Hi
I did the free trial for a couple of days..the interface is a nightmare..pretty bad graphics for a newer mmorpg.....tedious game play...I'll pass on this and go back to DOAC.
Playing solo is a joke

I thought this game was going to be fun, but it was not. It was fun in the beginning when you could actually gain level kinda fast by yourself. Soon though, you realize that gaining fast levels by yourself is an impossibility. Instead you need to get in a group and just sit around while high levels kill everything for you. Hurray what a blast. Don't buy this game.
Greatly improved by newest patches

When I started this game, it was virtually unplayable. Now it is one of the best online games I've ever seen.
Shadowbane really has pushed the envelope into the realm i've bee waiting for all these years, a true, player-run, non-scripted environment. My group has just broken off from our main guild and started to form our own city. Let me tell you, city-building is incredibly fun and rewarding.
Yes, it can be frustrating to get constantly PKed during that time between Newbie Island and Level 50+, but the key there is to join a guild. Often guild leaders recruit from newbie groups while they are leveling their alternate characters.
Random bits:
Scorn is typically the PK/PvP server. Many dispute that since the rise of the anti-Pker nation (Reborn), but I believe it is still a great, active server on many fronts.
Mourning has the reputation as the Roleplayer server, where there are actually Elves only and Dwaves only guilds and the like.
As for the other servers, I haven't played there, so I couldn't tell you. I highly suggest going to [the website] and checking out the different server forums to help you decide where to go. Just remember, on forums, complainers speak more often than happy people.
starts out good and then...

pros:
quick leveling system
customizable class system
great pvp system which emphasizes land control
nice interface
cons:
the third person camera was poorly implemented
bland world. mostly flat, some trees, a town here and there
still somewhat buggy (1 year after release)
overall this is a decent game. like most other mmgs, you will quickly get bored alone. the most fun i had was getting into a guild, who PLed the heck out of me, and taking part in PVP. that is pretty much what the game revolves around.
HO HUM -- You'll play it for 2 weeks

Beta tested this from 25 Feb until about 2 weeks later..my god what a boring game. Graphics are old and dated. Grouping is hard to do because tracts of land look so similar. Then be prepared to group and guild with a bunch of teens who's maturity and social skills are right up there with the average 13 year old. Not a fun experience. But don't take my word for it -- buy this stinker yourself and kick yourself for weeks afterward for dropping [so much money]:) Thank God I tried it beforehand.
Well did I call it right? For 5 dollars, you should know how "great" this game is :) --- update 6 Jan 2004

First don't know how somoene can give an honest review of a game thats yet to be released. But Wolfpack studios is striving to make an on-line game thats more than just mob or player bashing, uber loot camping or reliance on just player to player interaction to drive a game.
(which is just what EQ, Anarchy, DAoC and all the other so called great online games are realy all about)
If they pull off the basics of the games foundations, who cares if its running state of the art graphics or sound or not. Point is on a game is balanced playability. Looks can be adjusted over time, not core game system (all thats played online games know how much tweaking and nurfing mechanical systems of existing online games has ruined those games)
So I give SB a 5 simpley because they arn't going to fit the online game mold Sony and Microsoft set.
BTW there has been a post by one of the wolfpack team that they are striving to meet the feb release. I for one would rather have a game takes 6 years to make and it works then a game developed in a year thats [garbage] because a publisher demanded a release date.

I have been waiting for a game like this since I first played D&D way back in 1975, one that comes close to what I have always imagined such a fantasy world would be. This game is the closest to that ideal. Shadowbane has similar characteristics when compared to others of its ilk (DOAC, Everquest..)but goes much futher then they in areas of player economy and Guild vs. Guild warfare (nation building..). I am also very impressed with the vast number of variations available to me when I start and develope my character....
This game is worth your time

It finally released and i must say it is very good. It is vastly different than any game out there and the graphics are much better than some would make them out to be. There are many classes and disciplines and an attribute system so it is near imp0ssible to run into a twin. This is a good game but if you don't like pvp then it won't be the game for you.

No game can compare to the depth of character developement, city developement, and the economy. Check it out at [the website.]
This is one of the few.
Excellent Game!

I have played several MOGs over the past 4-5 years and I have to say Shadowbane is probably the best I have seen so far. This game stresses group play more than any other game I have played in the past. In other MOGs at times it could be difficult to find a group to play in, not so with Shadowbane. This game is designed from the ground up as a group effort game. Want to solo your character? It is possible but for each MOB killed you get the same experience for it if killed solo or in a group. Experience points do not divide between group members, all members of the group get full experience for the kill. It is much easier to level your toon (character avatar in the game) in a group than solo. The game is still going through its buggy early stages but this will change with time. All games start this way and improve. No amount of beta testing can reveal all problems associated with a new game. Overall I give this game 5 Stars! WOOT to UBI!
