I love this game, but it is pretty hard. Also, it is very annoying. The last few chapters are just a few examples. This is a fun game and will probably take awhile to beat. The last chapter is where I am at, and I pretty much quit on it. I got so frustrated on that chapter. Also, Chapter 2 is annoying. (Yes, it is only the 2nd chapter). It is like a never-ending tree with a never-ending maze! It is impossible to find your way around! No, a six-year-old will not have an easy time. I think that this game would be difficult for a six-year old, or seven, eight either. This game would be impossible for me without a strategy guide. If you get this game, I recommend you also get the strategy book with it. This game is a sequel to Paper Mario, but has more to it. Now, you can play as Bowser AND Peach at the end of each chapter. There are also twists and turns in the plot which make the game very exiting and interesting. Still, if you like a little challenge, I recommend this game.

My five year old grandson loves the Mario games. Paper Mario 2, however, requires a lot of reading. That meant that his mother had to sit with him while he played the game and read everything to him. She also said this game was more confusing for a young child than the other Mario games are.

This game is one of the best Mario games I ever played. It explains how to do every move and stunt. The characters have good personalities. It's challenging and fun. I love to use Mario's "papery" qualities (you can even turn into a paper airplane). The people who gave One star don't know what they're talking about; they, obvisouly, are horrible gamers. I would strongly recommend this game.

Back in N64's day, I got Paper Mario. It intrigued me, the fact being that all the characters were flat, but the environments were three-dimensional. A truly unique game.
Then Paper Mario for the gamecube came out. The first installment gave me such good fun that I decided to get this one. And boy, was I glad.
Paper Mario 2 shares the graphics that the first one had, so I can't say much about the graphics except that they are more solid and less blurry than the sprites were in the first game. Also, some of the characters are 2D and 3D in one; for example, Hooktail the dragon has flat polygons as surfaces, but all those surfaces combine to make a 3D dragon character, much like origami. This looked awesome.
There's something I'd like to say about this game's challenge. It is much more difficult than the first game ever was. Every boss delivers a sense of "Oh man, I don't think I'll ever win..." Whereas the bosses in the original Paper Mario were easily defeated; Bowser, the final boss, was killed on my first try. The boss that came before him was more difficult. It seems that Nintendo made the decision of upping the challenge in the next game to appeal to more gamers. I felt that this was an excellent decision. The final boss in paper Mario 2 was extremely hard and it took luck and skill to win. There is even an optional boss that is more difficult than the final one.
That covers challenge. I'll only say a little bit about the story itself: Peach has delivered Mario a map that may lead to some treasure, from a town called Rogueport, but when Mario arrives Peach is gone.
The game's theme is a unique one: you're in a storybook-like world, and everyone is, well...paper. The background is sort of like cardboard, and some strange cutscenes display this very well. The battle system is also unique: it is based on a theater stage. There is an audience, stage props can damage you or the enemy, and you can appeal to the crowd for more bonuses. I will not go too in-depth with this, seeing as how a character explains everything to you early on in the game. So basically, Paper Mario 2 is like a storybook-theater-type videogame.
As far as gameplay itself goes...the game flows pretty smoothly. But what I'm about to go in-depth with here is probably the greatest aspect of this game in my opinion, and is done better in this game than in any other videogame.
Throughout the Mario series, there are many "species" of creatures, baddies, and inhabitants of the Mario universe. It starts with simple turtles, then we have goombas and King Bowser, then there are chain chomps, etc. Hundreds of creatures litter Mario's world. The majority of these creatures are recreated in Paper Mario 2, and this recreation is done extremely well and really brings back the nostalgia of the older Mario games. Throughout the game, you will encounter different species of Mario creatures not only in battle, but in towns and such as well. Toads, penguins, different-colored friendly bob-ombs, koopas, etc. Every sprite in the game is different from the others, they each have personalities, and it makes the game's style spring out from the paper and cardboard foundation it was originally built upon. This game combines all other characters and their races and weaves it all together in one region and one adventure. Playing this game gives you a taste of what the Marioverse is actually like.

