I love lucasart games, but i'm afraid they crashed and burned on Jedi Academy. The levels are extremely short, and the game was way too easy. Let me give you an example. You've played Jedi Outcast, right? Take the first reborn you meet on the padawan difficulty setting, and that's how hard the Dark Jedi's are on the Jedi Master difficulty setting of Academy. Many times i've killed jedi's before they've even ignited their lightsabers. Pure luck if that happens on Outcast. As for the levels, if you have indeed played Outcast, imagine the level where you acquire your lightsaber. Often times that's the maximum size of the levels in academy. It took me approximately 30 hours to complete Outcast. It took about 7 to complete academy. The one thing I liked about academy, and yet was dissapointed in Outcast, was that you choose your destiny, be it dark side or light. But Lucasarts made the turning point far too close to the end of the game. And the turning point is optional, as opposed to the morality bar in Dark Forces II. I thought that this destroyed the potential dynamics of Academy. If I had it my way, you would either be seduced by the Dark side, or stay on the light side, according to your previous choices. This is only my personal oppinion however, some people might like it that way. While I don't hold it against Lucasarts, they made their fair share of mistakes in this game. I would recommend this game only for someone just getting into video games. Otherwise, don't waste your time. If you haven't played Jedi Outcast, buy it instead, regardless of the price. It's worth it. In fact, if my house burnt down today, with all my games, I would gladly pay $60.00 for the game, even though I've completed it. If you have played it, play it again on Jedi Master. I garantee, it will be much more satisfying than playing Academy. I've been playing games for the majority of my life, and have never seen a better game than Outcast, and while it's still fun, i've never seen a more poorly planned game than Academy (no offense intended, Lucasarts, and I commend you on Outcast). If you are terrible at video games, this is a goody. While these attributes can be passed off as innocent mistakes, the story was very poorly done. With little or no depth, as opposed to the sensatiable twists, turns, and mysteries of Outcast. In short, life is too short to hold room for Academy. Buy Outcast if you haven't already. You won't regret your choice. You just might with Academy. Good Luck, and May the Force guide your choice.

Let me start out by saying that I've played all the Jedi Knight games since back in the old Windows 95 days. I'm a fan of this series, but as good as Jedi Academy is I wasn't able to give it 5 stars because of one simple reason ... KOTOR.
KOTOR (or Knights of the Old Republic) is another Star Wars game in which you can assume the role of a Jedi ... and in my opinion, KOTOR (and KOTOR II) does a better job. Even though Jedi Academy gives you a lightsaber to start with and offers more Jedi powers to control, the problem is, well ... control.
Jedi Academy requires you to use a complex set of keyboard and mouse controls in order to control your character ... and considering how hard the enemies are (even in easy/Padawan mode) you need the controls to be as simple as possible for combat. In KOTOR, you can do almost everything with just the mouse.
I consider myself to be an experienced PC gamer, so keyboard and mouse controls are nothing new to me, but Jedi Academy requires me to jump all over the keyboard to control my character. Maybe KOTOR spoiled me, but seeing how simple the controls can be makes me angry when I have to play a similar game with MUCH more complex controls.
Anyway, graphics aren't bad and voice acting is pretty good. If you like being a Jedi I still recommend this game, but if your only experience with Star Wars games is KOTOR or KOTOR II then you probably won't like the controls in this game. Also, this game ran flawlessly on my P4 2.8Ghz machine with 1Gig of RAM and an 128MB ATI card.
Excellent graphics and gameplay

I was amazed at how long the storyline was in single player and how different each area was. I also play the multiplayer with some brothers and it has been a lot of fun and challenging. I would recommend this to anyone that likes games.
Horrible AI and not much new...not worth $50...NO WAY!!!!

First of all, there are a ton of reviews for this product but the customer reviews here don't apply to this game! This game was just released, but the reviews are dated from last year and refer to old Lucas Arts games.
That said.......this is a "nice" game but it leaves a lot to be desired. To defeat some of the tougher dudes and even the bosses, just find a high perch and keep shocking them with your dark force lightning power. They die easily without a fuss. Most of the Storm Troopers just stand idley by while you shoot or rip through their comrades with the light saber.
I played this game on the second hardest setting and I was finished in 7 hours!!! Yes, $50 and all I got was 7 stinking hours of mediocre game play!!!
I honestly believe if you are over 13 years old, you will be disappointed. There are some "Star Wars" loyalists out there that will say this game is great. Hey...I love the Star Wars trilogy too, but that does not make this game any better guys!
It does not matter how mean or kind you are, it does not matter if you build up your Dark Force powers and use them alot. It has NO bearing or affect on game play. Truthfully, the Dark Powers makes this game easy to beat.
You get the options of customizing your characters looks and clothing and you can customize your light saber's hilt and color, BUT again this offers no bearing on the game play. Just simple eye candy to make it look like the programmers did a lot of work.
This game is not horrible but it is not much of an improvement over Jedi Knight II - that is the real truth.
If you played Jedi Knight II - wait for this game to come down in price. If you have not played any of the Jedi games, WAIT for this title to come down in price after Christmas...you will be glad you saved yourself some money.
Did I mention I finished the game in 7 hours!!!
Wait and save your bucks...games like Half Life 2, Doom III and others are just about to be released!

"Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy" is the latest offering from LucasArts, and I'm happy to say it delivers in many areas. At the same time, however, this new addition to the Jedi Knight family has its detractions, and definitely fails to live up to its predecessors.
Unfortunately, the interesting story that usually accompanies the line of LucasArts Star Wars game is painfully lacking here. "Jedi Outcast" had a storyline that could have easily been translated into a novel. The story surrounding "Jedi Academy", however, has a rushed and undeveloped feel to it. The result is an uninteresting (and dare I say boring) story that lacks most of the charm we've come to expect from previous installments.
That said, the game play is still magnificent, even to the point of rivaling "Jedi Outcast." Choice of light sabers is an excellent addition to the game and definitely increases the fun of lightsaber duels. There are many new moves as well, including special combinations that produce some great acrobatics. Another plus is the plethora of saber wielding opponents throughout the game. Unlike "Jedi Outcast", where saber opponents didn't appear until half way through the game, "Jedi Academy" introduces them at an early stage and they stick around for the length of the game.
The only downside to game play is the system requirements. These are much heftier than those of "Jedi Outcast." At the same time, the graphics seem to have taken a plunge, which is odd considering the increased system requirements.
Overall, the game is well worth a lot. I wouldn't spend $40 on it, though. Wait until the price gets more reasonable.

Yes, I said the title, and I meant the title. I've never played a game from the FPS genre which I've played for so many hours on end. The single player has a lot of replayability, at least for me. You're able to select from 5 different races, and customize them from clothes, color of clothing, faces, and, in the case of the twi'lek, skin color. Then you create a lightsaber by choosing from a bunch of different hilts and 5 different colors. Once you're done with creating your character, sit back and enjoy the cool cut scenes, story, and gameplay.
While the single player is good, multiplayer is even better. I've spent hours playing against other players online.
The duel servers are fun, and a good way to improove skill. You wait in line as about 5 other people fight the current champion of the server. Once the champ is down, he goes to the back of the line and the person who beat him fights until he, too, is defeated. Duel servers disable force abilities and guns, so you have to rely on your raw saber skills to win, which is why I said these are good practice servers.
CTF and siege I don't really enjoy. I haven't played them enough to give them a full review, though.
FFA and team FFA are where the real fun and laughs of this game are. This is where you put the skill you built up on duel servers to use. Force abilities and usualy guns are enabled on these servers, besides the standard lightsaber. While jumping into a chaotic setting of 5 players all fighting eachother with lightsabers is fun, even more fun is blowing them all to pieces with a rocket launcher. If guns aren't your thing, you can also electricute them with force lightning. There's nothing quite as satisfying as meeting the current leader in frags near a ledge, and easily pushing him into a bottomless pit or lake of lava with force push.
If that's not enough, you can also select from 3 different styles of lightsabers (single, dual sabers, or saberstaff, which is what darth maul used). Also, you can choose from a ton of characters from the game to use. If playing as the game's final boss, or a stormtrooper with darth maul's lightsaber doesn't appeal to you, there's the character creation option from single player. If you're STILL unsatisfied, take a trip over to jk3files.com and download some fan-made skins, models, maps, and even new races to play as in multiplayer and single player. Some of the skins in my collection are Link (from Legend of Zelda), Spider-man, and Darth Vader. Some of the races are Chiss, the lizard race that Desann was, and even JAWA!
This game, and Jedi Outcast, for that matter, shouldn't be in the FPS category. The only reason they are is that you can use guns if you want to (you usualy don't, it's almost never a good idea in single player). They really need a new genre dedicated to them. I call it TPF, Third Person Fighter. After playing a while, you'll see what I mean. Using lightsabers take skill, and there are different combos and moves you can do by pressing certain things at certain times. For example, the rolling stab move is foward, crouch, primary attack. Butterfly is foward, then jump and attack at the same time.
I really recommend this game, it's a must have for fans of star wars or FPS or both.
Just Plain Fun

This game, like its predecessor Jedi Outcast, allows you to immerse yourself in the world of being a Jedi Knight and using a lightsaber and force powers to rip through the bad guys (or guys guys :-) ), and from the very beginning of the game. It's not hard to play (though getting down all the keys for the various powers you acquire might take some effort) but is VERY entertaining. My only let downs were 1. There wasn't as much character customization as I'd hoped, 2. The game is really more of a BIG expansion pack to Jedi Outcast, and 3. You can't skip some of the cut scenes. That said, it has amazing multiplayer and its single-player is just plain fun.
Fun Game

I really enjoyed one aspect of the game---variety
The game overall is good, but where the game is at is in the multi-play area. You can disregard the system requirements somewhat, I have 3 copies of the game for our network at home (ranging from AMDK7-650--AMDTBIRD-1.4, 512Ram, 64-128MB video cards) and In multiplayer it runs great.
The effects are good and the moves add some fun to it.
The storyline is a little sorry, I'd wish that they used 'real' cutscenes like in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (it's a little sad that they dropped the Dark forces name, I know a few people that would never know that it was DF if I haven't told them)
THEY BROUGHT BACK THE CONCUSSION RIFILE! Woot!
Single Player: 1)Fun
2)Fight Boba Fett
3)Most 'special' moves don't sap force energy
4)Alternate endings, depending upon force alliance
5)Mercnenary feel (selectable missions)
Multiplayer: 1)This is the part where this game shines
2)Power duel makes a nice 2v1 duel
3)Seige mode: makes the game feel like HL:Team Fortress Classic, the Avanti and dustbowl maps. (Classes, team objectives, special powerups)
4)Better balanced
My reccomendation---Buy it for multiplayer, great LAN party game, little shakky single. If you buy it for single, you may be dissapointed.
