I know I'm going to get a lot of unhelpful votes for this review. Why? Because people don't want to read a review that bashes the game they like. They just vote for the reviews that support their own views. So please, don't give me like 10,000 unhelpful votes just for expressing an opinion. I didn't like it but a lot of people did and that's ok.

Having bought a used gamecube, I got Paper Mario as one of the games. I thought I was missing out before, but boy was I wrong. This game is horrifically boring in every way possible.
Let's start with the graphics. They're good, and as you probably guessed, are 2D cel-shaded graphics for Mario and the rest of the world. Being a huge fan of Super Mario RPG for the SNES, I was extremely disappointed with this new appearance, giving it an extremely kiddy feel rather than the more mature feeling of Super Mario RPG. What a shame. It's comparable to the change in style between Windwaker and Ocarina of Time in the Zelda series, except that they were able to retain good elements and keep it excellent. Here they weren't. Still, the graphics are decent, and are part of the gameplay so I won't knock them down for it. 8/10

The audio in Paper Mario is a mixed bag. It has sound effects down and everything, but the music just stinks. It doesn't alternate and quickly gets boring. The lack of voice acting seals the deal, especially considering there's a lot of dialogue. 6/10

The gameplay is where it really shoots itself in the foot. The battle system is so boring, and you're confined to using Mario and a sidekick who is basically useless. There isn't even any equipment besides the badges you periodically get. Finding the Crystal Stars is both boring and mind-numbingly predictable. The only decent parts are the boss battles. Otherwise, there is just nothing fun about the gameplay. 5/10

The story is even worse. Save Peach and the world. That's the story in a nutshell. Same one they used in Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario and every single Mario game. Characters are predictable and stereotypical, plot is predictable and boring, and it just feels like Nintendo once again milking the Mario franchise. I don't expect Shin Megami Tensei here or anything, but at least something respectable. 3/10

Conclusion: Don't even waste your time or money on this horrible game. It's so incredibly over rated. I really wanted to like it, but frankly this is just another horrible cube RPG. I know there are a lack of them on this system, but rating this game high just to say you have a good RPG is just wrong. Once again, Mario is just being milked for all he's worth. Stay far far away. Overall: 4/10

The Coolest Paper Mario game EVER!!!

I have this game, and I passed it. It's totally cool! Here are the bosses of the game.

1. Chapter 1: Hooktail
2. Chapter 2: Magnus
3. Chapter 3: Macho Grubba
4. Chapter 4: Doopliss
5: Chapter 5: Cortez
6: Chapter 6: Smorg
7. Chapter 7: Magnus 2.0
8. Chapter 8:(4 bosses) Gloomtail, Grodus, Bowser, and Shadow Queen.

I actually passed the game, and it wasn't easy. The Shadow Queen has 150 HP. She can suck up 8 HP from you, bring out dead hands to grab you and take away 15 HP, and can confuse you using her breath. Oh, and there's also a secret level that's called the Pit of 100 Trials. When you reach the 100th floor, you fight Bonetail, and he has 200 HP. I beat him, and he was easy. Good luck on YOUR quest!

Just like the first one.. and by that I mean it's great.

All I can really say is that I've had alot of fun with the mario RPG series. It was a great idea that square enix brought in, and nintendo has refined it well in the last 2 paper mario releases, the GBA's own "Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga" wasn't too shabby either.

But anyway, from start to finish this game kept me glued. It's not short but I beat it within a week anyway. The game progresses through seperate "chapters" and almost every chapter has it's own uniqueness and quirkiness for you to discover. There are even little side-quests where you control peach and bowser's sides of the story in-between each chapter to make the transitions more seamless. It's a great setup and it works really well.

The story's silly but very well done. As you might've expected, the princess gets kidnapped, and true to the other mario RPGs form, bowser kind of gets left out. There's quite alot of dialogue in the game to help explain the story and some of it can be quite funny at times. It might not have the best unexpected plot twists but it still delivers as it pulls you through wrestling tournaments, train mysteries, and much more.

The gameplay is in classic RPG style. You run into baddies and proceed to the battle screen where you select your moves in a turn-based setup. What's always been fun in the Mario RPG series though is the way timed button pressed and small minigames play into it. For instance, one of the moves requires you to press a certain sequence of buttons as they pop up on the screen. Some of the more whacky ones include a game of hot potato with a giant bomb. I've always enjoyed the way nintendo has crafted the battle sequences and there's no disappointment here.

I think I'm gonna end my review and just tell you to buy or rent the game. Chances are you won't regret it. I didn't. 5/5

This has to be one of my favorite Gamecube games. Firstly, this game is long and entertaining. If you are a type of gamer like me the type that can beat games in a couple of days than this is the game to get. If you like games nice and simple this is simple to get the hang of, but boss stages and puzzles will last you a while. This game is no cake walk much like the first Paper Mario. It has a challenging RPG gameplay that will make nintendo fans shout. It's a real good kids game and has some hilarious dialouge. The best part is that you can do so many things in the game it's not like a straight forward video game there are several side quest. I'm still on the last boss finishing some side quest and after I do a load there is still a ton. If you like RPGs and like touch challenging games than Paper Mario 2 is the game to get.

