forget all other weapons - just use the light sabre

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

This game is great fun, but I wish the light sabre wasn't so easy to handle and didn't automatically block rifle blasts - it makes it too easy.
Other than that - a reasonable storyline, nice scenery and merely OK AI. Somehow, this game lacks the punch of some other great games, e.g. Half Life.
but - if you're in the market for a good fun shoot 'em up - I can recommend this for some pleasing action.

Happy shopping

the game is like super cool! ive seen my friend play it and it looks awsome! lightsaber stuff is like really cool! and same controls as jedi outcast, so those who have played outcast will be in familer taritory. storyline is deceant. a badguy from the last game you encounter in this. you don't get to play kyle kartan, and thats a let down. but the game is great! and from what i have herd the leigth is decesnt. so yeah im really exited!!! i HIGHLEY reccomend it to star wars fans!

This latest Jedi offering has more good points than bad:

The Good:
- The ability to customize your character.
- More Force power options.
- More light saber moves/styles.
- Double-Bladed light saber or double-single sabre option.
- *Mission where you get to ride and fight in a speeder, kind of like a futuristic demolition derby, great fun!
- Riding Tauntauns.
- Very few stupid puzzles.
- Tons of light saber fighting opportunites!
- Raven Software (Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2) co-built the game.
- Force Grip power more fun than ever! (Build up your Grip power then use it to grab stormtroopers and drop them from cliffs, use them as shields, etc..)

The bad:
- A few boring, stupid missions, like picking up ship parts in the desert.
- Force Sense power = only good for stupid puzzle-centric missions.

This game is worth the money.

If You Enjoyed Jedi Outcast, You'll Enjoy Jedi Academy

Not everyone liked Jedi Outcast. For instance, I've heard many complaints about the lightsaber mechanics. I however loved Jedi Outcast and found Jedi Academy to be more of the same saber swinging fun. I admit, I'm a Star Wars fan, so maybe the ability to force push people to their death while the classic John Williams Star Wars music plays in the background is too much gaming bliss for me to resist but I still think this game would be fun for people not in love with the Star Wars universe. I'm sure it helps though to at least have watched the original trilogy. For those that played the first game, there are two significant changes. One is that your Jedi can now wield dual lightsabers (i.e. Anakin Skywalker vs. Count Dooku in Episode II) or a double-bladed lightsaber (i.e. Darth Maul in Episode I). The second largest difference is that you can now pick your missions instead of following a linear story driven path like Jedi Outcast did. There is still a terrific story in Jedi Academy and every so often you're forced to go on a specific mission to move the story but you're allowed a little more freedom than the other game. Perhaps my only complaint about this game would be a weak online community. Only time will tell if gamers will design their own modifications for the sequel but compared to other popular first-person shooters, there aren't many servers available for online play and most of them don't allow you to use your force powers. If you've ever desired to wield a lightsaber, this is the game for you! It's a fun title that breathes fresh life into the first-person shooter genre.

Worthy expansion, unworth full game

The game is plenty of fun for multiplayer but it is essentially just jediknight 2 with more sabers. All the powers and even the graphics are the same. Lucas arts could have made it much better by including the original Jediknight2 levels as they use the same engine and even the same weapons. Jedi Academy uses all the same weapons as JK2 it only adds one more as well as saber options. For Single player the game doesnt connect at all while there is an underlying plot there is no sense of continuity like there was in JK2, also the ability to choose a forcepower at every level off balances the game by giving you access to heal way to early. Also the graphics engine is to old now, with games like Half life 2 and Doom 3 released youd think lucas arts would have updated the engine. Jedi Academy is a decnet game but would have been more suited to an expansion pack than a full game

and as for a Pentium 3Ghz w/ 512mbs of ram and an X300 being a powerhouse computer, give me a break. X300 is the lowest end card of the current card generation, Powerhouse would be a 6800 Ultra or an X850XTPE, even my 9800Pro beats the x300 by leaps and bounds. 3.0 Ghz is now the LOWEND standard, by no means powerhouse at all. 3.4-3.6 is standard for intel and currently AMDs chips go all the way up to a 4400. oh and by the way standard amount of ram for a gaming computer is at least 1 Gig. Just becuase your computer was made by dell doesnt mean your computer is a "powerhouse" you might want to do some research first.

