Excellent Gamecube finale with some short shrifts

I purchased the Gamecube version because I already own the console and I'm not willing to spend $400+ on a Wii package deal. Honestly, I can't think of many Wii games I'd want to play after this. I prefer the GC controller, but I've never tried the Wii version controls. I might try the Wii version in a couple of years when I can actually find it reasonably-priced.

The game looks crisp and beautiful on my 46" HDTV LCD. With progressive scan mode enabled, the environments looks sharper and less washed out. It plays smooth and mature; a step up from Wind Waker.

Pros: Gorgeous graphics - use progressive scan if you can - great sound, good controls, incredible atmosphere. Boating limited to a pretty river run, no horridly slow sailing here. The ability to skip many cut scenes is nice too.

Cons: No widescreen on the Gamecube version. The only way to use up of all my 16:9 TV is to squish the image, which looks too weird to do. Thanks a lot, Nintendo!

-Link walks and goes up ladders way too slow! With Action Replay cheat codes, I can make him faster. I shouldn't have to do that. I know it would make the environments seem bigger, but it's frustrating. Maybe I'm used to the Prince of Persia games where he runs around, swift as the wind.

-The environments are too big in certain places, like Lake Hylia. It takes forever to swim across there! The load times between houses are a little annoying. Note to Nintendo: bright white loading screens are not fun on the eyes!

-Midna's voice is irritating, I wish I could turn her off. Too bad there's no cheat code to shut her up like there was for Navi in Ocarina of Time.

-The story is kind of boring. It seems like they were trying harder this time, but I just don't care about it much so far.

There may be a lot of cons there, but this could turn out to topple OoT as my second favorite Zelda game (the first being Link to the Past); I just have to finish it!

Good. But not great.

I've been a fan of Zelda for many years. So far I've played the following.

Zelda I.
Zelday II.
Ocarnia Of Time.
Majoras Mask.
Windwaker
Twilight Princess.

I've LOVED playing every game, aside from this one. This game just doesn't do it for me like previous releases. Each Zelda release is different in its own right. And this release is no different. There are some pretty neat concepts with this game. But suprisingly none of them are all that fun. One thing I loved about the previous releases was the world design. Each area was different and full of life. This release seems more generic. Everything seems dark and drab, even outside the twilight. It's way to much like the real world. There is a vast expanse of a world their, but their are only slight differences between areas, aside from the desert, and snow worlds.

Take Zoras domain for instance. Pretty much the only difference between this and other domains is water. A small pond here, a lake there. Pretty much nothing "Magical" at all. The only fun part was floating down the huge river. The Gorons domain was typical, but not as threatning, and nothing special. The Sacred forest was just a forest. You live in some farmer village, the charicters are very close to real life charicters you might find. Nothing special.

Being a wolf is fairly fun depending on where you are. But gets quite old. One thing I really do not like is the inability to call epona from anywhere you like. You have to pick some weed and hum a little tune with it. So your limited to doing so to wherever the weeds are. You are constantly running around without your steed.

Pretty much the entire game just seems drab. Even saving your game, a tune plays that is remanicent of a Silent Hill soundtrack. Which depresses you all around.

I can't say I'm completely disapointed with this release. But I can't say I'm happy with it either. Ocarnia of Time was revolutionary. Its world was absolutely amazing, and every feature of that game rocked. Majoras mask wasn't quite as good, but still had an interesting world and story plot, great enemies to fight. Honestly I can't really remember one enemy I've fought so far that was memorable in this game. Majoras mask also had great features, like changing into the different domain charicters. Windwaker, which a lot of people hated. And I did to at first, but it was a completely new take, with a world that was huge. Introducing islands to the mix, and I have to say, that was one of my favorite releases as well. You had to save your sister, what's not to fight for there?

In this release your fighting for a group of mostly bratty kids. There really isn't anything special about them. And to rid the world of this twighlight zone/monsters. Once you beat the twilight out of the area it really doesn't look any different then it did before.

I have yet to beat this game, I'm still trudging my way through it But I'm about 2/3rds done with it, and not impressed as far as Zelda releases go.