The Best Mario Game Yet!

This game is a ton of fun if you are into platform games.
There are loads of partners (7 to be exact) to choose from and each partner is unique! You have to collect 7 crystal stars and a long journey has to be taken for each one!

The problem is that when you are talking to someone who is telling you what to do, it takes for ages!

You get different abilitys such as Plane, Roll etc. and they are all briliant!
I think the best bit is the battles, you have to fight bad guys when you bump into them on the field mode! Each crystal star gives you a star attack and they are all fabulous!

If you like platform games and/or fighting games then this is the game for you!

In depth gameplay, funny jokes, a thick plot, what more do you want?

Like i said in the title, this game provides everything. First and foremost I like having 4 files to save games in, this way you don't have to erase your game file that you worked hard on the first day you bought it. Oh and may I add that I finished the game in 16 hours (the quickest I have ever done it) so this game is NOT short lived, this is a great game. Second of all, the stages were fun, although a couple of them were a little depressing, (ex: Boggly Woods, Twilight Town, and, oh yeah... the Palace of Shadow definitely beats the pants off of both previously mentioned stages.) Although I think they were pretty creative with the idea for Mario to go to the Moon in Level 7 via a huge cannon. So it just shows that Nintendo is nowhere close to running out of good ideas they just need time that's all. But third of all, the partners you acquire were also good, although a little similar to Paper Mario 64. The stage that was the most fun was Glitzville. I had a lot of fun fighting these guys, getting a Yoshi full of attitude, and uncovering a sinister plot under the arena. So despite what these guys say about this game not being a deep RPG and how it is not for real gamers, yeah it's true, but should it really be compared to Metroid and the Legend of Zelda? Those aren't the type of game this is at all. This is a down to Earth non alien shooting a non sword slashing, (although Cortez did his fair share of that in Keelhaul Key) funny 2.5 dimensional game that deserves more credit than it is getting. So if you want to run around with a bounty hunter shooting aliens and accomplishing weird tasks be my guest, but in my opinon there is only one true hero closest to Nintendo and deserves the MOST credit, the one and only Mario, and he has not let us down with this newest addition to the Mario Lineup. I would reccomend this game to anyone that can read. Because honestly that is just about all it takes, common sense, and 3rd grade reading skills. If you have all of that, you should be set up. So don't criticize on what should be celebrated as one of the most in depth, most fun games of all time. Nice Job Nintendo!

This game is soooooo cool. I love playing the side quests and waching the small cut-seens. Here is what I rate the Game total:

Music 10/10

Game Play 10/10

Funny 6/10

Graphics 8/10

You can make Mario do many things including turning into a Paper Airplane and a Paper Boat. This game take 40 to 60 hours to complete so if you like long games this is for you. I would also like to tell you something to do in this game: Go to the Trouble Center located in the East Side of Rogueport and take on the trouble posted by ???, complete it for a very special reward. Note: you can only do this after Chapter 4.

One of the best games I've ever played

It's rare for me to spend a lot of time on any one game; I'm just not a huge gamer. That said, I've recently been picking up a few Gamecube games for my Wii, and Paper Mario TTYD blew me away.

Gameplay is fairly simple and easy; the turn-based battles are great for someone like me who won't spend hours trying to master perfect button sequences to launch special moves. The characters are entertaining, and at times it seems more like reading a novel than playing a game, one that the writers had a lot of fun with (I've found myself laughing at the game more than once).

I'm about 20 hours into the game and I would consider this one of the top 3 video games I've ever played. I'm definitely looking forward to checking out Super Paper Mario after I finish.

Edit: I've long since finished the game (it took about 50 hours, I think...time well spent!) I now have several dozen Wii titles, but with the exception of Wii Sports and Trauma Center, none of them even come close to this game. (Including, unfortunately, Super Paper Mario; it was a neat idea, but the execution falls far short of Thousand Year Door). If you have a Wii or Gamecube and don't mind reading well-written dialogue, you -need- this game.

Very fun. My wife and I play it together.

This is a very fun game. My wife isn't into video games very much. She purchased the GameCube and Wii mostly for me. I got this game planning on playing it alone, but my wife thought it looked cute, so she started playing it. Then, we started playing it together.

We played the whole thing together and enjoyed it so much that we've downloaded the original Paper Mario on the Wii Virtual Console and are now playing that together. I've never had a video game provide so many hours of fun together. I just hope they keep making more.

By the way, if you've played the original Paper Mario, we've found that this one is almost exactly the same. The battles, the plot, the characters, the mechanics, almost everything is exactly the same. But we love it! The graphics on this one (Thousand Year Door) are substantially better, though, as are the sounds. Some mechanics are a little more complicated, also.

If you enjoy cute Nintendo games, this one is perfect, especially for $20. We bought a second copy for some friends. If you're a hardcore FPS guy, maybe you should pass on it, though.