Outcast expansion...but fun!

Jedi Academy is a great game. Eventhough it uses the same graphics engine as outcast the detail didn't disappoint me. It is almost exactly the same to outcast except you can customize your jedi, choose your beginning weapons, customize your lightsaber, and choose the order or your missions. Only two new weapons were added: the heavy blaster and concussion rifle (very cool by the way). No great or amazing improvements EXCEPT for multiplayer which is excellent. Once you beat the extremely short first player missions it's great to duel against real people instead of the really unintelligent AI. My favorite improvement though is definately going to be SIEGE mode in multiplayer. It's awesome to make your way through the opponenets' base with different types of fighters. EX: demolitions, heavy weps., jedi.
To sum it all up, the game is similar to what an outcast expansion would be like but it still has enough changes to be its own game.

Totally Awesome!!!

Of all the games I have played that alow you to start from scratch and grow in the game this was one of the best.. To start off with only a couple of Jedi powers and then learn and grow and then to add to the fun have to decide between good and bad powers was great...
The graphics are great. seemless flowing between areas.

With the pending release of Star Wars Episode III, Star Wars fans the world over have been whipped into a veritable frenzy with the promise of further adventures and merchandise based on that famous Galaxy far, far away. With great anticipation, I like many other gamers awaited the release of the new game Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy from the creative minds at Raven Software and Lucasarts. The game is a 3D shooter that is set ten years after "Return of the Jedi" when the New Republic is being menaced by the evil remnant of the Empire that seeks to reclaim their former status as rulers of the galaxy, and a mysterious cult of Sith warriors. Players are able to select their characters sex, species, and clothing as you start as a Jedi apprentice. Before long, players find themselves working with Kyle Kattarn (The players character from previous chapters), as the duo embark on a series of missions designed to uncover the mystery behind the Sith cult and the threat it poses to the Jedi and New Republic. Players also get to embark on a number of solo missions and they game allows players to select from a variety of missions in addition to the core missions of the game.

The artwork of the game is outstanding as the look of everything from ships to bars is authentic to the Star wars setting. Seeing the passenger ships come and go as well as listening in on conversations of characters in the game was amazing. On more than one occasion, I became totally immersed in the story and settings and was in awe of the detail and complexity of the game. I especially enjoyed the Hoth levels, as it was great to explore the Rebel base from "The Empire Strikes Back" and ride a Tauntaun. Other locations of note included Coruscant, Yavin 4, and Tattooine in addition to a host of new locations.

The dazzling away of weapons available is good but nothing compares to using the lightsaber and force powers that allow players to perform a wide variety of functions ranging from enhanced leaps, speed, pushing, pulling, healing, and some offensive moves such as force lightening and choke. When using the lightsaber, the view switches from first to third person and allows players a wide range of arch in which to attack and defend. My favorite tactic is to use the force speed during attacks to move circles around foes as I dispatch them. The game offers some fantastic challenges, as players have to use their minds rather than rely solely on combat to complete the game. The sound effects are simply the best I have heard in a game in a long time and the ever-present Star Wars music perfectly sets the tone for the adventure. Players will take delight in seeing some familiar faces in the game as Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca at various stages of the game is a nice touch.

I do not want to spoil the game so I will refrain from mentioning more of the settings and weapons that players have in store for them but suffice it to say, they will not be disappointed. Jedi Academy is by far the best game in recent memory and easily the best Star Wars game ever created. The Multiplay factor of the game is outstanding as there are several styles of online play that would warm the heart of even the darkest Sith Lord. My favorite is the siege mode where players form teams and select ability classes to complete missions. If I had any flaws with the game I would say that having to reset my controls for certain Force Powers and graphics every time I loaded was a pain and that some weapons would fire now and then on there own. This is a minor compliant for what is destined to be a gaming classic and a very worthy follow up to the fantastic Jedi Knight series.
