This is nothing spectacular, they could have used so much more sound files for character voices and the amount of mini-games doesn't really impress, but it's good for a rental when your friends come by on the weekend. Best party game on next-gen systems so far (but that's no contest).
I hope to see a sequel each year, improving every element.
Wow what were they thinking

Yes the mini games were new and somewhat fun but they hurt your hands. however the maps weren't creative at all. They were all square shaped. I was really upset about this game. and also the lack of fun. It should have been good but the maps were horrible. I've played it once and thought wow this game is bad. Then I went back to my old N64 and played Mario party 3. Maybe the next one will be better but until then I would not buy this game.
The best investment I've made for my Gamecube

I have both violent games and just flat out fun games for my system. This game falls into the latter category of flat out fun. I kind of balked at the price in the beginning, but decided to buck up and buy it rather than keep forking out money to rent it every Friday. This game is the perfect excuse to gather the family around the tv and enjoy time together. There is no violence (except for getting stomped on by another player and losing coins LOL), the rules are simple, and the games are very fun and vividly alive with color. The reason it's priced as it is is: there is soooo much to do in this game, it's a wonder they fit it all on that mini-disc! There are different modes of play, including the multi-player party mode and the single player story mode. There are over 70 mini-games you play within bigger game. The competiton is fierce but clean and fun, and there is some strategy involved (but not so involved as to where you need a walkthrough). The game contains different board-style games, each with it's own unique story and characters. The graphics are bright and well-rendered in a cartoonish style that both kids and adults will like. Even when you have to wait your turn, that gives you another reason to chat with the friends and family, have a laugh or two, and figure out your strategy for your next turn. This is probably my favorite game, and I will deifinitely get more out of it than what I paid in for it!!!

Its a great multiplayer game for the very young or very old. The game consists of a board game (like the previous Mario party titles) and lots of mini games. Most of the mini games consist of button mashing or running but they are amusing. It might be a little too easy for the hard core gamer but it will hold your interest. It is much more fun when playing with a group of friends since the solo game can become long and drawn out. One game board can take you 40 minutes to an hour when playing a short game. It is a great game to have in your collection if you have little children that want to join in while you play. The graphics are crisp with bright colors and great sound. Kids will enjoy it for the (usually) simplified gameplay and comical characters.
Repetitive as the others

When I bought Mario Party 4, I thought the whole thing was going to be changed except the characters and what-not. I thoug the graphics were going to be a lot better and a lot funner mini-games. Though some of the mini-games are a lot funner, there are the old classics the are boring because they've all been seen and played in the previous Mario Partys.
The overall graphics are not better but the character grpahics are a lot better.
The gameplay and controls are the same but the music is out of hand a bit. But thats just me.
You should get this if you have a brother or sister that plays with you or something. It's single player is okay.
Time to Party!

This was a great game. I loved all the Mario Party games that came out, as do my friends. It's great for when you have friends over. It's fun, cute, and addicting. I love all the characters like Yoshi and Peach. The graphics are amazing. It's really a step up from the previously-loved Mario Party games.

This game has great mini-games. It also good games in the extra
room. But the story mode is just so boring. It takes too long. Atleast you do not have to buy the mini games. You get after you play them in story mode. The story is one of the worst stories I have heard of.
Very entertaining, but not a "play everyday" game

Mario Party 4 is a worthy addition to the Mario Part series. The graphics are worlds better than the blocky N64 graphics of old. On top of that, there are tons of brand new mini-games, and that is really what the series is about.
First of all, I disliked Mario Party 3. I thought that Nintendo had had too much stuff going on, which dragged the game out for much longer than necessary. Mario Party 4 goes back to a much less crowded design and while there are many things that you can do while on the board, it doesn't seem to derail the game as much. Even so, the game still seems to play a little slowly. You may find yourself tapping your feet as everybody else does their turn and before you get into a mini-game. Even on the shortest game length setting the game can be a little tedious.
The mini-games are really good. There is a good selection of games where speed is needed, where skill is needed, and where cooperation is needed. You will probably not get many repeat mini-games during your game, but even if you do, you likely won't mind. They are pretty darn fun.
This game really is fun, even if you don't have three other humans to play against. Even playing against the computer is fun (if somewhat slow). Different enough to warrant buying even if you have the N64 ones (like I do). Very fun, and a must for anybody seeking a good multiplayer Gamecube game.
