I love lucasart games, but i'm afraid they crashed and burned on Jedi Academy. The levels are extremely short, and the game was way too easy. Let me give you an example. You've played Jedi Outcast, right? Take the first reborn you meet on the padawan difficulty setting, and that's how hard the Dark Jedi's are on the Jedi Master difficulty setting of Academy. Many times i've killed jedi's before they've even ignited their lightsabers. Pure luck if that happens on Outcast. As for the levels, if you have indeed played Outcast, imagine the level where you acquire your lightsaber. Often times that's the maximum size of the levels in academy. It took me approximately 30 hours to complete Outcast. It took about 7 to complete academy. The one thing I liked about academy, and yet was dissapointed in Outcast, was that you choose your destiny, be it dark side or light. But Lucasarts made the turning point far too close to the end of the game. And the turning point is optional, as opposed to the morality bar in Dark Forces II. I thought that this destroyed the potential dynamics of Academy. If I had it my way, you would either be seduced by the Dark side, or stay on the light side, according to your previous choices. This is only my personal oppinion however, some people might like it that way. While I don't hold it against Lucasarts, they made their fair share of mistakes in this game. I would recommend this game only for someone just getting into video games. Otherwise, don't waste your time. If you haven't played Jedi Outcast, buy it instead, regardless of the price. It's worth it. In fact, if my house burnt down today, with all my games, I would gladly pay $60.00 for the game, even though I've completed it. If you have played it, play it again on Jedi Master. I garantee, it will be much more satisfying than playing Academy. I've been playing games for the majority of my life, and have never seen a better game than Outcast, and while it's still fun, i've never seen a more poorly planned game than Academy (no offense intended, Lucasarts, and I commend you on Outcast). If you are terrible at video games, this is a goody. While these attributes can be passed off as innocent mistakes, the story was very poorly done. With little or no depth, as opposed to the sensatiable twists, turns, and mysteries of Outcast. In short, life is too short to hold room for Academy. Buy Outcast if you haven't already. You won't regret your choice. You just might with Academy. Good Luck, and May the Force guide your choice.

Can't say I'm too impressed. The new sabers are a nice addition, all be it available a bit late in the game. The new moves are nothing but eye candy, as is the character creation. The light/dark choice was a complete let down, after playing DF2:JK. The mission tier system, while a good concept is seriously flawed. Some of the force powers from JO multiplayer are a nice addition to SP. The multiplayer side could be good, if not for the community. It's basically dumbed-down JO. I'm not too keen on the force restriction on special moves, ahh no more rage-speed-DFA destroying. Nobody seems to fight, instead everyone stands around & chats, & punish people with their user made mods, should you try. EX; server admin can kill you, put you to 'sleep', & other ridiculous things through 'admin-mods' which are basically server side cheats, for as much as lighting your saber. Not exactly the games fault, but the communities. Just letting those who play games for the MP competitive scene know that they may want to skip this title, as I should have.

First of all, there are a ton of reviews for this product but the customer reviews here don't apply to this game! This game was just released, but the reviews are dated from last year and refer to old Lucas Arts games.
That said.......this is a "nice" game but it leaves a lot to be desired. To defeat some of the tougher dudes and even the bosses, just find a high perch and keep shocking them with your dark force lightning power. They die easily without a fuss. Most of the Storm Troopers just stand idley by while you shoot or rip through their comrades with the light saber.
I played this game on the second hardest setting and I was finished in 7 hours!!! Yes, $50 and all I got was 7 stinking hours of mediocre game play!!!
I honestly believe if you are over 13 years old, you will be disappointed. There are some "Star Wars" loyalists out there that will say this game is great. Hey...I love the Star Wars trilogy too, but that does not make this game any better guys!
It does not matter how mean or kind you are, it does not matter if you build up your Dark Force powers and use them alot. It has NO bearing or affect on game play. Truthfully, the Dark Powers makes this game easy to beat.
You get the options of customizing your characters looks and clothing and you can customize your light saber's hilt and color, BUT again this offers no bearing on the game play. Just simple eye candy to make it look like the programmers did a lot of work.
This game is not horrible but it is not much of an improvement over Jedi Knight II - that is the real truth.
If you played Jedi Knight II - wait for this game to come down in price. If you have not played any of the Jedi games, WAIT for this title to come down in price after Christmas...you will be glad you saved yourself some money.
Did I mention I finished the game in 7 hours!!!
Wait and save your bucks...games like Half Life 2, Doom III and others are just about to be released!