Can you say OVERRATED?

I'm sorry, but this is NOT the best Zelda of all time, nor is it fit to lick Ocarina Of Time's boots. First and foremost, the game is just NOT FUN. It's ridiculously linear. The towns, for lack of a better word, suck. Wait until you see what passes for Kakariko Village this time around. And the village you begin in will put you to sleep. There's too many boring cutscenes, for another thing. And the twilight segments just blow (again, for lack of a better word). They're extremely tedious. Admittedly, there's still a lot of the game left to play, but I doubt that it improves substantially. I can only hope, though. Why not just replay Ocarina Of Time or Majora's Mask, I wonder?

Different from what you've been expecting, but great. (Spoiler Free)

Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess has gone a long way in the past 20 years and now we have reached it as the Gamecube's last hit. The graphics are what you have all been expecting, but I can't help but say they are a little blurry. The sounds are perfect, except the music chose to use past Zelda tunes and skip the orchestral step. There is no voice acting. Which is for the better. Everything is detailed and the environments are great. New additions to the gameplay are fishing and Epona (a horse you can ride and fight on). The puzzles are geniusly designed and a lot of things were picked up from the previous Zelda games for the better or worse. Probably the best thing about this game is the variety of things you can do. You can fish, solve puzzles, ride Epona, sword fight enemies, so side quests, and use plenty of Link's weapons in many ways.

Fun to watch...and, I assume, to play.

First off: I don't play video games. I just never got into them...I blame it on extremely poor hand-eye coordination and an unusual love of books.

However, my husband is an avid Zelda-phile, and I think it says something about the quality and entertainment value of a video game when I--a non-gamer--ends up unintentionally watching another person play for hours. I could seriously (and have literally) watched him play all day on a weekend. All the Zelda games are fun to watch--and I think the hours that my husband has already spend in front of his newly-opened (and MUCH anticipated due to multiple release delays) Twilight Princess are a testament to how fun this particular release is to play.

Best. Christmas gift. Ever. I scored big wife-coolness-points on this one.

This is an excellent game, but it is pretty hard. The game starts off a bit slow in the beginning, but picks up as you start beating dungeons. The dungeons in this game have way tougher puzzles than in Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker. I had to go online to figure out what to do next on many occasions. The game is similar to Ocarina of Time, as many of the same places in Ocarina of Time are included in this, except they have been completely redone. The graphics are very good too. I did enjoy the cartoonish look of Wind Waker, but this game went back to the realistic look of Ocarina of Time. The cartoonish look of Wind Waker would have felt out of place on this game as this game has a much darker vibe. The controls are fairly similar to Wind Waker. You also get to learn new sword attacks. Enemies in this are a bit smarter than in Wind Waker as well. A big highlight in the game for me were the boss battles. They were quite fun and creative. Sidequests and mini games are also included as well.

Pros:

Graphics/Animation
Sound/Music
Storyline
Boss Battles/Combat
Minigames/Sidequests

Cons:

Dungeon Puzzle Difficulty
Slow Gameplay In The Beginning

When i got this game for Christmas, i was jumping with joy. i fired it right up and played for hours. when i was done, i told my mom how fun and detailed it was. on this game you can do just about anything. when you think of older zelda gamez you can only slice bad guys and do what you're supposed to do. with this zelda you can fish if you want, jump gates with your horse, and many other useless but fun activities.

this is truly a great game for gamecube. this is probably the last good game for gamecube too. If you are interested in buying a gamecube game, this is the all time best. The puzzles in the game are challenging and the enamies are very creative. The effects are great and the combat is AWESOME! Overall, this is the BEST game for Gamecube. This is a great buy!!

My 15 year old son received this game on Christmas morning. We lost the television for a week while he played the game in the livingroom. He has a TV in his room but we all wanted to see the very long awaited game too. The graphics are amazing. He beat the game in a week...almost playing non-stop. We started playing Zelda games when my 28 year old son was in his teens. This game, by far, is the best one yet! We only hope it won't be another 2 years before they release another one!
