For those of you who are SimCity fans, this new version of Sim City is a GREAT improvement.
The game is very hard to play at first, because it is very complex. The graphic is really awesome. The 3D effects are amazing.
There is a night and day time period, before there wasn't such a thing. It makes the game more realistic.
Must try Game of the Year! I give 2 thumbs up for this item! :)
Excellent game if your cpu can handle it.

I had a great time with this game, mind you it's just a sandbox with no missions and nothing I would call multiplayer, but it's still fun even if the secrets to making a perfect city still aren't mine. There are problems though, the game is unstable and there is no patch available as I write this. Once I have a fairly large city of about 50k people, the game starts to have problems with frame rate and locking up.
If they ever patch this thing, I'd say it's probably the best city builder game I've ever seen, but until there is a patch avoid it.
My PC's specs that I played Simcity 4 on are, Athlon xp 2400+, 512MB of pc2700, geforce 4 ti4200 128mb etc...
not quite there yet

i have owned and played the whole sim city series, and to sum up #4 i guess i would say that it is visually pretty, has a wider scope and is somewhat more difficult to get the hang of than the other versions, but on the whole is somewhat underwhelming.
the computer is more creative dealing with landscape, and there are some refinements, such as different levels of roads, which are nice. however, there is also enough that is still unrealistic to make the game just not quite there yet.
on the other hand, for the people who like simple, pretty building games, this version might be too full of petty details. there is a lot to pay attention to. it is still as unrealistic as ever, but way more of a pain in the ... to play. if you have a slow processor, it will take you FOREVER to get anywhere.
in sum i found that i am just as happy with the limitations of simcity 3000 because the game play is more satisfying.
i am in city planning and personally could handle even more city building minutia--but this in between (neither realistic nor super engaging) isn't that great.
It' waaaaay too hard

I've played all of the previous Simcity games, and they were much easier. In this game, making money is practically impossible. You can cut funds just about everywhere, raise taxes very high, but i still only make about a $700 profit, after all that. Ive talked to some other people, they all said the same. They know how to play these games, but Simcity 4 has WAY TOO MANY ways for you to lose money, but not enough to make money. Also, for no reason, half my buildings abandon. Overall, I believe Simcity 3000/Unlimited was much more fun than this game. This game is nothing but good graphics and frustration.
Awesome graphics and music, but gameplay suffers...

Having owned every SimCity game since their inception, I naturally purchased SimCity 4. The graphics are absolutely stellar and the music is - wow - to say the least. The cities can be built much larger than prior versions with the "region" form of gameplay. This also allows you to build several cities in one huge geographic region.
Now for the shortfalls - as a result, the game is incredibly more complex than prior versions. Your city grows at a painstakingly slow pace. You now have to factor in joblessness, etc to the life of your residents - on a granular detail. Instead of having one police station, there are "small" and "large" stations. You are required to pay for every reward you receive, and your funds will build very slowly. When you try to zone land, the game tries to add in streets for you, whether you want to place a street or not. Lastly, I have not heard of an unlimited spend cheat code for this one yet, which was cool with the other versions.
Finally, The box says "recommended 1GHZ or faster, 256mb or more RAM and 32mb Direct3D video card". If you want to have a "good" experience with this game, DOUBLE all of the above.
If you want to see the next evolution in SimCity, check it out - but make sure your system has the horsepower to back it.
Almost Perfect...

This is a real good game. But if you put it up with SC3KU (Sim City 3000 Unlimeted), SC3KU just might win. The really bad things about this is it is WAY to hard (Example: H2 Power Plants $100,000) and the cheats are VERY lame. The best one gives you $1000. The new region design is perfect. Other then the 2 problams I mentioned. It's GREAT!!!
a little slow, as cities get bigger

I love the game. Every version has been a vast improvement. Region play is a huge plus for me. Not enough region terrain to choose from. Downloads of new terrain are supposedly available, but I cannot find the link to download on the site, or get a sufficient answer to the problem.

SimCity 4 continues with what has been good in the SimCity line, and has gone to the next level in many areas to make playing the game an even more enriching and in-depth experience. Graphics and animations are top-notch and up to date to the current standards, so that many computer systems will need to be upgraded just to support minimum requirements. The benefits are in a very beautiful look, much more detail, and the ability to zoom in to the size of a few squares.
Also new is region play. Each game is no longer limited to one city, but a region of dozens of cities built by the player. The interactions between the cities are more important than ever. Sims will be able to move from one to the other, or even commute between cities, as long as there are connections. Resources can also be sold and bought between cities, as in SimCity 3000.
Being able to live in your city from the perspective of the sims themselves is also new to the game. Your sims will have a job, a home, and have to meet the needs that all the other sims share. Listening to their concerns and compliments gives you an inside perspective that can help manage your sims.

This game wasn't good at all! Maybe if it wouldn't crash so much I would have loved it. Did they put it out too early or something? This game truly isn't good. OR fun. Okay, I play the regular sims like HD(hotdate) and SS(superstar) and so on, and maybe I'm just comparing them. But I didn't like Simcity 4. I thought it would be great. And my mom and dad wasted $50.00 on this stupid game! And we couldn't get a refund! What a waste of money. I wouldn't risk buying this game! It kept freezing!! And I got bored with it right when we just got the game. So, you'll get bored easily. Very easily. boring!