OK, first of all, everyone who says that there is too much talking and not enough killing is dumb. Do they even read the text? I have had this game for two years and have played through it three times. In the game, you must solve many puzzles that are very different that require BRAINS! Which, after reading other reviews, I am pretty sure other video games have drowned them of their minds. Do not buy this game for your five year old, it is rated 6 and up. Do not buy this game if you want Final Fantasy, Halo, or Super Mario 64. Do not buy this game if you don't like backtracking. I personally like backtracking, as it adds fun to the game. OK. Pros and Cons.
Pros:
-A hilarious game in general.
-Being able to play as Peach and Bowser, who are sometimes more fun than playing as Mario.
-Loads of character development
-Almost endless amounts of sidequests (troubles, shine sprites, star pieces, recipes, tattles, badges, etc.)
-Increase in difficulty on a slow curve, meaning that you don't go from a goomba (2 hp, 1 atk, 0 def) to an Amazee Dazee (20 hp, 20 atk, 2 def [iirc]) but it doesn't go from a poison pokey to a goomba... except in chapter 6... but that seemed to come out of nowhere.
-Enough backtracking to make it challenging, not too many to make me go insane.
- The L and W emblems alone.
Cons:
-Chapter 6's endless backtracking (the one chapter I don't like)
-Cortez. 'nuf said.
-The search for the guy in the second-to-last chapter. That was funny when you're talking to each person, but the fact that Glitzville and Twilight Town don't have shortcuts makes it annoying.
It may be annoying at 3 times, but it's still one of the best games I own. When you play through this game and see all the text, here are some words of advice for you: READ THE TEXT! If you can't read yet, use the pictures. The screen is never covered in text, and there are usually picture examples. When you get a new boot or hammer, and you can't read, there will be pictures of a rotating control stick, and a green button being pressed. So, rotate the control stick, and press the green button, and you'll jump while running around in circles. You never have to use that technique, I just wanted minimal spoilers.
A kiddy game that adults will actually laugh at? Wow.

Back in the Nintendo 64 days, Mario, Nintendo's mascot, was in the uber-successful Mario 64. And pretty much since then Nintendo's been trying to have it's "sequel" or successor. They did that with Mario Sunshine but it probably wasn't what we had in mind. Paper Mario was released then and it had Mario and Co. as 2D characters in 3D backgrounds so Mario was essentially paper-thin literally. We now have the "sequel" to the original and it vastly improves on the original.
Story: One would be pretty stupid to try and think the Mario storylines were deep or original. Princess Toadstool is kidnapped and Mario must save the day by beating Bowser. Well Toadstool has been kidnapped only it's not Bowser's fault. This apparently ties into a treasure map and the mysterious Thousand Year Door.
Graphics: Basically with these kind of games like Wind Waker is that they're beautiful only on a different level. Nowhere near the brightness of Mario Sunshine, the realistic ultra-detailed Resident Evil 4 or the brilliant level design of Metroid Prime but it more than captures the essence of the game.
Sound/Music: Maybe they learned that Mario Sunshine's voice acting was pretty bad so Nintendo isn't even bothering. You still get Mario's "let's-a go!" or "oh yea!" and some other voice samples but nothing full speech. The music isn't immediately catchy but it fits.
Gameplay: All games come down to this. Paper Mario's "gimmick" is that it revolves around, yes, Mario as paper form. In this form he can fold himself into a plane and fly to a far platform, squash himself and launch himself into the air or squeeze through tough spaces.
The battles in Paper Mario unfold on a stage with it's own audience. This probably one of the most unique ideas to come in a long time. Basically battles are like Paper Mario and Superstar Saga with timed presses and dodges and you get a cast of characters to be your battle buddy.
The audience however plays a key part in everything. Let's say you're not showing off your extra damage attacks or not using cool moves then the audience goes down and some members will even through rocks at you. However, if you're the fan favorite they'll throw goodies on stage. There is also stage elements like the stage can collapse or these spiky guys can randomly fall from the ceiling. This isn't a press A constantly RPG, you'll be busy.
One of the big pluses is the dialogue. The dialogue in Paper Mario 64 was downright horrible. Here, it can actually be downright funny. My ever favorite Bowser line: "Crystal Stars you say? They sound like world conquering tools, I want them!". And Luigi doesn't join you on the quest but he has his own quest to tell you about should you go chat to him.
It's sad that games like this get past over for others which is a shame cause this is one of the Gamecube's must-play titles.

