another.

Alas, this game is not the return to the classic 2D speed I had hoped, but rather follows in the footsteps of Sonic Adventure with its endless menagerie of characters, annoying camera glitches, and clunky 3D game play. If the first Sonic game you ever played was "Adventures" or its ilk, then you might like this sort of thing, but if you're looking for a real break from the tired rut Sonic has fallen into, this isn't it.

In the end, Sonic Team has created yet another pretty looking, but poorly playing game. The various "teams" are virtually identical in every way but ascetics, and in many cases the chose of which of the 3 "modes" to use is spelled out for you on in the level itself, removing even that decision from the player. And of course, there is the usual array of blind jumps, and the insane camera that has been a hallmark of every 3D Sonic game to date. In fact, the camera has an odd habit of pointing in the way it wants you to go, and not the direction you are actually going, which is particularly annoying during "Team Chaotix" inane collection levels when you have to backtrack.

Very good choice

A waste of time. Not for little brothers though. When we try to go somewhere he wont get off it. Sometimes, my Dad buys games, ($50.00) and he dosn't even play them.

Anyway. It's not that great.

Awesome but Doesn't Live Up to the Sonic Adventure Games!

This a one of the best Sonic games, but I'm not wasting my time sharing my thoughts in paragraphs. None the less, here it is

Gameplay: 4/5

You have four teams. On each team, you have a character meant for flying, speed, or power. You have to switch between characters in order to use their corresponding abilities. It come sometimes get frustrating, so I stick with the speed character since that's what drives all Sonic games. Enemies also now have small HP presented through numbers, similar to a live-action RPG.

Difficulty: 4/5 (medium-hard)

This game is about as hard as any Sonic game. There's an easy team (Amy's team) and a hard team (Shadow's team). The others (Sonic team and Chaotix team) are medium. Each stage is also very long and 1ups are scarce like checkpoints.

Storyline: 2/5

I hear people dissing Sonic Adventure 2. I support its storyline and it's awesome like this game's story is craptacular. If it weren't for the return of Shadow, this game's story might be as horrid as the E.T. video game is overall. Each team has a storyline at the same time as the others like in Sonic Adventure, but the fact each team has the same bosses and stages makes it annoying.

Characters: 5/5

Each team has three characters, (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Amy, Cream/Cheese, Big, Espio, Charmy, Vector), a good selection. One complaint: you never learn much about what happened to Shadow.

Graphics: 5/5

During all primary cutscenes, there is awesome CG animation that I could say rivals that of the Final Fantasy series. These cutscenes are scarce though. Aside from these, there have been a little amount of tweaks since Sonic Adventure DX.

what!

This game is ok, it isn't the best Sonic game I've played but being 3 characters at once really gives you an advantage so it's easy.

Yeah most people either love this or hate it but I just thought it was alright. It was a mediocre game plain and simple. For one thing the graphics dont look any better than the previous 3D Sonic games.Bright and colofful big deal.Ive seen it before.Controls are alright.Challenge well I have to admit the Dark Team is pretty damn hard but other than that if you want a challenge buy Resident Evil or Ocarina Of Time.Overall this was a very bland game and its a shame that not one decent platform game for this system has come out this year.