I do not like this game.
Jedi Academy (Jedi Knight III or Dark Forces IV) is a really really weird game.
Outcast was very very fun. And so far, the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces series was UNBELIEVABLE. When Jedi Academy was released, gamers rushed to the stores to buy it.
Unfortunately, most of them came back disappointed.
Pros:
1. Cool lightsabers, you can get your own saber color and your own saber style.
2. Okay moves, some of them are boring but they're okay.
3. Great multiplayer mode.
4. Interesting planets.
5. Ability to choose light side or dark side is fun.
Cons:
1. Terrible AI.
2. Most of the missions you go on you go alone with no one to help you.
3. No matter what species your character is, his/her voice sounds the same: human. The only voice difference comes from what gender your character is.
4. WAY too short; Outcast was MUCH longer.
5. Your character has no real importance in the galaxy.
6. I found it to be much much easier than Outcast, and I can't stand easy games.
7. HORRIBLE storyline. If this was a movie, it would hold my attention for about 10 minutes, then I'd be fast asleep with my head in my popcorn bag.
Overall, I think this game could've been a success if it was released as an expansion pack for Jedi Outcast, or if it was just a multiplayer game with no single-player mode.
too short and too easy

Whereas the original dark forces and subsequent games focused on puzzles within the missions, jedi academy was more concerned with fighting with light sabres. There was almost no use for conventional weapons, the lightsabre wielding adversaries were easily defeated just by pushing as many buttons on the keyboard as you could and as fast as you could. In dark forces II it took a long time to develop as a character with enough time to have fun with the force. In Jedi outcast you didn't have enough time to have fun using advanced sabre techniques, and in jedi academy it was overkill. I just would like to have seen a game that had more difficult mazes and puzzles in the levels . . . or maybe I'm just getting smarter . . . It literally takes about 6 hours of solid playing time to get through this one . . . oh wait, I can play it again and try to find all the secret areas. Wait till you can buy it used.

Let me start out saying Jedi Outcast was an awesome game. Great powers, Cameo voices by Billy Dee Williams(LANDO), and you went on a few missions w/ Luke Skywalker himself. The only returning characters from the trilogy that assist you through a level are Chewie and Kyle(your character from the last game). Bad Dialogue, stupid cut sceens, no graphic improvements. The only cool thing about Academy was you get to fight a little w/ Boba Fett, but of course, he doesn't die and he gets away so they can make another stupid game sometime. Bad ending, too many re-occuring enemies(like the same jedi assasin 100x ect)missions that are too easy, lots of glitching(you'll get stuck to the wall if you even touch it). Didn't get around to multiplayer, sold it to someone who wanted it. Stick w/ outcast or rent this game when it comes out on xbox.
well, you are a jedi

Jedi Academy is pretty much a let down. If I just use Jedi Outcast as a reference point, and got something equal to it, then I would have been completly happy. But I didn't. The good points are that you get to hack up bad guys with light sabers and use the force. A few of the missions are also kind of cool (the Hoth mission, and Darth Vader's castle). But that is it. The graphics are nearly the same, if not worse. And considering that I have had all kinds of crashes, lockups and performance problems that I diodn't have with Jedi Outcast, at all, something seems wrong. The levels are dull, boring, simple, and easy. If there were any puzzles, I didn't notice. Basically, you started a level, hacked up some bad guys, and went on to the next. Visually, the maps were uncreative, and reptitive. You seemed to leave one room, to enter another that looked just like it. It is a shame that Lucasarts took such a great opportunity to produce another great game, and instead put out what seems to be a product that had very little thought, or concern put into it. How you can follow up Jedi Outcast with a game that isn't even close in challenge or creativity is beyond me.

Do not buy this game. It sucks. there is no plot, and it is twice as short as the last two. All you do is go on stupid missions to become a jedi. Then you go to some temple and Tavion is there bringing back a dead dude and you kill her. Very boring. Nothing like the last two. If you still like Dark Forces do not buy this game.