I have played the original Paper Mario for Nintendo 64, and I now own Paper Mario:The Thousand Year Door. The verdict? The original was slightly more addicting but the new one's graphics are flawless, adding more enjoyabilty. Though this Paper Mario may seem like nothing from description, I assure you it is actually quite fun.
Story: 4/5
The story is a bit typical.Princess Peach is kidnapped(yes, again.) and now the only one who can save her is Mario. And this time he's....a piece of paper? Odd sounding, I know, but that plays into the special effects of this game.Anyways, to rescue his beloved, Mario must collect the 7 crystal stars, using the thousand-year door to show him locations on his map. Though the story may seem all too typical, it does have a plot that is countinual and can come up with many different characters and events to keep you entertained for quite awhile. You'll make friends who will send you e-mails throughout the game. There are also many evil villians and different schemes going on. It all adds up to a seeminly boring plot equaling an actually very interesting one. Also, you will always have a sidekick. They help you out in battle, sometimes make comments, and can get you out of a sticky situation. You get 7 sidekicks throughout different periods of the game, including the only optional one.
Graphics: 5/5
From overly-detailed backgrounds to decorative costumes, this game has amazing graphics. Everything is in rich color and there is never a dull scene. Though, things may be portrayed in 2-D it doesn't take away from the "Woah." factor of how nice everything looks. I barely even notice anymore. Everything about the graphics are so detailed and textured it can even be distracting, esspecially turning battle scenes.
Audio: 4/5
I admit, the soundtrack in the background may not always be stunning or even beautiful, but it does a nice job of adding to the desired mood or effect. In the Glitzpitz (a wrestling arena) you can hear the cry of anxious fans and when Mario is taken by suprised he isn't afraid to give a shout. There is always different music for every different city or place you go to, making it enjoyable at first though some of their music will probably annoy you after spending some time in one place. They have different battle music for regular enemies and bosess which is a nice touch.
Replay?: 2/5
Most roleplaying games like this aren't very fun to play all over again after it has taken you so long to finally reach your goal. It doesn't feel very worthwhile and the mass dialect will start to annoy you.
Fun: 4/5
The most boring part of this entire game would have to be the very beginning because of its large amount of dialect. I remember how relieved I was when I finally got to control Mario. Besides that, this game is very fun. Some people may say this is too much dialouge but I think it's necessary. Anyway, almost all of it is in between chapters and it takes awhile to get through a chapter (and is always very action filled) so it can be even a little refreshing. I admit, this game can get annoying if you just don't know where to find something or how to do a certain part. I have used an online help for these parts only, which I find works nicely if I'm really stuck. As I said before, being paper comes into the special effects. That is because, if a certain landmark or spot is there, Mario can turn into a form of a paper object. For example: when there is a arrowed platform, walk Mario onto it, press Y, and you'll turn into a paper airplane. That is of course, only available to you after you get cursed.
Overall: 4.5/5
This game is very fun and challenging. It does have a lot of dialouge, but almost all of it is at the beginnnig and inbetween chapters, so you can play the rest of the time. A few times I have been stuck between it being too easy and too hard but it's just about right. This game may seem so simple, but with so many little details and ideas it helps make it more difficult but still manages to keep it enjoyable. With such rich graphics, interesting audio, and long, intricate plot, this game is very wothwhile.

Paper Mario is an awesome game and is particularly challenging at many parts.I've found that in chapter 4 it helps to go to Yahoo search and type in the name of the game. When you see the hits go to the 4th one and click. You will find a walk through somewhere on the site and it will tell you whatever you need to know.
