A Game you can't even log into

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 4 / 5

As I write this I'd like to say yet again that I cannot log into this game. All other problems, and Shadowbane has a lot of them, pale in comparison to this. I have owned and played Shadowbane for over a month now, and during that month this game has been plagued by dozens of errors that cause my computer to crash, cause lag when there are even a few characters in the same vicinity, etc... However, by far and away the worst thing about this game is the monthly subscription fee you will waste because of the constant inoperability of the login servers. For those of you new to online gaming this means you cannot even play the game at all!
Do not buy this game. Buy a game you can actually log into and then hopefully have some fun playing while you do. I am looking forward to Star Wars Galaxies and hoping that unlike Shadowbane, it will be a game worth playing. All Shadowbane has been is a disappointment and a waste of money....it will also be my last purchase of any product by Wolfpack or UBI.

not the best

Besides the fact that it costs money to play, I experienced several problems. First, the grueling requirements it needs to run limits many gamers to games that require less. I have a computer that met all the requirements and then some, plus I have broadband internet, and I still experienced choppy play and was booted out of the game several times. The game itself is a good idea and is fun when it works, but it isn't worth buying if you don't have time to wait around for the game to work.

Not worth it if it was free

Don't know who paid people to come here and say this is a good game. Lag, lockups, crashing servers, rollbacks of lvls and loss of equipment and gold, and MORE, that I probably shouldn't say. I have been playing games since before pong and if anyone can call this even close to release ready, they are being paid. Please just read the game forums and see what the players are saying. Yes, a large % of the people like it and have ONLY a FEW problems, but do you want to buy and pay monthly for a CHANCE that you can play or that it will get better? Many better games already here to buy.

Sick of carebear games?

I have never been big on EQ, because I think it sucked. DAoC was okay but I never liked the PvP and got bored. AC1 was the best MMORPG I have played so far, because the PvP on the Darktide server was awesome (I don't care about graphics, just lag my computer and irrelevant for fun). Shadowbane is the best PvP MMORPG I have ever played, I bumped it to number 1. It is not one of those carebear games where you run around and pick things up that will only help you run around and pick more things up, this is competition. Yes, good ol' competition. Castles, cities, PvP combat, what could be better?(the question was rhetorical)

Great concepts but very poor support

Shadowbane is a great concept in MMPORG. Player created cities and economy was a great idea. Races and professions were very interesting and diverse. The idea of warring nations of players seemed like it would be interesting and entertaining.

However, getting an account to play the game seemed to be a huge hassle. If your credit card doesn't validate when applying, the typical solution is try a new one. Not everyone carries 2 or more credit cards, as in my case. Calling thier customer support doesn't yield any support. It's merely a staffmember who recycles the information you would have already read from the online FAQ or Support pages. They have NO control or capability to monitor or modify customer accounts. Even if your card is good and you've contacted you bank to verify your information, Customer Support will not confrim with your bank. Purely a bugged-electronic system with a person sitting at a terminal recycling the online information you can or would have found for yourself before calling.

I managed to get my account started after too many calls between "Customer Support" and my bank, but after the first free month recieved the same error for the initial billing I had when starting the account.

Personally, I felt the game has great opportunity, but very poor support. 3 stars is being generous.

Can you say absolute failure

Initial release of game is a complete failure. Nobody can even log-into the game or sign up an account. Regretfully I bought the game because they have been in beta for so long I figured it would be ready, but lol, no such luck. Remember how poor the initial stages of Anarchy Online were; well, this is just as bad. UBI-Soft will lose their shorts over this one.

Registration is impossible

The game might be nice. If you could actually play it. The problem is, in order to play, you have to create an account and subscription through Ubi Soft. The process for doing so is buggy, unstable, and - worst of all - unsupported. You can only get support for Shadowbane through the Shadowbane support site, but you can't get into that site until you have an active subscription. So if you're having problems getting that subscription, you're SOL.

Yeah Shadowbane sounds cool, but until Ubi Soft gets their act together, go play something that won't make you pull your hair out before you even create a character. It's just not worth the aggravation.

From a Newbie at these mmorg games

I kept hearing about the online playing games awhile back ago and had recently got a cable modem so i decided to buy a couple and try them out. I bought Ultima and shadowbane when it first came out. I ended up staying with shadowbane because it seemed to take more thought and detail into what you have to do. Ultima seemd more "kid-like" (i dont mean to offend anyone). I didnt seem to run into hardly any problems as most people for some reason. I also dont have any friends that play it but found it very easy to find help from others and had no trouble joining guilds and getting power leveled by them. Of course there were jerks on there but plenty of those in the real world also.Over all it was and addictive game that i got fully engulfed in and highly recopmmend it. I never did the trial but it doesnt do it justice.

Should be "by U-be-down"

This game has very bad performance, don't be fooled by hype. The lag in-game is horrible (unless you play during the off-peak morning hours) even on a cable/dsl line. The servers and down 20% of the time and the login server is always hit or miss. The game would be interesting to play - but it's unfortunate that their game servers are plagued instability and latency - you never get to play. I would recommend getting DAOC, and for Mac users - just bite the big one and wait for World of Warcraft.

Personally Disappointed

I was greatly disappointed by this game. I found the graphics of this game very poor. I understand that graphics are not the main point of this game, but they are still WAY behind other games in its class. Then there is the point and click movement. I find it an extremely clumsy and outdates method of movement for a MMO game. Next the camera does not really lock behind your character, but can be moved by taking the mouse to the screen edges (cause one to lose perspective of where you are going). These problems made the game to disinteresting for me to play to a high enough level to try the PvP that is suppose to be this games calling.
